Philippiens 3.21

ὃς μετασχηματίσει τὸ σῶμα τῆς ταπεινώσεως ἡμῶν σύμμορφον τῷ σώματι τῆς δόξης αὐτοῦ κατὰ τὴν ἐνέργειαν τοῦ δύνασθαι αὐτὸν καὶ ὑποτάξαι αὑτῷ τὰ πάντα.

Telle est la rédemption complète du racheté de Christ. Aucun chrétien ne peut jouir d'une paix parfaite tant que la dernière trace du péché n'aura pas été anéantie en lui, et que tout son être, l'esprit, l'âme et le corps, n'aura pas été rendu à sa destination éternelle, la perfection. De là, son état d'attente ; il attend le Sauveur, qui achèvera son œuvre en lui.

Paul ne nomme ici que la transformation du corps, parce que ce sera là, par la résurrection et la glorification, le dernier acte de l'œuvre de Christ. Mais il laisse entrevoir un contraste immense entre le corps actuel et celui de la gloire. Il nomme l'un le corps de notre humiliation, ce que nos versions rendent par "ce corps vil ;" corps humilié en effet, puisqu'il sert d'instrument au péché, qu'il est l'esclave de mille besoins matériels, des infirmités, de la mort, et qu'il doit enfin tomber en poudre et servir de pâture aux vers.

Paul désigne l'autre par ce seul mot qui dit plus que toutes les descriptions : être rendu conforme au corps de la gloire de Christ, ou à son corps glorifié. (Comparer, sur ce contraste du corps humilié et du corps glorifié, 1Corinthiens 15.42-44)

Ainsi, "nous lui serons semblables" en toutes choses, (1Jean 3.2) pourvu que nous lui soyons devenus semblables spirituellement par notre communion avec lui. Quelle destination !

- Ici, comme partout, l'Ecriture nous fait voir dans la résurrection un acte de la puissance divine de Christ lui-même. (Grec : "selon l'énergie de pouvoir même s'assujettir toutes choses," y compris la mort.) Nous avons appliqué ce passage à la résurrection proprement dite, parce que telle est évidemment la pensée générale. D'autres, prenant ce mot de transformation dans un sens limité, pensent que Paul veut parler, ici comme ailleurs, (1Corinthiens 15.52,53 ; 1Thessaloniciens 4.15-17) de ceux qui vivront lors de la venue du Seigneur, et qui, au lieu de ressusciter, seront changés. Si cette interprétation ne doit pas être exclue, elle est loin d'exprimer toute la pensée de l'apôtre.
