L'apôtre ayant employé ce terme : ma justice, l'explique par celuici : celle qui me vient de la loi, celle qu'il s'efforçait d'acquérir par l'observation de la loi.

Cette justice ne saurait être le fondement de son espérance pour l'avenir. Il connaît une autre justice dont il a été mis en possession par la foi en Christ, la justice qui vient de Dieu sur la base de la foi.

Telle est la traduction littérale de ces mots dont le sens est suffisamment expliqué par les autres épîtres de notre apôtre. (Voir en particulier Romains 3.21-28, notes ; Romains 10.3)

Mais pour s'approprier cette justice, il faut être trouvé en Christ, dans une communion vivante avec lui par le lien intime de la foi, communion décrite en traits profonds dans les paroles qui suivent.
