12 à 18 L'apôtre exhorte les Philippiens à travailler à leur salut, à briller comme des flambeaux, à être ainsi sa récompense et sa joie.

Nous devons nous appliquer à utiliser avec persévérance, tous les moyens qui conduisent à « faire fructifier » notre salut, tant que la vie nous est accordée ici-bas. Œuvrons fidèlement, de peur que malgré les bénédictions célestes reçues, nous entretenions une certaine oisiveté.

« Travaillons à notre salut » car Dieu agit en nous. Ceci nous encourage à faire le maximum en la matière, parce que notre labeur ne sera pas vain : nous dépendons toujours de la Grâce divine. L'œuvre de la Grâce de Dieu consiste à nous donner la vie spirituelle et à motiver nos efforts. La Volonté de Dieu à notre égard est, à l’origine, Son œuvre excellente en nous.

Accomplissez votre devoir avec bonne volonté, sans le critiquer éventuellement. Soyez assidu quant à l’exécution de votre travail, qu’il ne soit pas pour vous une occasion de chute. Dans un esprit de paix, ne donnez aucune possibilité aux autres de vous chercher querelle.

Les enfants de Dieu doivent être différents des impies. Plus ces derniers sont pervers, plus nous devons chercher à garder notre intégrité professionnelle. La doctrine et l'exemple des véritables croyants finiront par persuader ceux qui nous entourent, ils dirigeront leur chemin vers Christ et la sainteté, tout comme un phare prévient les marins, pour qu'ils évitent les rochers, dirigeant ainsi leur course vers le port.

Essayons de « briller ainsi ! » L'Évangile est la Parole de vie, Il nous fait connaître la vie éternelle au travers de Jésus-Christ.

Une course sportive est synonyme de plein engagement et de vigueur, d'avance continuelle ; le travail exige de la constance, et une ferme application. Dieu désire avant tout que les croyants soient nombreux à se réjouir ; ceux qui ont la chance de bénéficier du service de fidèles serviteurs de Dieu ont de grandes raisons de se réjouir avec eux !
