Philippiens 3.12

Non que j'aie déjà atteint [le but], ou que je sois déjà rendu accompli : mais je poursuis [ce but] pour tâcher d'y parvenir, c'est pourquoi aussi j'ai été pris par Jésus-Christ.

L’apôtre ne dit pas dans ce texte qu’il a déjà remporté « le prix » (parvenu à son but spirituel), ni qu’il ressemble parfaitement à son Sauveur. Il oublie tout ce qui est derrière lui, afin de ne pas se contenter des œuvres qu’il a déjà effectuées, ni des grâces dont il a pu bénéficier.

Paul portait son regard en avant, « courant vers le but », montrant une grande vigilance à essayer de devenir de plus en plus semblable à Christ.

Celui qui s’élance dans une course ne doit jamais s'arrêter avant la fin, il doit être aussi rapide que possible ; ceux qui placent leur espérance dans le « céleste », doivent concentrer leur énergie pour atteindre ce but, animés de saints désirs, et d’une grande constance dans leurs efforts.

La vie éternelle est un don de Dieu, par l’intermédiaire de Jésus-Christ ; Le Seigneur nous tend Sa main pour nous aider à l’obtenir, car Il est le seul qui puisse nous la procurer. Le ciel ne pourra constituer notre demeure que si Christ est notre « Chemin ». Les véritables croyants, dans la poursuite de cette assurance spirituelle et de la Gloire de Christ, chercheront vraiment à essayer de ressembler à Ses souffrances et à Sa mort, en mourant au péché et en crucifiant la chair, avec ses vaines affections et ses convoitises.

Dans cette « course » spirituelle, les chrétiens véritables disposent d’une force particulière, mais tous sont capables de discerner le « but », même partiellement. Pour les croyants, Christ est tout en tout, ils dirigent les désirs de leur cœur vers un autre monde, le spirituel. S'ils disposent tous d’aptitudes particulières, et ne sont pas toujours du même avis, quant à certains détails, ils ne doivent pas se juger mutuellement, puisqu'ils se réunissent ici-bas au Nom de Christ, espérant Le rencontrer bientôt face à face dans le ciel !

Que les enfants de Dieu soient d’accord sur tous les grands sujets spirituels, mais qu'ils attendent davantage de lumière céleste pour les points secondaires sur lesquels ils pourraient éventuellement ne pas être en harmonie.

Les ennemis de la croix de Christ n'ont à l'esprit que leurs appétits sensuels. L’iniquité est la honte du pécheur, surtout quand il s'en glorifie. Le chemin de ceux qui ne pensent qu’aux attraits de ce monde, peut paraître agréable, mais la mort et l'enfer en sont la fin ! Si nous choisissons d’emprunter leur chemin, nous partagerons leur fin... La vie d'un chrétien est dans le ciel, où se trouvent son Chef et sa « maison », où il espère se rendre bientôt ; il place ses affections dans ce qui est céleste, et l’état de son cœur guidera son comportement.

Une certaine gloire est réservée pour les corps des saints, dans laquelle ils paraîtront, lors de la résurrection. Leur corps sera alors glorieux ; ils seront non seulement ramenés à la vie, mais ils disposeront d’un immense privilège céleste. De quel pouvoir le Seigneur dispose t-il pour opérer un tel changement !

Puissions-nous être prêts, lors de la venue de notre Juge ! Notre corps périssable sera alors transformé, par Son pouvoir Tout-puissant ; appliquons-nous chaque jour à ressembler à Christ, dans Sa sainteté, afin qu’Il nous délivre de nos ennemis ; employons-nous, corps et âme, à être des instruments de justice, à Son service !
