    • Exode 19

      1 Les Israélites quittent Refidim. Le troisième mois après leur sortie d’Égypte, le premier jour du mois, ils arrivent au désert du Sinaï. Et ils installent leur camp dans le désert, en face de la montagne.
      3 Moïse monte pour rencontrer Dieu. Le SEIGNEUR appelle Moïse du haut de la montagne et il lui dit : « Voici ce que tu diras aux gens de la famille de Jacob, les Israélites :
      4 “Vous avez vu vous-mêmes ce que j’ai fait aux Égyptiens. Vous avez vu comment je vous ai amenés ici, auprès de moi. Je vous ai portés comme sur les ailes d’un aigle.
      5 Et maintenant, si vous écoutez mes paroles et si vous respectez mon alliance avec vous, vous serez pour moi comme un trésor parmi tous les peuples. Oui, le monde entier est à moi,
      6 mais vous serez pour moi un royaume de prêtres, un peuple choisi pour me servir.” Voilà ce que tu diras aux Israélites. »
      7 Moïse revient au camp. Il réunit les anciens d’Israël. Et il leur dit tout ce que le SEIGNEUR lui a commandé.
      8 Tout le peuple répond d’un seul cœur : « Nous ferons tout ce que le SEIGNEUR a dit. » Moïse rapporte la réponse du peuple au SEIGNEUR.
      9 Le SEIGNEUR dit à Moïse : « Je vais venir auprès de toi, dans un épais nuage de fumée. Alors le peuple pourra entendre quand je parlerai avec toi. Et il aura confiance en toi aussi pour toujours. » Moïse répète au SEIGNEUR la réponse du peuple.
      10 Le SEIGNEUR dit encore à Moïse : « Retourne vers le peuple. Dis-leur de se rendre purs aujourd’hui et demain, et de laver leurs vêtements.
      11 Il faut qu’ils soient prêts le troisième jour. Oui, ce jour-là, je descendrai sur le mont Sinaï, devant tout le peuple.
      12 Fixe des limites autour de la montagne et dis-leur : “Ne montez pas sur la montagne et ne vous en approchez pas !” Si quelqu’un s’approche de la montagne, il faut le tuer.
      13 Que ce soit une personne ou un animal, on ne le laissera pas vivre. Personne ne touchera le coupable, mais on le tuera en lui jetant des pierres, ou en lui lançant des flèches. Quelques-uns monteront sur la montagne seulement quand la corne de bélier sonnera. »
      14 Moïse descend de la montagne vers le peuple. Il leur demande de se rendre purs et de laver leurs vêtements.
      15 Puis il leur dit : « Soyez prêts pour après-demain. Ne vous unissez pas à vos femmes. »
      16 Le troisième jour, tôt le matin, il y a sur la montagne des coups de tonnerre, des éclairs et un épais nuage de fumée. On entend le son très puissant d’une corne de bélier. Dans le camp, tout le peuple tremble de peur.
      17 Moïse fait sortir les Israélites du camp pour rencontrer Dieu. Ils s’arrêtent au bas de la montagne.
      18 Le SEIGNEUR descend sur la montagne du Sinaï au milieu du feu. Alors la montagne est couverte de fumée. Partout la fumée monte comme celle d’un grand feu. Toute la montagne tremble très fort.
      19 Le son de la corne est de plus en plus fort. Quand Moïse parle, Dieu lui répond dans le tonnerre.
      20 Le SEIGNEUR descend sur le mont Sinaï, au sommet de la montagne. De cet endroit, il appelle Moïse, et Moïse monte là-haut.
      21 Le SEIGNEUR dit à Moïse : « Descends et donne cet avertissement au peuple : “Ne vous précipitez pas pour me voir. Sinon, beaucoup d’entre vous mourront.
      22 Même les prêtres, qui peuvent pourtant s’approcher de moi, doivent se rendre purs. Sinon, j’agirai contre eux, moi le SEIGNEUR.” »
      23 Moïse répond : « Le peuple ne peut pas monter sur le mont Sinaï. En effet, toi, tu nous as avertis en disant : “Fixe des limites autour de la montagne, ainsi tu la rendras sacrée !” »
      24 Le SEIGNEUR lui dit : « Descends, puis tu remonteras avec Aaron. Les prêtres et le peuple ne doivent pas se précipiter pour monter vers moi. Sinon, j’agirai contre eux. »
      25 Moïse redescend donc vers le peuple et il leur parle.

      Exode 20

      1 Alors Dieu dit au peuple d’Israël :
      2 « Je suis le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu. C’est moi qui t’ai fait sortir d’Égypte, où tu étais esclave.
      3 « Tu ne dois pas avoir d’autres dieux que moi.
      4 « Ne fabrique pas de statues de dieux. Ne représente pas ce qu’il y a là-haut dans le ciel, en bas sur la terre, ou dans l’eau sous la terre.
      5 Ne te mets pas à genoux devant ces dieux, ne les adore pas. En effet, le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu, c’est moi, et je suis un Dieu exigeant. Je punis la faute de ceux qui me détestent. Je punis aussi leurs enfants, jusqu’à la troisième ou la quatrième génération.
      6 Mais je montre ma bonté pendant des milliers de générations à ceux qui m’aiment et qui obéissent à mes commandements.
      7 « Ne te sers pas de mon nom n’importe comment. Moi, le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, je déclare coupable celui qui se sert de mon nom n’importe comment.
      8 « N’oublie pas de me réserver le jour du sabbat.
      9 Pendant six jours, travaille pour faire tout ce que tu as à faire.
      10 Mais le septième jour, c’est le sabbat qui m’est réservé, à moi, le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu. Personne ne doit travailler ce jour-là, ni toi, ni ton fils, ni ta fille, ni ton serviteur, ni ta servante, ni tes animaux, ni l’étranger installé dans ton pays.
      11 En six jours, j’ai créé le ciel, la terre, la mer et tout ce qu’ils contiennent. Mais le septième jour, je me suis reposé. C’est pourquoi, moi, le SEIGNEUR, j’ai béni le jour du sabbat : ce jour est réservé pour moi.
      12 « Respecte ton père et ta mère. Ainsi tu vivras longtemps dans le pays que moi, le SEIGNEUR, je te donne.
      13 « Ne tue personne.
      14 « Ne commets pas d’adultère.
      15 « Ne vole pas.
      16 « Ne témoigne pas faussement contre ton prochain.
      17 « Ne désire pas pour toi la maison de ton prochain. N’aie pas envie de prendre sa femme, ni son esclave, ni sa servante, ni son bœuf, ni son âne. Ne désire rien de ce qui est à lui. »
      18 Tous les Israélites entendent les coups de tonnerre et le son de la corne de bélier. Tous voient les éclairs et la montagne pleine de fumée. Ils tremblent de peur et ils restent loin.
      19 Ils disent à Moïse : « Parle-nous, toi, et nous t’écouterons. Mais nous ne voulons pas que Dieu nous parle directement. Sinon, nous allons mourir. »
      20 Moïse dit au peuple : « N’ayez pas peur ! Dieu est venu voir si vous alliez lui obéir. Il veut que vous le respectiez et que vous ne commettiez pas de péché. »
      21 Le peuple reste donc loin. Mais Moïse s’approche du nuage sombre où Dieu est présent.
      22 Le SEIGNEUR dit à Moïse : « Voici ce que tu diras aux Israélites : “Vous l’avez vu, je vous ai parlé du haut du ciel.
      23 Vous ne fabriquerez pas des statues de dieux en argent ou en or pour les honorer à côté de moi.
      24 Vous fabriquerez pour moi un autel en terre. Là, vous m’offrirez vos moutons, vos chèvres et vos bœufs comme sacrifices complets et comme sacrifices de communion. Et moi, je viendrai vous bénir, partout où je montrerai ma présence.
      25 Mais si vous me fabriquez un autel en pierres, ne le faites pas en pierres taillées. En effet, si vous taillez les pierres avec un outil, vous ne pouvez plus les utiliser pour moi.
      26 Vous ne fabriquerez pas un autel sur lequel on monte par des marches. Ainsi, personne ne verra que le prêtre est nu sous son pagne.” »

      Exode 21

      1 Le Seigneur dit encore : « Voici les règles que tu présenteras aux Israélites :
      2 Quand vous achèterez un esclave hébreu, il servira pendant six ans. La septième année, il pourra s’en aller librement et il ne devra rien à personne.
      3 S’il était seul en venant à votre service, il partira seul. S’il était marié, sa femme partira avec lui.
      4 Si son maître lui a donné une femme, et si l’esclave a eu des garçons ou des filles avec elle, la femme et ses enfants appartiennent au maître. L’homme partira tout seul.
      5 Mais l’esclave déclarera peut-être : “J’aime mon maître, ma femme et mes enfants, je ne veux pas les quitter pour être libre.”
      6 Dans ce cas, son maître se présente devant Dieu. Il place l’homme près de la porte de la maison ou près du montant de la porte. Là, il lui perce l’oreille avec un outil pointu. Alors l’homme sera son esclave pour toujours.
      7 « Si un homme vend sa fille comme esclave, celle-ci ne retrouvera pas sa liberté dans les mêmes conditions que les hommes qui sont esclaves.
      8 Voici ce qui peut arriver : son maître l’a achetée pour en faire une de ses femmes, mais ensuite, elle ne lui plaît plus. Le maître doit alors laisser quelqu’un la racheter. Il n’a pas le droit de la vendre à un peuple étranger : ce serait la trahir.
      9 Ou encore le maître l’a achetée pour la donner à son fils. Dans ce cas, il suivra la coutume qui règle le mariage des filles.
      10 Le maître peut aussi prendre une autre esclave pour femme. Dans ce cas, il continuera comme avant à donner à sa première femme la nourriture et les vêtements, et à s’unir à elle.
      11 S’il ne fait pas pour elle ces trois choses, elle peut reprendre sa liberté gratuitement, sans verser d’argent. »
      12 Le Seigneur dit encore à Moïse : « Celui qui frappe une personne et qui la tue, il faut le faire mourir.
      13 Mais supposons ceci : Cet homme n’avait pas l’intention de tuer. C’est moi, le Seigneur, qui lui en ai donné l’occasion. Dans ce cas, je te montrerai un endroit où celui qui a causé l’accident pourra se réfugier.
      14 Voici ce qui peut encore arriver : Quelqu’un attaque une personne par surprise pour la tuer. Même si cet homme s’est réfugié auprès de mon autel, vous l’arrêterez pour le faire mourir.
      15 « Si une personne frappe son père ou sa mère, il faut la faire mourir.
      16 « Voici un autre cas : Un homme enlève une personne. Il la vend ou bien il la garde chez lui. Il faut faire mourir cet homme-là.
      17 « Celui qui maudit son père ou sa mère, il faut aussi le faire mourir. »
      18 « Supposons ceci : Pendant une dispute, un homme frappe quelqu’un avec son poing, ou bien il lui jette une pierre. L’autre homme ne meurt pas, mais il doit rester couché.
      19 S’il peut se lever et marcher dehors en s’appuyant sur un bâton, l’homme qui l’a frappé ne sera pas condamné. Il devra seulement payer pour cet arrêt de travail et le faire soigner jusqu’à sa guérison.
      20 « Un homme frappe son esclave, homme ou femme, à coups de bâton, et la personne meurt. Cet homme-là doit être puni.
      21 Mais si la personne vit encore un jour ou deux et meurt ensuite, l’homme ne sera pas puni. En effet, la personne lui appartenait.
      22 « Pendant une dispute, des hommes se battent. Ils heurtent une femme enceinte, et alors la femme accouche trop tôt. S’il ne lui arrive rien de grave, le coupable doit payer la somme que le mari demande après discussions.
      23 Mais s’il arrive quelque chose de grave à la femme, le coupable sera puni : s’il a pris une vie, sa vie sera prise,
      24 s’il a crevé un œil, son œil sera crevé, s’il a cassé une dent, il aura une dent cassée, s’il a blessé quelqu’un à la main ou au pied, il recevra une blessure à la main ou au pied,
      25 pour une brûlure il recevra une brûlure, pour une plaie une plaie, pour un coup un coup.
      26 « Un homme frappe son esclave, homme ou femme, et il lui crève un œil. Il lui rendra sa liberté, en échange de son œil.
      27 S’il lui casse une dent, il rendra la liberté à son esclave, homme ou femme, en échange de sa dent.
      28 « Un taureau blesse un homme ou une femme à coups de cornes, et la personne meurt. On doit tuer l’animal en lui jetant des pierres et on ne mangera pas sa viande. Par contre, on ne déclarera pas le propriétaire coupable.
      29 Mais le taureau avait peut-être l’habitude de donner des coups de cornes. Le propriétaire le savait et il n’a pas surveillé le taureau. Dans ce cas, si cet animal tue quelqu’un, on le tuera en lui jetant des pierres, et on fera mourir aussi son propriétaire.
      30 Si on exige du propriétaire une rançon pour sauver sa vie, il devra donner tout ce qu’on lui demandera.
      31 Si le taureau tue un garçon ou une fille à coups de cornes, on suivra les mêmes règles.
      32 Si le taureau tue un esclave, homme ou femme, le propriétaire de l’animal devra donner trente pièces d’argent à son maître. Et on tuera le taureau en lui jetant des pierres.
      33 « Un homme laisse une citerne ouverte, ou encore il creuse une citerne sans la couvrir. Un bœuf ou un âne tombe dedans.
      34 Le propriétaire de la citerne doit payer en échange une somme d’argent au propriétaire de l’animal. Mais l’animal mort sera pour celui qui a payé.
      35 « Le taureau d’un homme blesse le taureau de quelqu’un d’autre, et cet animal meurt. Les deux propriétaires vendront le taureau vivant et ils se partageront l’argent. Ils partageront aussi l’animal mort.
      36 Mais tout le monde savait peut-être que ce taureau donnait des coups de cornes. Pourtant son propriétaire ne l’a pas surveillé. Dans ce cas, il devra remplacer l’animal mort par un taureau vivant. Mais l’animal mort sera pour lui. »
      37 « Supposons ceci : Un homme vole un taureau, un mouton ou une chèvre. Il tue l’animal et il le vend. Cet homme-là devra donner cinq bœufs pour payer le bœuf volé et quatre moutons ou quatre chèvres, pour payer le mouton ou la chèvre volé. »

      Exode 22

      1 « Quelqu’un trouve un homme, pendant la nuit, en train de trouer un mur pour voler. Il le frappe, et le voleur meurt. Dans ce cas, ce n’est pas un meurtre.
      2 Mais s’il a tué le voleur pendant le jour, il s’agit bien d’un meurtre. Un voleur doit payer pour ce qu’il a pris. S’il ne peut pas, il sera vendu comme esclave.
      3 « Mais on retrouve peut-être vivant le bœuf, l’âne, le mouton ou la chèvre volé dans les mains du voleur. Dans ce cas, celui-ci devra rendre deux fois ce qu’il a pris. »
      4 « Un homme envoie ses animaux manger l’herbe de son champ ou de sa vigne, mais ils vont dans le champ de quelqu’un d’autre. Cet homme devra donner en échange les produits de son meilleur champ ou de sa meilleure vigne.
      5 « Quelqu’un brûle des buissons d’épines. Mais le feu brûle aussi le blé mûr déjà coupé, le blé non coupé ou le blé en train de pousser. Celui qui a allumé ce feu devra payer pour les dégâts.
      6 « Un homme reçoit d’un autre de l’argent ou des objets à garder. Un voleur les prend chez lui. Si on retrouve le voleur, celui-ci devra donner deux fois ce qu’il a pris.
      7 Mais on ne retrouve peut-être pas le voleur. Alors l’homme qui a reçu les objets à garder se présentera devant moi, son Dieu, et il jurera qu’il n’a pas pris les objets lui-même.
      8 Voici ce qu’il faut faire pour toute affaire malhonnête au sujet d’un bœuf, d’un âne, d’un mouton, d’un vêtement, ou de n’importe quel objet perdu. Si deux personnes affirment que l’animal ou l’objet leur appartient, elles doivent toutes les deux se présenter devant moi. Moi, le Seigneur, je dirai qui est coupable, et cette personne devra donner deux fois ce qu’elle a pris.
      9 « Voici encore d’autres cas : Quelqu’un demande à son voisin de lui garder son âne, son bœuf, son mouton, sa chèvre ou n’importe quel autre animal. Mais l’animal meurt, ou il se blesse, ou des bandits le volent, et personne n’a rien vu.
      10 Le voisin doit jurer en mon nom que lui-même n’a pas pris l’animal. Le propriétaire de l’animal acceptera le serment, et le voisin n’aura rien à payer.
      11 Mais si les voleurs ont pris l’animal chez cet homme, alors il devra payer le propriétaire.
      12 Si une bête sauvage a déchiré l’animal, l’homme devra apporter les restes pour le prouver. Alors il n’aura rien à rembourser.
      13 « Ou bien quelqu’un emprunte un animal à son voisin. Si la bête se blesse ou meurt quand son propriétaire n’est pas là, l’homme qui a demandé l’animal devra le rembourser.
      14 Mais si le propriétaire est là au moment de l’accident, l’homme ne rembourse rien. Si l’homme a payé pour emprunter l’animal, cet argent suffit. »
      15 « Un homme entraîne une jeune fille vierge qui n’est pas encore fiancée, et il couche avec elle. Il devra se marier avec elle et donner la dot à son père.
      16 Mais le père refuse peut-être de lui accorder sa fille. L’homme devra quand même payer en argent ce qu’on donne d’habitude comme dot pour se marier avec une jeune fille vierge.
      17 « Vous ne laisserez pas vivre une femme qui pratique la sorcellerie.
      18 Il faut faire mourir celui qui s’unit à un animal.
      19 À cause de moi, le SEIGNEUR, il faut absolument faire mourir celui qui offre des sacrifices aux faux dieux, au lieu de les offrir à moi seul.
      20 « Ne profitez pas des étrangers installés chez vous, ne les maltraitez pas. Vous-mêmes, vous avez été des étrangers en Égypte.
      21 Ne profitez pas des veuves et des orphelins.
      22 Si vous profitez d’eux, et s’ils crient au secours, j’entendrai leurs cris.
      23 Je me mettrai en colère et je vous ferai mourir à la guerre. Alors vos femmes deviendront veuves, et vos enfants seront orphelins.
      24 « Si vous prêtez de l’argent à quelqu’un de mon peuple, à un pauvre qui est avec vous, ne soyez pas comme les autres prêteurs, ne lui demandez pas d’intérêts.
      25 « Si vous prenez le vêtement de quelqu’un en échange de quelque chose, rendez-le avant le coucher du soleil.
      26 Il n’a que cela pour se couvrir, et pour se protéger. Sinon, comment pourra-t-il se couvrir ? S’il m’appelle au secours, je l’entendrai. Oui, je suis bon, moi !
      27 « Ne m’insultez pas, moi, votre Dieu. Ne maudissez pas celui qui a une responsabilité dans votre peuple.
      28 « Apportez-moi sans retard la part de récoltes et de raisin qui est pour moi. « Consacrez-moi l’aîné de vos fils.
      29 « Vous ferez la même chose avec vos animaux. Le premier petit d’une vache, d’une brebis ou d’une chèvre restera sept jours avec sa mère. Le huitième jour, vous me l’offrirez en sacrifice.
      30 « Vous serez totalement à moi. Ne mangez donc pas la viande d’un animal que les bêtes sauvages ont déchiré. Vous la jetterez aux chiens. »

      Exode 23

      1 « Ne répandez pas de faux bruits. Ne défendez pas un coupable en témoignant faussement.
      2 Ne suivez pas l’avis du plus grand nombre pour faire le mal. Quand vous êtes témoins dans un procès, ne suivez pas l’avis du plus grand nombre, si les gens suivent un chemin tordu.
      3 Ne favorisez pas un pauvre dans un procès.
      4 « Si votre ennemi a perdu son bœuf ou son âne, rendez-lui l’animal quand vous le trouvez.
      5 Si l’âne de votre ennemi tombe sous sa charge, ne le laissez pas ainsi. Aidez votre ennemi à le remettre debout.
      6 « Dans un procès, ne soyez pas injustes envers le pauvre qui vous demande de l’aide.
      7 N’écoutez pas les mensonges. Ne faites pas mourir l’innocent, ni celui qui est honnête. Si vous faites cela, moi, le Seigneur, je ne vous déclarerai pas innocents.
      8 N’acceptez pas de cadeaux. Les cadeaux rendent aveugles même ceux qui voient clair, et ils faussent le jugement des gens honnêtes.
      9 « Ne profitez pas des étrangers installés chez vous. Vous connaissez bien leur vie, puisque vous avez été des étrangers en Égypte. »
      10 « Pendant six ans, vous sèmerez des graines dans vos champs et vous récolterez leurs produits.
      11 Mais la septième année, vous laisserez la terre se reposer et vous ne récolterez rien. Les pauvres parmi vous y trouveront leur nourriture, et les animaux sauvages mangeront ce qu’ils laisseront. Vous ferez la même chose pour vos vignes et vos oliviers.
      12 « Pendant six jours, faites ce que vous avez à faire, mais le septième jour, ne travaillez pas. Alors vos bœufs et vos ânes pourront se reposer, les serviteurs et les étrangers installés chez vous pourront reprendre leur souffle.
      13 « Respectez attentivement tout ce que je vous commande. Ne priez jamais les dieux étrangers. Ne dites même pas leurs noms. »
      14 « Chaque année, vous célébrerez trois grandes fêtes en mon honneur.
      15 La première fête sera celle des Pains sans levain. Au cours du mois des Épis, pendant sept jours, vous mangerez des pains sans levain, comme je l’ai commandé. En effet, c’est au mois des Épis que vous êtes sortis d’Égypte. Vous ne viendrez pas me voir les mains vides.
      16 Ensuite, vous célébrerez la fête des Moissons quand vous récolterez les premiers produits des champs que vous cultivez. Puis vous ferez la fête de la Récolte à la fin de l’année, quand vous aurez fini de récolter les produits de vos plantations.
      17 Trois fois par an, tous les hommes de votre peuple viendront se présenter devant moi, le Maître, le SEIGNEUR.
      18 « Quand vous m’offrirez des animaux en sacrifice, vous n’apporterez pas de pain fait avec du levain. Vous ne garderez pas la graisse des sacrifices du soir jusqu’au matin du jour suivant.
      19 Vous m’apporterez les premiers produits de vos champs, à moi, le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu, dans ma maison. Vous ne ferez pas cuire un cabri dans le lait de sa mère. »
      20 Sur le mont Sinaï, Dieu dit encore à Moïse : « Je vais vous envoyer un ange. Sur la route, il marchera devant vous et il vous conduira dans le pays que je vous ai préparé.
      21 Respectez-le et écoutez-le. Ne lui résistez pas, il ne le supporterait pas. En effet, il agit en mon nom.
      22 Mais si vous l’écoutez, si vous faites ce que je dis, je serai l’ennemi de vos ennemis. Je combattrai ceux qui vous combattront.
      23 « Quand mon ange marchera devant vous pour vous conduire chez les Amorites, les Hittites, les Perizites, les Cananéens, les Hivites et les Jébusites, je détruirai ces peuples.
      24 Alors vous ne devrez pas vous mettre à genoux devant leurs dieux pour les servir. Vous n’imiterez pas leurs cérémonies. Mais vous détruirez les statues de ces dieux et vous casserez leurs pierres dressées.
      25 C’est moi seul, le SEIGNEUR votre Dieu, que vous servirez. Alors je bénirai votre nourriture et votre boisson, j’éloignerai de vous la maladie.
      26 Dans votre pays, aucune femme ne perdra son bébé avant la naissance ou ne sera stérile, et je vous donnerai une longue vie.
      27 « À la nouvelle de votre arrivée, les autres peuples auront très peur. Je sèmerai le désordre parmi tous les peuples chez qui vous irez, et je ferai fuir devant vous tous vos ennemis.
      28 J’enverrai aussi devant vous de grosses guêpes. Elles chasseront les Hivites, les Cananéens et les Hittites avant votre arrivée.
      29 Mais je ne les chasserai pas tous devant vous la même année. Sinon, le pays deviendrait un désert où les bêtes sauvages seraient très nombreuses, et cela ne serait pas bon pour vous.
      30 Je chasserai ces peuples devant vous petit à petit, quand vous deviendrez plus nombreux et quand vous occuperez le pays.
      31 Votre pays s’étendra depuis la mer des Roseaux jusqu’à la Méditerranée, du désert du Sinaï au fleuve Euphrate. Je livrerai en votre pouvoir les habitants de ces régions, et vous les chasserez devant vous.
      32 Ensuite, vous ne passerez aucun accord avec eux ni avec leurs dieux.
      33 Ils n’habiteront pas dans votre pays. Sinon, ils vous entraîneront à commettre des fautes contre moi. En effet, vous risquez de servir leurs dieux et d’être pris dans un piège. »

      Exode 24

      1 Le SEIGNEUR dit à Moïse : « Monte vers moi sur la montagne, avec Aaron, Nadab, Abihou et 70 des anciens d’Israël. Quand vous serez encore loin, vous vous mettrez à genoux devant moi.
      2 Toi seul, tu t’approcheras de moi. Les autres ne s’approcheront pas, et le peuple ne montera pas avec vous sur la montagne. »
      3 Moïse va dire au peuple d’Israël toutes les paroles du SEIGNEUR et tous ses commandements. Alors tout le peuple répond d’une seule voix : « Nous ferons tout ce que le SEIGNEUR a dit. »
      4 Moïse met par écrit toutes les paroles du SEIGNEUR. Puis il se lève tôt le matin. Il construit un autel au bas de la montagne et il dresse douze pierres, une pour chaque tribu d’Israël.
      5 Moïse envoie quelques jeunes Israélites offrir des sacrifices complets. Ils tuent aussi des taureaux et ils les offrent en sacrifices de communion.
      6 Moïse met la moitié du sang dans des coupes et il verse l’autre moitié sur l’autel.
      7 Il prend ensuite le livre de l’alliance et il le lit à haute voix devant le peuple. Les Israélites disent : « Tout ce que le SEIGNEUR a dit, nous le ferons et nous lui obéirons. »
      8 Alors Moïse prend le sang. Il en lance sur le peuple en disant : « Voici le sang de l’alliance que le SEIGNEUR a faite avec vous en accord avec tous ces commandements. »
      9 Après cela, Moïse monte sur la montagne avec Aaron, Nadab, Abihou et les 70 anciens d’Israël.
      10 Ils voient le Dieu d’Israël. Sous ses pieds, on dirait un sol de pierres précieuses bleues, aussi pures que le ciel.
      11 Dieu ne fait pas de mal aux notables d’Israël. Ils peuvent le regarder, puis ils mangent et ils boivent.
      12 Le SEIGNEUR dit à Moïse : « Monte auprès de moi sur la montagne et reste là. Je vais te donner les tablettes de pierre sur lesquelles j’ai écrit les commandements de la loi. Tu les enseigneras aux Israélites. »
      13 Moïse, accompagné de Josué, son serviteur, monte sur la montagne de Dieu.
      14 Mais avant de monter, il dit aux anciens : « Attendez-nous ici jusqu’à notre retour. Aaron et Hour restent avec vous. Si vous avez un problème à régler, allez les trouver. »
      15 Moïse monte donc sur la montagne. Le nuage de fumée la recouvre.
      16 La gloire du SEIGNEUR reste sur le mont Sinaï, et le nuage de fumée le couvre pendant six jours. Le septième jour, le SEIGNEUR appelle Moïse du milieu du nuage.
      17 Les Israélites voient alors la gloire du SEIGNEUR comme un feu dévorant, au sommet de la montagne.
      18 Moïse entre dans le nuage de fumée et il continue à monter. Il reste là-haut 40 jours et 40 nuits.

      Exode 25

      1 Le SEIGNEUR dit à Moïse :
      2 « Demande aux Israélites de faire des dons pour moi. Vous les recevrez de tous ceux qui les offriront de bon cœur.
      3 Voici les dons que vous recevrez d’eux : or, argent, bronze,
      4 très belle laine violette, rouge clair ou rouge foncé, lin fin, poils de chèvre,
      5 peaux de béliers teintes en rouge, beau cuir, bois d’acacia,
      6 huile pour les lampes, parfums pour l’huile de consécration et pour le parfum à brûler,
      7 pierres rouges et autres pierres précieuses pour l’éfod et pour la pochette du grand-prêtre.
      8 Les Israélites me feront un lieu saint, et j’habiterai au milieu d’eux.
      9 Je vais te montrer le plan de la tente sacrée et les modèles à suivre pour fabriquer les objets. Vous les ferez exactement comme cela. »
      10 « Vous fabriquerez un coffre en bois d’acacia. Il aura 125 centimètres de long, 75 centimètres de large et 75 centimètres de haut.
      11 Vous le recouvrirez d’or pur à l’intérieur et à l’extérieur. Vous mettrez une bordure en or tout autour.
      12 Vous fabriquerez quatre anneaux en or et vous les fixerez aux quatre coins du coffre : deux anneaux d’un côté, deux anneaux de l’autre.
      13 Vous couperez aussi deux barres en bois d’acacia et vous les recouvrirez d’or.
      14 Vous les passerez dans les anneaux de chaque côté du coffre pour le transporter.
      15 Vous laisserez les barres dans les anneaux, vous ne les enlèverez plus.
      16 Dans ce coffre, tu mettras les tablettes de l’alliance que je te donnerai.
      17 « Vous fabriquerez le couvercle du coffre en or pur. Il aura 125 centimètres de long et 75 centimètres de large.
      18 Vous fabriquerez deux chérubins en or battu aux deux bouts du couvercle.
      19 Ces deux chérubins formeront une seule pièce avec le couvercle, à chaque bout.
      20 Ils seront l’un en face de l’autre et ils auront le visage tourné vers le couvercle. Leurs ailes seront ouvertes toutes grandes vers le haut et elles protégeront ainsi le couvercle.
      21 Dans le coffre, tu mettras les tablettes de l’alliance que je te donnerai. Puis tu mettras le couvercle sur le coffre.
      22 C’est là que je me montrerai à toi, sur le couvercle du coffre, entre les deux chérubins. C’est là que je te donnerai mes ordres pour les Israélites. »
      23 « Ensuite, vous fabriquerez une table en bois d’acacia. Elle aura 1 mètre de long, 50 centimètres de large et 75 centimètres de haut.
      24 Vous la recouvrirez d’or pur et vous ferez une bordure en or tout autour.
      25 Sur les quatre côtés, vous mettrez un cadre de 8 centimètres de large et là aussi, vous fabriquerez une bordure en or.
      26 Vous fabriquerez quatre anneaux en or. Vous les fixerez aux quatre coins, près des quatre pieds.
      27 Les anneaux seront près du cadre. On fera entrer des barres dans les anneaux pour pouvoir transporter la table.
      28 Vous couperez deux barres en bois d’acacia et vous les recouvrirez d’or. Elles serviront à transporter la table.
      29 Vous fabriquerez en or pur des plats, des coupes, des récipients, des bols pour les offrandes de vin.
      30 Sur cette table, vous placerez les pains que vous m’offrirez. Il y en aura toujours devant moi. »
      31 « Vous fabriquerez un porte-lampes en or pur battu. Le bas et la tige, les coupes, les boutons et les fleurs formeront une seule pièce.
      32 Six branches partiront de la tige du milieu : trois branches à droite, trois branches à gauche.
      33 Sur chaque branche, il y aura trois coupes en forme d’amande avec bouton et fleur.
      34 Sur la tige du milieu, il y aura quatre coupes en forme d’amande, avec bouton et fleur.
      35 Il y aura aussi un bouton sous les deux premières branches qui partent l’une à droite et l’autre à gauche de la tige du milieu. Ce sera la même chose pour les six branches qui sortent du porte-lampes.
      36 Les boutons et les branches formeront une seule pièce avec le reste du porte-lampes. L’ensemble sera en or pur battu.
      37 Vous fabriquerez sept lampes. Vous les mettrez sur le porte-lampes pour qu’elles donnent de la lumière devant lui.
      38 Ses pincettes et ses cendriers seront en or pur.
      39 Pour fabriquer le porte-lampes, les pincettes et les cendriers, vous prendrez 30 kilos d’or pur.
      40 Toi, Moïse, tu feras tout fabriquer selon le modèle que je te montre ici, sur cette montagne. »

      Exode 26

      1 « Pour la tente sacrée, des artisans feront dix bandes de tissu, avec des fils de lin solides, mélangés avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé. Ils broderont dessus des chérubins.
      2 Toutes les bandes auront la même grandeur : 14 mètres sur 2 mètres.
      3 Vous mettrez d’abord cinq bandes ensemble, puis les cinq autres.
      4 Vous fixerez des attaches en laine violette au bord de la cinquième bande. Vous en mettrez aussi au bord de la première des cinq autres bandes.
      5 Sur le côté droit des cinq premières bandes, et sur le côté gauche des cinq autres bandes, vous fixerez 50 attaches. Chaque attache sera en face d’une autre.
      6 Vous fabriquerez 50 agrafes en or. Puis vous accrocherez les deux ensembles de cinq bandes aux attaches. Alors la tente sacrée formera un tout.
      7 « Ensuite, vous ferez onze bandes de tissu en poils de chèvre, pour former une deuxième tente au-dessus de la tente sacrée.
      8 Toutes les bandes auront la même grandeur : 15 mètres sur 2 mètres.
      9 Vous mettrez d’abord cinq bandes ensemble, puis les six autres. Vous ferez tomber la sixième bande sur le devant de la tente.
      10 Vous fixerez 50 attaches au bord de la cinquième bande et 50 attaches au bord de la première des six autres bandes.
      11 Vous fabriquerez 50 agrafes en bronze. Puis vous les accrocherez aux attaches. Alors cette tente formera un tout.
      12 Les bandes de cette deuxième tente dépasseront et retomberont librement : dans le sens de la largeur des bandes, une moitié du tissu en trop retombera librement sur le fond de la tente sacrée.
      13 Dans le sens de la longueur des bandes, le mètre de tissu en trop retombera librement sur les deux côtés de la tente sacrée, pour la couvrir.
      14 Pour protéger la deuxième tente, vous ferez une couverture en peaux de béliers teintes en rouge et une couverture en beau cuir par-dessus.
      15 « Vous fabriquerez des cadres en bois d’acacia et vous les mettrez debout pour soutenir la tente sacrée.
      16 Tous les cadres se ressembleront : chaque cadre aura 5 mètres sur 75 centimètres. En bas, on laissera dépasser deux morceaux de bois parallèles.
      18 Vous fabriquerez 20 cadres pour le côté sud de la tente
      19 et 40 supports en argent. Les cadres s’appuieront sur eux. Chaque cadre aura deux supports. Pour le faire tenir debout, on enfoncera les deux morceaux de bois qui dépassent dans les deux supports.
      20 Pour le côté nord de la tente, vous fabriquerez aussi 20 cadres
      21 avec 40 supports en argent. Chaque cadre s’appuiera sur deux supports.
      22 Pour le fond de la tente, à l’ouest, vous fabriquerez six cadres
      23 plus deux cadres spéciaux pour les coins du fond.
      24 Ces deux cadres seront écartés en bas, mais ils se rejoindront en haut, dans le premier anneau. Tous les deux seront pareils et ils serviront de cadres pour les coins de la tente.
      25 Le fond de la tente sacrée comprendra donc huit cadres et seize supports en argent. Chaque cadre s’appuiera sur deux supports.
      26 « Ensuite, vous taillerez des traverses en bois d’acacia : cinq pour tenir les cadres sur un côté de la tente sacrée,
      27 cinq pour les cadres de l’autre côté, cinq pour les cadres du fond, à l’ouest.
      28 La traverse du milieu passera à la moitié de la hauteur des cadres, d’un bout à l’autre de la tente.
      29 Vous recouvrirez les cadres et les traverses avec de l’or. Vous fabriquerez des anneaux en or dans lesquels les traverses entreront.
      30 Ensuite, Moïse, tu feras dresser la tente sacrée selon le modèle que je te montre ici, sur cette montagne.
      31 « Des artisans feront un rideau avec des fils de lin solides, mélangés avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé. Ils broderont dessus des chérubins.
      32 Vous fixerez le rideau avec des crochets en or, à quatre colonnes en bois d’acacia recouvertes d’or. Ces colonnes seront plantées sur quatre supports en argent.
      33 Vous placerez le rideau sous les agrafes. « C’est derrière ce rideau que vous mettrez le coffre contenant les tablettes de l’alliance. Le rideau séparera ainsi le lieu saint et le lieu très saint.
      34 Vous mettrez le couvercle sur le coffre de l’alliance, dans le lieu très saint.
      35 Vous mettrez la table des pains dans le lieu saint, devant le rideau, du côté nord de la tente. Vous mettrez le porte-lampes devant la table des pains, du côté sud de la tente sacrée.
      36 « Ensuite, pour l’entrée de la tente sacrée, des brodeurs feront un autre rideau avec des fils de lin solides, mélangés avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé.
      37 Pour porter le rideau, vous fabriquerez cinq colonnes en bois d’acacia. Vous les recouvrirez d’or. Vous fixerez le rideau aux colonnes avec des crochets en or. Vous ferez fondre pour les colonnes 5 supports en bronze. »

      Exode 27

      1 « Ensuite, vous fabriquerez un autel en bois d’acacia pour les sacrifices. Il sera carré. Chaque côté aura 2 mètres et demi. Cet autel aura 1 mètre et demi de haut.
      2 Ses quatre coins seront relevés, mais ils formeront une seule pièce avec l’autel. Vous les recouvrirez de bronze.
      3 Vous fabriquerez en bronze tous les ustensiles de l’autel : les récipients pour les cendres grasses, les pelles, les coupes pour le sang, les fourchettes à viande et les brûle-parfums.
      4 Vous fabriquerez une grille en bronze avec un anneau en bronze à chacun des coins de la grille.
      5 Vous fixerez cette grille autour de l’autel, sous sa bordure, depuis le bas jusqu’à mi-hauteur.
      6 Vous couperez deux barres en bois d’acacia et vous les recouvrirez de bronze.
      7 Vous les passerez dans les anneaux, sur les côtés de l’autel, pour le transporter.
      8 Cet autel en planches sera creux à l’intérieur. Vous le ferez selon le modèle que je te montre ici, sur cette montagne. »
      9 « Autour de la tente sacrée, vous laisserez un espace. Cette cour sera limitée par des tentures tissées en fils de lin solides. Du côté sud, les tentures s’étendront sur 50 mètres.
      10 Vous les fixerez avec des crochets et des tiges en argent à 20 colonnes en bronze. Les colonnes seront plantées sur 20 supports en bronze.
      11 Du côté nord, les tentures s’étendront aussi sur 50 mètres. Elles seront fixées de la même façon.
      12 Du côté ouest, les tentures s’étendront sur 25 mètres, dans le sens de la largeur de la cour. Elles seront fixées à dix colonnes plantées sur dix supports.
      13 Du côté de l’entrée, à l’est, la cour aura aussi 25 mètres de large.
      14 De chaque côté de l’entrée, il y aura des tentures sur 7 mètres et demi, avec trois colonnes et trois supports.
      16 À l’entrée de la cour, vous mettrez un rideau de 10 mètres. Des brodeurs le feront en fils de lin solides, mélangés avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé. Il sera fixé à quatre colonnes plantées sur quatre supports.
      17 Des tiges en argent relieront toutes les colonnes qui limitent la cour. Les crochets seront en argent, et les supports seront en bronze.
      18 La cour aura 50 mètres de long et 25 mètres de large. La hauteur des tentures de lin sera de 2 mètres et demi. Les supports des colonnes seront en bronze.
      19 Vous prendrez aussi du bronze pour tous les objets qui serviront à construire la tente sacrée. De même, pour les piquets de cette tente et pour les piquets de la clôture, vous utiliserez du bronze. »
      20 « Toi, Moïse, tu commanderas aux Israélites de te donner de l’huile d’olive de très bonne qualité. Elle servira à allumer les lampes tous les soirs.
      21 Aaron et ses fils placeront le porte-lampes dans la tente de la rencontre, devant le rideau qui cache le coffre contenant les tablettes de l’alliance. Les lampes brûleront du soir au matin devant moi, le SEIGNEUR. C’est une règle pour toujours, pour les Israélites, de génération en génération. »

      Exode 28

      1 « Moïse, fais venir auprès de toi ton frère Aaron et ses fils : Nadab, Abihou, Élazar et Itamar. Tu les sépareras des autres Israélites pour qu’ils me servent comme prêtres.
      2 Vous ferez pour ton frère Aaron des vêtements sacrés magnifiques.
      3 Pour cela, tu parleras à tous les artisans à qui j’ai donné une grande habileté. Et ils feront les vêtements d’Aaron. Celui-ci les portera quand il sera consacré et ensuite quand il me servira comme prêtre.
      4 Ces vêtements seront : la pochette, l’éfod, le vêtement de dessus, le vêtement brodé, le turban et la ceinture. Ton frère Aaron et ses fils les porteront pour me servir comme prêtres.
      5 Les brodeurs prendront de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé, du lin fin et des fils d’or. »
      6 « Des artisans feront l’éfod en fils de lin solides, mélangés avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé. Ils le broderont avec des fils d’or.
      7 Pour attacher l’éfod, vous coudrez deux bretelles sur les côtés.
      8 La ceinture qui attache l’éfod forme une seule pièce avec lui. Vous la ferez aussi avec des fils de lin solides, mélangés avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé. Vous la broderez avec des fils d’or.
      9 Vous prendrez deux pierres précieuses rouges et vous graverez sur elles les noms des fils de Jacob :
      10 six noms sur la première pierre, et six autres noms sur la deuxième pierre, dans l’ordre de leur naissance.
      11 L’artisan qui gravera les noms sur les deux pierres le fera comme on grave un sceau. Il les fixera ensuite dans deux montures en or.
      12 On mettra les deux pierres sur les bretelles de l’éfod. Elles représenteront les douze tribus d’Israël. De cette façon, Aaron portera leurs noms sur ses épaules, devant le SEIGNEUR. Et moi, le SEIGNEUR, je ne vous oublierai pas.
      13 Les deux montures seront en or
      14 et on y attachera deux petites chaînes en or pur. Vous les ferez comme des tresses. »
      15 « Des artisans feront la pochette qui servira pour le jugement. On fera cette pochette comme l’éfod, en fils de lin solides, mélangés avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé, et ils la broderont avec des fils d’or.
      16 Cette pochette sera carrée, de 25 centimètres de côté.
      17 Vous la décorerez avec quatre rangées de pierres précieuses : sur la première rangée, vous mettrez une pierre rouge vif, une pierre jaune et une pierre bleu-vert.
      18 Sur la deuxième rangée, vous mettrez une pierre rouge foncé, une pierre bleue et un diamant.
      19 Sur la troisième rangée, vous mettrez une pierre orange, une pierre de plusieurs couleurs et une pierre violette.
      20 Sur la quatrième rangée, vous mettrez une pierre vert clair, une pierre rouge et une pierre verte. Vous fixerez chaque pierre sur une monture en or.
      21 Sur chaque pierre, vous graverez le nom d’un des douze fils de Jacob, comme on grave un sceau. Les douze pierres représenteront les douze tribus d’Israël.
      22 « Pour la pochette, vous tresserez deux petites chaînes en or pur.
      23 Vous fabriquerez aussi deux anneaux en or et vous les fixerez en haut de la pochette, aux deux coins.
      24 Vous attacherez les deux petites chaînes en or aux deux anneaux de la pochette.
      25 Vous attacherez l’autre bout des chaînes aux deux montures en or placées sur les bretelles de l’éfod, pour que la pochette soit devant.
      26 Vous fabriquerez deux autres anneaux en or et vous les fixerez en bas de la pochette, aux deux coins, du côté de l’éfod.
      27 Vous fabriquerez encore deux autres anneaux en or. Vous les fixerez au bas des bretelles de l’éfod, devant, là où on les a cousues. Vous mettrez ces anneaux au-dessus de la ceinture de l’éfod.
      28 On reliera les anneaux de la pochette à ceux de l’éfod avec un cordon violet. Alors la pochette restera sur la ceinture de l’éfod et elle ne bougera pas sur l’éfod.
      29 « De cette façon, quand Aaron entrera dans le lieu saint, il portera sur la poitrine cette pochette du jugement avec les noms des douze tribus d’Israël, pour que moi, le SEIGNEUR, je ne vous oublie jamais.
      30 Toi, Moïse, tu placeras dans la pochette du jugement l’Ourim et le Toummim. Alors Aaron les aura sur la poitrine quand il se présentera devant moi. En effet, il devra toujours les porter sur lui quand il sera devant moi, pour connaître ma volonté envers les Israélites. »
      31 « Ensuite, vous tisserez le vêtement qui est sous l’éfod entièrement avec de la laine violette.
      32 Pour passer la tête, vous ferez une ouverture au milieu. Vous tisserez une bordure autour de cette ouverture et vous la rendrez solide pour qu’elle ne se déchire pas.
      33 Vous décorerez le bas du vêtement, tout autour. Vous broderez des fruits appelés grenades avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé. Vous y mettrez aussi des petites cloches en or, tout autour :
      34 il y aura une petite cloche en or, une grenade, puis une cloche et une grenade, et ainsi de suite, tout autour.
      35 Aaron portera ce vêtement quand il me servira. On entendra les petites cloches quand il se présentera devant moi dans le lieu saint et quand il sortira. Ainsi, il ne risquera pas de mourir.
      36 « Puis vous fabriquerez un bijou d’or pur en forme de fleur. Vous graverez sur lui “Consacré au SEIGNEUR”. Vous le graverez comme un sceau.
      37 Vous fixerez ce bijou avec un cordon violet sur le devant du turban sacré.
      38 Aaron le portera toujours sur son front, quand il se présentera devant moi, le SEIGNEUR. Grâce à cela, j’accepterai les dons sacrés que les Israélites m’offriront, même s’ils font des erreurs en me les apportant.
      39 « Ensuite, pour Aaron, vous tisserez un vêtement en lin, et vous ferez un turban en lin et une ceinture brodée.
      40 « Pour les fils d’Aaron, vous ferez également des vêtements magnifiques, des ceintures et des tiares.
      41 « Toi, Moïse, tu mettras ces vêtements à ton frère Aaron et à ses fils. Tu verseras de l’huile sur leur tête et tu les établiras à mon service. De cette façon, tu les consacreras pour qu’ils me servent comme prêtres.
      42 Pour cacher leur corps, vous leur ferez des caleçons en lin. Ils les couvriront depuis les reins jusqu’aux cuisses.
      43 Aaron et ses fils les porteront quand ils entreront dans la tente de la rencontre. Ils les porteront aussi quand ils approcheront de l’autel pour me servir dans le lieu saint. Ainsi, ils ne se montreront pas nus et ils ne risqueront pas de mourir à cause de cela. C’est une règle pour toujours, pour Aaron, ses enfants, et les enfants de leurs enfants. »

      Exode 29

      1 « Voici comment tu feras pour consacrer Aaron et ses fils comme prêtres à mon service. « Tu choisiras un taureau et deux béliers sans défaut.
      2 Avec de la farine de blé, tu prépareras des pains sans levain, des gâteaux sans levain, faits à l’huile, des galettes sans levain arrosées d’huile.
      3 Tu les mettras dans un panier et tu le présenteras dans le lieu saint avec le taureau et les deux béliers.
      4 « Tu conduiras Aaron et ses fils à l’entrée de la tente de la rencontre et tu leur feras prendre un bain pour se rendre purs.
      5 Tu mettras à Aaron ces vêtements sacrés : l’éfod, les deux vêtements sous l’éfod et la pochette. Tu lui mettras la ceinture de l’éfod autour de la taille.
      6 Tu poseras le turban sur sa tête et tu fixeras l’insigne sacré sur le turban.
      7 Puis tu prendras l’huile de consécration et tu la verseras sur sa tête pour le consacrer.
      8 Ensuite, tu demanderas aux fils d’Aaron de s’approcher. Tu leur mettras leurs vêtements,
      9 puis tu leur attacheras une ceinture autour de la taille. Tu couvriras leurs têtes avec une tiare. « Ensuite, tu établiras Aaron et ses fils à mon service, et à partir de ce moment, ils seront prêtres pour toujours.
      10 « Tu présenteras le taureau devant la tente de la rencontre. Aaron et ses fils poseront les mains sur sa tête.
      11 Tu égorgeras le taureau pour le sacrifice, devant moi, à l’entrée de la tente de la rencontre.
      12 Tu prendras de son sang et tu en mettras avec un doigt sur les quatre coins de l’autel. Puis tu verseras le reste du sang au pied de l’autel.
      13 Tu prendras toute la graisse qui enveloppe les intestins et l’estomac de l’animal, la meilleure partie du foie et les deux reins avec la graisse qui les entoure. Tu brûleras tout cela sur l’autel.
      14 Ce sera le sacrifice des prêtres pour recevoir le pardon de leurs péchés. Mais le reste du taureau, viande, peau et intestins, tu les jetteras au feu à l’extérieur du camp.
      15 « Puis tu prendras le premier bélier. Aaron et ses fils poseront les mains sur sa tête.
      16 Tu l’égorgeras pour le sacrifice, tu prendras son sang et tu le verseras sur les côtés de l’autel, tout autour.
      17 Tu découperas l’animal en morceaux, tu laveras ses intestins et ses pattes. Puis tu les mettras sur les morceaux et la tête.
      18 Tu brûleras tout le bélier sur l’autel. Ce sera un sacrifice complet que vous m’offrirez. La fumée de bonne odeur de ce sacrifice qui m’est offert me plaira, à moi, le SEIGNEUR.
      19 « Ensuite, tu prendras le deuxième bélier. Aaron et ses fils poseront les mains sur sa tête.
      20 Tu l’égorgeras pour le sacrifice. Tu prendras de son sang et tu en mettras au bas de l’oreille droite d’Aaron et de ses fils. Tu en mettras sur le pouce de leur main droite et de leur pied droit. Et tu verseras du sang sur les côtés de l’autel, tout autour.
      21 Tu prendras un peu de sang sur l’autel et de l’huile de consécration. Tu en lanceras sur Aaron et sur ses vêtements, puis sur ses fils et sur leurs vêtements. Alors Aaron, ses fils et leurs vêtements seront consacrés.
      22 L’offrande du deuxième bélier marquera le moment où les fils d’Aaron commenceront à servir le SEIGNEUR. Tu prendras la queue de cet animal, la graisse qui enveloppe les intestins et l’estomac, la meilleure partie du foie, les deux reins avec la graisse qui les entoure, et la cuisse droite.
      23 Dans le panier des pains sans levain placé devant moi, tu prendras un pain rond, un gâteau à l’huile et une galette.
      24 Tu mettras tous ces dons dans les mains d’Aaron et de ses fils. Tu leur diras de me les offrir avec le geste de présentation.
      25 Puis tu reprendras ces offrandes de leurs mains et tu les brûleras sur l’autel, au-dessus du sacrifice complet. La fumée de bonne odeur de ces sacrifices qui me sont offerts me plaira, à moi, le SEIGNEUR.
      26 Tu prendras la poitrine de ce deuxième bélier, qui est pour Aaron, et tu me la présenteras toi-même, avec le geste de présentation. Ensuite, cette part de l’animal sera pour toi.
      27 « Tu déclareras ceci : la poitrine et la cuisse droite prises sur ce bélier et offertes avec le geste de présentation sont réservées au SEIGNEUR.
      28 Tu les mettras à part pour Aaron et ses fils. C’est pourquoi les Israélites devront toujours prendre ces morceaux sur les animaux qu’ils m’offrent en sacrifices de communion, à moi, le SEIGNEUR. Et ils les donneront à Aaron et à ses fils.
      29 « Après la mort d’Aaron, ses vêtements sacrés seront à ses fils. Ils les porteront le jour où ils seront consacrés et où ils commenceront à me servir.
      30 Le prêtre, un fils d’Aaron, qui remplacera celui-ci, portera ces vêtements pendant sept jours quand il entrera dans la tente de la rencontre pour me servir dans le lieu saint.
      31 « Vous prendrez le deuxième bélier, celui qu’on offre pour marquer le moment où les prêtres commencent à me servir. Vous ferez cuire sa viande dans un endroit réservé à cela.
      32 Aaron et ses fils la mangeront, avec les pains qui restent dans le panier, à l’entrée de la tente de la rencontre.
      33 Eux seuls mangeront les offrandes qui leur ont permis de recevoir le pardon que je donne, moi, le SEIGNEUR, pour être consacrés comme prêtres et établis à mon service. Personne d’autre n’aura le droit d’en manger, parce que c’est une nourriture consacrée.
      34 Si le matin du jour suivant, il reste de la viande ou du pain, on le brûlera. On ne devra plus en manger, parce que c’est une nourriture consacrée.
      35 « Tu agiras envers Aaron et ses fils en suivant les ordres que je t’ai donnés. La cérémonie qui marquera pour les prêtres le début de leur service durera sept jours.
      36 « Chaque jour, tu offriras un taureau en sacrifice pour recevoir le pardon des péchés. Ainsi, tu purifieras l’autel, puis tu verseras de l’huile dessus pour le consacrer.
      37 Cette cérémonie durera aussi sept jours. Ensuite, l’autel sera uniquement réservé à mon service. Alors, toute personne ou tout objet qui le touchera en supportera les conséquences. »
      38 « Chaque jour, vous offrirez sur l’autel deux agneaux âgés d’un an, et cela pour toujours.
      39 Vous offrirez le premier le matin et vous offrirez le deuxième le soir.
      40 Avec l’agneau du matin et avec celui du soir, vous apporterez trois kilos de farine mélangée à un litre et demi d’huile de bonne qualité. Vous apporterez aussi un litre et demi de vin. La fumée de bonne odeur de ces sacrifices qui me sont offerts me plaira, à moi, le SEIGNEUR.
      42 À l’avenir, vous continuerez toujours à m’offrir des sacrifices complets, à l’entrée de la tente de la rencontre, de génération en génération. C’est là que je vous rencontrerai et que je te parlerai.
      43 « C’est là que je rencontrerai les Israélites, et l’endroit sera rendu saint par ma présence pleine de gloire.
      44 Je consacrerai moi-même la tente de la rencontre et l’autel. Je consacrerai Aaron et ses fils pour qu’ils me servent comme prêtres.
      45 Je serai présent parmi les Israélites et je serai leur Dieu.
      46 Ils reconnaîtront alors que le SEIGNEUR leur Dieu, c’est moi, moi, qui les ai fait sortir d’Égypte pour habiter au milieu d’eux. « Le SEIGNEUR, leur Dieu, c’est moi. »

      Exode 30

      1 « Ensuite, vous fabriquerez un autel en bois d’acacia pour brûler le parfum sacré.
      2 Il sera carré, il aura 50 centimètres de côté et 1 mètre de haut. Ses coins seront relevés, mais ils formeront une seule pièce avec l’autel.
      3 Vous le recouvrirez entièrement d’or pur : le dessus avec les coins relevés et les quatre côtés. Vous fabriquerez une bordure en or tout autour.
      4 Vous fabriquerez deux anneaux en or et vous les fixerez de chaque côté de l’autel, au-dessus de la bordure. Vous ferez entrer des barres dans les anneaux pour le transporter.
      5 Vous couperez ces deux barres en bois d’acacia et vous les recouvrirez d’or.
      6 Vous laisserez cet autel devant le rideau qui cache le coffre contenant les tablettes de l’alliance. C’est là, Moïse, que je te rencontrerai.
      7 Chaque matin, Aaron y fera brûler une offrande de parfum, au moment où il ira nettoyer les lampes du lieu saint.
      8 Chaque soir, il fera brûler du parfum au moment où il ira allumer les lampes. Vous continuerez toujours à brûler du parfum devant moi, de génération en génération.
      9 Sur cet autel, vous n’offrirez pas de parfum ordinaire ni des sacrifices complets, ni des produits de la terre, ni du vin.
      10 Une fois par an, Aaron le rendra pur. Il placera sur les coins relevés de cet autel le sang de l’animal offert en sacrifice pour recevoir le pardon des péchés. On recommencera cette cérémonie chaque année, de génération en génération. Cet autel me sera consacré et il sera uniquement réservé à mon service. »
      11 Le SEIGNEUR dit encore à Moïse :
      12 « Quand tu compteras les Israélites, chacun d’eux me paiera une taxe pour racheter sa vie. Alors aucun malheur ne vous atteindra pendant qu’on les comptera.
      13 Chaque homme compté donnera une pièce de cinq grammes d’argent, c’est-à-dire la moitié de l’unité de poids utilisée dans le lieu saint. Cette taxe sera pour moi.
      14 Elle sera payée par tous les Israélites de 20 ans et plus, c’est-à-dire par ceux qui seront comptés.
      15 Le riche et le pauvre paieront la même taxe : cinq grammes d’argent, ni plus ni moins. Chacun paiera pour moi la somme fixée, pour racheter sa vie.
      16 Quand tu auras reçu tout cet argent des mains des Israélites, tu l’utiliseras pour entretenir la tente de la rencontre. Ainsi, je me souviendrai des Israélites et je protégerai leur vie. »
      17 Le SEIGNEUR dit encore à Moïse :
      18 « Pour les purifications, vous fabriquerez un bassin en bronze avec son support en bronze. Vous le mettrez entre la tente de la rencontre et l’autel des sacrifices, et vous le remplirez d’eau.
      19 Aaron et ses fils prendront cette eau pour se laver les mains et les pieds.
      20 En effet, avant d’entrer dans la tente de la rencontre, ils se laveront à l’eau pour ne pas mourir. Avant de s’approcher de l’autel pour m’offrir un sacrifice,
      21 ils se laveront les mains et les pieds pour ne pas mourir. C’est une règle pour toujours, pour eux et les enfants de leurs enfants, de génération en génération. »
      22 Le SEIGNEUR dit encore à Moïse :
      23 « Trouve des parfums d’excellente qualité : cinq kilos de myrrhe liquide, deux kilos et demi de cinnamome, deux kilos et demi de cannelle de bonne odeur,
      24 et cinq kilos de casse. Prends aussi six litres d’huile d’olive.
      25 Un parfumeur les mélangera. Il en fera l’huile de consécration.
      26 Tu t’en serviras pour consacrer la tente de la rencontre, le coffre contenant les tablettes de l’alliance,
      27 la table des pains et le porte-lampes avec tous leurs ustensiles, l’autel du parfum,
      28 l’autel des sacrifices avec tous ses ustensiles, le bassin et son support.
      29 Tu les consacreras et ensuite, ils seront uniquement réservés à mon service. Alors, toute personne ou tout objet qui les touchera en supportera les conséquences.
      30 Tu verseras cette huile sur Aaron et ses fils, et tu les consacreras pour qu’ils me servent comme prêtres.
      31 « Ensuite, tu diras aux Israélites : “Voici l’huile de consécration. Vous vous en servirez uniquement au service du SEIGNEUR, de génération en génération.
      32 Personne ne doit s’en servir pour se frotter le corps. Personne ne doit fabriquer un mélange composé de la même façon. En effet, cette huile est réservée aux consécrations, et elle doit rester sacrée pour vous.
      33 Si quelqu’un prépare un mélange comme celui-ci et en met sur le corps d’une personne qui n’est pas prêtre, il faut le chasser de la communauté.” »
      34 Le SEIGNEUR dit encore à Moïse : « Trouve des produits de bonne odeur : résine et parfums de différentes plantes. Mélange-les avec une quantité égale d’encens pur.
      35 Un parfumeur les mélangera avec du sel pour faire un produit pur et réservé à mon service.
      36 Tu réduiras une partie de ce parfum en poudre fine. Tu en mettras dans la tente de la rencontre, devant le coffre contenant les tablettes de l’alliance, là où je te rencontrerai. Pour vous, ce produit sera uniquement réservé à mon service.
      37 Personne ne doit fabriquer un parfum composé de la même façon. Et vous ne vous en servirez pas pour vous-mêmes. Vous le considérerez comme un produit réservé pour le SEIGNEUR.
      38 Si quelqu’un prépare un parfum comme celui-ci, pour en respirer l’odeur, il faut le chasser de la communauté. »

      Exode 31

      1 Le SEIGNEUR dit encore à Moïse :
      2 « Écoute, j’ai choisi Bessalel, fils d’Ouri et petit-fils de Hour, de la tribu de Juda.
      3 Je l’ai rempli de mon esprit pour le rendre très habile et intelligent. Il connaît toutes sortes de techniques :
      4 il sait faire de belles choses, il sait travailler l’or, l’argent et le bronze.
      5 Il sait tailler les pierres précieuses et les monter sur des objets, il sait sculpter le bois. En un mot, il sait tout faire.
      6 Je lui donne comme aide Oholiab, fils d’Ahissamak, de la tribu de Dan. Je rends aussi très habiles d’autres artisans. Alors ils pourront fabriquer tout ce que j’ai commandé :
      7 la tente de la rencontre, le coffre sacré contenant les tablettes de l’alliance, le couvercle du coffre sacré, tous les objets de la tente,
      8 la table des pains et le porte-lampes en or pur avec tous leurs ustensiles, l’autel du parfum,
      9 l’autel des sacrifices avec tous ses ustensiles, le bassin avec son support,
      10 les vêtements de cérémonie, les vêtements sacrés pour le prêtre Aaron, les vêtements que ses fils porteront pour accomplir leur service de prêtres,
      11 l’huile de consécration et le parfum à brûler pour le lieu saint. Les artisans feront tout exactement comme je l’ai commandé. »
      12 Le SEIGNEUR dit à Moïse :
      13 « Voici les commandements que tu donneras aux Israélites : “Vous respecterez bien les jours de sabbat. En effet, le sabbat est un signe entre vous et moi pour toujours. Il vous rappelle que le SEIGNEUR, c’est moi, et que vous m’appartenez.
      14 Vous respecterez donc le sabbat. Pour vous, c’est un jour consacré. Celui qui ne le respectera pas et qui travaillera ce jour-là, il faut le chasser de la communauté et le faire mourir.
      15 Vous travaillerez pendant six jours. Mais le septième jour, c’est le sabbat, le jour de repos qui m’est réservé. Si quelqu’un travaille un jour de sabbat, il faut le faire mourir.
      16 Les Israélites respecteront le sabbat de génération en génération. C’est un accord qui doit rester valable pour toujours.
      17 Le sabbat est un signe entre vous et moi pour toujours. En effet, j’ai créé le ciel et la terre en six jours. Mais le septième jour, je me suis arrêté pour me reposer.” »
      18 Quand Dieu a fini de parler avec Moïse sur le mont Sinaï, il lui donne les deux tablettes de pierre sur lesquelles il a écrit lui-même les commandements.

      Exode 32

      1 Le peuple voit que Moïse met du temps avant de descendre de la montagne. Alors les Israélites se réunissent près d’Aaron et lui disent : « Allez, fabrique-nous un dieu qui marche devant nous. En effet, nous ne savons pas ce qui est arrivé à Moïse, l’homme qui nous a fait sortir d’Égypte. »
      2 Aaron leur répond : « Prenez les anneaux en or qui sont aux oreilles de vos femmes, de vos fils et de vos filles. Apportez-les-moi ! »
      3 Tous les Israélites enlèvent les anneaux en or qui sont à leurs oreilles et ils les apportent à Aaron.
      4 Celui-ci les prend. Il les fait fondre dans un moule et il fabrique une statue de veau. Alors les Israélites disent : « Voici notre Dieu qui nous a fait sortir d’Égypte ! »
      5 Quand Aaron voit cela, il bâtit un autel devant la statue et il dit : « Demain, nous ferons une fête pour le SEIGNEUR. »
      6 Le jour suivant, tôt le matin, le peuple offre des sacrifices complets et ils apportent des sacrifices de communion. Les Israélites s’assoient pour manger et pour boire. Puis ils se lèvent pour s’amuser.
      7 Alors le SEIGNEUR dit à Moïse : « Descends tout de suite ! En effet, ton peuple, que tu as fait sortir d’Égypte, est tombé dans un grand péché.
      8 Très vite, ils ont quitté le chemin que je leur avais montré. Ils se sont fabriqué un veau en métal fondu. Ils se sont mis à genoux devant lui, et ils lui ont offert des sacrifices. Ensuite, ils ont dit : “Voici notre Dieu qui nous a fait sortir d’Égypte.”
      9 Eh bien, je le vois, ce peuple est un peuple à la tête dure !
      10 Maintenant, laisse-moi faire. Je vais me mettre en colère et je les détruirai ! Ensuite, je ferai naître de toi un grand peuple. »
      11 Mais Moïse demande avec force au SEIGNEUR son Dieu de calmer sa colère. Il lui dit : « Tu as utilisé ta puissance grande et terrible pour faire sortir d’Égypte ton peuple. Et maintenant, tu veux te mettre en colère contre ce peuple. Pourquoi donc ?
      12 Si tu agis ainsi, les Égyptiens vont dire : “Le SEIGNEUR est méchant. C’est pourquoi il a fait sortir les Israélites de notre pays. Il a voulu les tuer dans les montagnes et les faire disparaître de la terre.” SEIGNEUR, calme le feu de ta colère. Renonce à faire du mal à ton peuple.
      13 Souviens-toi de tes serviteurs Abraham, Isaac et Jacob. Tu leur as fait toi-même ce grand serment : “Je rendrai vos enfants et les enfants de leurs enfants aussi nombreux que les étoiles du ciel. Je leur donnerai le pays que j’ai promis, et ils le posséderont pour toujours.” »
      14 Alors le SEIGNEUR renonce au mal qu’il voulait faire à son peuple.
      15 Moïse descend de la montagne. Il tient les deux tablettes de pierre, gravées de chaque côté, où les paroles de l’alliance sont écrites.
      16 Ces tablettes sont le travail de Dieu. Dieu lui-même a écrit ses commandements sur elles.
      17 Josué entend les cris poussés par le peuple. Il dit à Moïse : « Il y a des bruits de guerre dans le camp. »
      18 Mais Moïse répond : « Non, ce ne sont pas des cris de victoire, ni des cris de défaite. Moi, j’entends des chants de fête. »
      19 En arrivant près du camp, Moïse voit le veau et le peuple qui danse. Il est rempli de colère. Il jette les tablettes de pierre qu’il tient dans ses mains et il les casse au bas de la montagne.
      20 Il prend la statue de veau que les Israélites ont faite et il la jette dans le feu. Puis il la réduit en poudre fine. Il met cette poudre dans de l’eau et il donne l’eau à boire aux Israélites.
      21 Ensuite Moïse dit à Aaron : « Tu as entraîné le peuple dans un péché très grave. Pourquoi donc ? Qu’est-ce que ce peuple t’a fait ? »
      22 Aaron répond : « Je t’en prie, ne te mets pas en colère ! Tu le sais bien, ce peuple fait le mal très facilement.
      23 Ils m’ont dit : “Fabrique-nous un dieu qui marche devant nous. En effet, nous ne savons pas ce qui est arrivé à Moïse, l’homme qui nous a fait sortir d’Égypte.”
      24 Alors je leur ai demandé : “Qui a de l’or ?” Ils ont arraché les bijoux de leurs oreilles et ils me les ont donnés. Je les ai fait fondre au feu, et voilà le veau qui en est sorti ! »
      25 Moïse comprend qu’Aaron a laissé le peuple faire ce qu’il voulait. Alors les ennemis peuvent facilement se moquer des Israélites.
      26 Moïse va donc se mettre à l’entrée du camp et il crie : « Ceux qui sont pour le SEIGNEUR, venez ici ! » Tous les hommes de la tribu de Lévi se réunissent autour de lui.
      27 Moïse leur dit : « Voici ce que le SEIGNEUR, Dieu d’Israël, commande : “Chacun de vous va prendre son épée. Vous passerez et repasserez dans le camp, d’un bout à l’autre. Vous tuerez vos frères, vos amis, vos voisins !” »
      28 Les lévites obéissent à Moïse, et 3 000 Israélites environ meurent ce jour-là.
      29 Alors Moïse dit aux lévites : « Aujourd’hui, vous avez été consacrés au service du SEIGNEUR. En effet, vous n’avez pas hésité à tuer même vos fils ou vos frères. Que le SEIGNEUR vous accorde donc sa bénédiction aujourd’hui ! »
      30 Le jour suivant, Moïse dit au peuple : « Vous avez commis un péché grave. Maintenant, je vais remonter vers le SEIGNEUR, sur la montagne. J’obtiendrai peut-être le pardon pour votre péché. »
      31 Moïse retourne vers le SEIGNEUR et il lui dit : « Hélas, SEIGNEUR, ce peuple a commis un péché grave ! Ils ont fabriqué un dieu en or.
      32 Pardonne-leur, je t’en prie ! Sinon, efface mon nom du livre de vie que tu as écrit. »
      33 Le SEIGNEUR répond : « Non, de mon livre, j’effacerai seulement le nom de ceux qui ont péché contre moi.
      34 Maintenant, va, conduis le peuple à l’endroit que je t’ai dit ! Mon ange ira devant toi. Et moi, le jour où j’agirai, je les punirai de leur péché. »
      35 Le SEIGNEUR punit donc les Israélites parce qu’ils ont demandé à Aaron de leur fabriquer une statue de veau.

      Exode 33

      1 Le SEIGNEUR dit à Moïse : « Allez, quittez ce lieu, toi et le peuple que tu as fait sortir d’Égypte. J’ai juré à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob de donner un pays aux enfants de leurs enfants. Allez donc là-bas.
      2 J’enverrai mon ange devant vous. Je chasserai les Cananéens, les Amorites, les Hittites, les Perizites, les Hivites et les Jébusites.
      3 Allez donc dans ce pays qui déborde de lait et de miel. Mais moi, je n’irai pas avec vous. En effet, vous êtes un peuple à la tête dure, et je risquerais de vous détruire en chemin. »
      4 Quand le peuple entend ces paroles de malheur, il est très triste. Plus personne ne porte ses habits de fête.
      5 Le SEIGNEUR dit à Moïse : « Dis aux Israélites : “Vous êtes un peuple à la tête dure. Si je vais avec vous une seule minute, je risquerai de vous détruire. Et maintenant, mettez de côté vos habits de fête. Je verrai ensuite ce que je dois faire.” »
      6 À partir du mont Horeb, les Israélites ne portent plus leurs habits de fête.
      7 Quand les Israélites installent leur camp, Moïse prend la tente sacrée et il la dresse en dehors du camp, assez loin. On l’appelle « la tente de la rencontre ». Tous ceux qui veulent consulter le SEIGNEUR sortent du camp et ils vont vers cette tente.
      8 Chaque fois que Moïse se rend à cet endroit, tout le monde se lève. Chacun reste à l’entrée de sa tente et il regarde Moïse jusqu’à ce qu’il entre dans la tente sacrée.
      9 Quand Moïse entre dans la tente, la colonne de fumée descend. Elle reste à l’entrée de la tente, et le SEIGNEUR parle avec Moïse.
      10 Tout le peuple voit la colonne de fumée qui s’arrête à l’entrée de la tente de la rencontre. Alors tous se lèvent, et chacun se met à genoux à l’entrée de sa tente.
      11 Le SEIGNEUR parle avec Moïse face à face, comme un homme parle avec un autre homme. Puis Moïse revient au camp. Mais son serviteur, le jeune Josué, fils de Noun, reste dans la tente sacrée.
      12 Moïse dit au SEIGNEUR : « Écoute, SEIGNEUR ! Tu m’as commandé de conduire ce peuple. Mais tu ne m’as pas fait connaître celui que tu vas envoyer pour m’aider. Pourtant, c’est toi qui m’as dit : “Je te connais par ton nom”, et aussi : “Je te montrerai ma bonté.”
      13 Et maintenant, puisque tu es bon pour moi, fais-moi connaître ce que tu veux. Ainsi, je te connaîtrai vraiment et je profiterai pleinement de ta bonté. N’oublie pas que ce peuple, c’est ton peuple. »
      14 Le SEIGNEUR répond à Moïse : « Je viendrai moi-même vous conduire. Tu n’as pas de souci à te faire. »
      15 Moïse continue : « Si tu ne viens pas toi-même avec nous, ne nous commande pas de quitter ce lieu.
      16 En effet, si tu ne nous accompagnes pas, comment savoir que tu es bon pour moi et pour ton peuple ? Oui, ce qui nous rend différents de tous les peuples de la terre, c’est que tu marches avec nous, avec ton peuple et avec moi. »
      17 Le SEIGNEUR répond à Moïse : « Ce que tu viens de dire, je le ferai. Oui, je vais te montrer ma bonté et je te connais par ton nom. »
      18 Alors Moïse dit au SEIGNEUR : « Je t’en prie, fais-moi voir ta gloire ! »
      19 Le SEIGNEUR lui répond : « Je vais passer devant toi. Je te montrerai toute ma bonté et je te dirai mon vrai nom, “LE SEIGNEUR”. Je serai bon avec qui je veux être bon et j’aurai pitié de qui je veux avoir pitié.
      20 Mais voir mon visage, c’est impossible. En effet, un être humain ne peut pas me voir et rester vivant. »
      21 Le SEIGNEUR dit encore : « Voici une place près de moi. Reste là sur le rocher.
      22 Alors quand ma gloire passera, je te cacherai dans le creux du rocher. Je te couvrirai de ma main pendant que je passerai.
      23 Puis j’enlèverai ma main, et tu me verras de dos. Mais mon visage, on ne peut pas le voir. »

      Exode 34

      1 Le SEIGNEUR dit à Moïse : « Taille deux tablettes de pierre, comme celles que tu as cassées. J’écrirai sur elles les paroles qui étaient sur les premières.
      2 Prépare-toi pour demain matin. Tu monteras très tôt sur le mont Sinaï et tu m’attendras là-bas, au sommet de la montagne.
      3 Personne ne doit monter avec toi, personne d’autre ne doit se montrer sur toute la montagne. Et aucun animal, mouton, chèvre ou vache, ne doit rester près de cet endroit. »
      4 Moïse taille deux nouvelles tablettes de pierre, comme les premières. Il se lève tôt le matin et il monte sur le Sinaï avec les deux tablettes, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a commandé.
      5 Le SEIGNEUR descend dans le nuage de fumée et il se tient là, auprès de Moïse. Moïse prononce son nom, « LE SEIGNEUR ».
      6 Ensuite, le SEIGNEUR passe devant Moïse et il dit d’une voix forte : « Je suis le SEIGNEUR. Oui, je suis un Dieu de pitié et de tendresse. Je suis patient, plein d’amour et de fidélité.
      7 Je montre ma bonté pendant des milliers de générations. Je supporte les fautes, les révoltes et les péchés. Mais le coupable, je ne le déclare pas innocent. J’agis contre celui qui a péché, contre ses enfants jusqu’à la troisième ou la quatrième génération. »
      8 Aussitôt Moïse s’incline et adore le SEIGNEUR.
      9 Puis il dit : « Seigneur, puisque tu te montres bon pour moi, je t’en prie, viens avec nous ! Je le sais, ces gens ont la tête dure. Mais pardonne nos fautes et nos péchés, et considère-nous comme ton peuple ! »
      10 Le SEIGNEUR dit à Moïse : « Je vais faire alliance avec vous. Devant tout ton peuple, je vais accomplir des choses merveilleuses. Il n’y a jamais eu d’aussi belles choses sur la terre, nulle part et dans aucun pays. Tous les Israélites qui t’entourent verront combien les actions que je vais accomplir avec toi sont extraordinaires.
      11 « Obéissez bien à ce que je vous commande aujourd’hui. Je vais chasser devant vous les Amorites, les Cananéens, les Hittites, les Perizites, les Hivites et les Jébusites.
      12 Attention ! Ne passez aucun accord avec les habitants du pays où vous allez. Vous seriez ainsi pris dans un piège.
      13 Au contraire, vous détruirez leurs autels, vous casserez leurs pierres dressées, vous couperez leurs poteaux sacrés.
      14 Vous n’adorerez aucun dieu étranger. En effet, moi, le SEIGNEUR, je m’appelle “Exigeant”. Oui, je suis exigeant.
      15 Ne passez donc aucun accord avec les habitants de ce pays. Sinon, quand ils se prostituent avec leurs dieux et leur offrent des sacrifices, ils pourraient vous inviter, et vous risqueriez de manger de leurs offrandes.
      16 Et si vous preniez parmi eux des femmes pour vos fils, celles-ci se prostitueraient avec leurs dieux et elles amèneraient vos fils à en faire autant.
      17 « Vous ne fabriquerez pas de statues de dieux en métal fondu.
      18 « Vous célébrerez la fête des Pains sans levain. Au cours du mois des Épis, pendant sept jours, vous mangerez des pains sans levain, comme je l’ai commandé. En effet, c’est au mois des Épis que vous êtes sortis d’Égypte.
      19 « Tous les premiers-nés sont à moi, même tous ceux de vos troupeaux : vous devez m’offrir le premier veau, le premier agneau, le premier cabri.
      20 Mais le premier petit de l’ânesse, vous le remplacerez par un mouton ou un cabri. Ou bien vous le tuerez en lui brisant le cou. Les fils aînés de votre peuple, vous les rachèterez. « Vous ne viendrez pas dans le lieu saint les mains vides.
      21 « Vous travaillerez pendant six jours, mais le septième jour, vous arrêterez de travailler, même au moment des labours ou des récoltes.
      22 « Vous célébrerez la fête des Moissons, au moment où vous récolterez les premiers épis de blé. À la fin de l’année, vous célébrerez la fête de la Récolte.
      23 « Trois fois par an, tous les hommes de votre peuple viendront se présenter devant moi, le Maître, le SEIGNEUR, Dieu d’Israël.
      24 Je chasserai devant vous les peuples du pays et j’agrandirai votre terre. Personne n’essaiera de prendre votre pays pendant les trois périodes de l’année où vous viendrez dans mon lieu saint.
      25 « Quand vous m’offrirez des animaux en sacrifice, vous n’apporterez pas de pain fait avec du levain. Vous ne garderez pas la viande de l’animal offert pour la fête de la Pâque du soir jusqu’au matin du jour suivant.
      26 Vous apporterez les premiers produits de vos champs à la maison du SEIGNEUR, votre Dieu. Vous ne ferez pas cuire un cabri dans le lait de sa mère. »
      27 Le SEIGNEUR dit encore à Moïse : « Écris ces commandements. Oui, c’est en accord avec ces paroles que j’ai fait alliance avec toi et avec le peuple d’Israël. »
      28 Moïse reste sur le mont Sinaï avec le SEIGNEUR 40 jours et 40 nuits, sans manger ni boire. Sur les tablettes de pierre, il écrit les paroles de l’alliance, les dix commandements.
      29 Moïse redescend de la montagne du Sinaï. Il tient en main les tablettes de l’alliance. La peau de son visage brille, parce que le SEIGNEUR a parlé avec lui. Mais Moïse ne le sait pas.
      30 Quand Aaron et tous les Israélites voient briller son visage, ils ont peur de l’approcher.
      31 Moïse les appelle. Alors Aaron et tous les chefs du peuple viennent à lui, et Moïse leur parle.
      32 Ensuite, tous les autres Israélites s’approchent. Et Moïse leur présente tous les commandements que le SEIGNEUR lui a donnés sur le mont Sinaï.
      33 Quand Moïse a fini de leur parler, il met un voile sur son visage.
      34 À partir de ce moment-là, quand il entre devant le SEIGNEUR pour parler avec lui, il enlève son voile. Et quand il sort pour donner aux Israélites les ordres reçus,
      35 les Israélites voient briller le visage de Moïse. Ensuite, Moïse remet le voile sur son visage et il le garde jusqu’à ce qu’il retourne parler avec Dieu.

      Exode 35

      1 Moïse rassemble toute la communauté d’Israël et il leur dit : « Voici les choses que le SEIGNEUR commande de faire :
      2 Vous travaillerez pendant six jours. Mais le septième jour, c’est le sabbat, le jour du repos. Vous devez le consacrer au SEIGNEUR. Si quelqu’un travaille ce jour-là, on le fera mourir.
      3 Vous n’allumerez même pas de feu le jour du sabbat, partout où vous habiterez. »
      4 Moïse continue de communiquer à toute la communauté d’Israël les commandements du SEIGNEUR :
      5 « Faites des dons pour le SEIGNEUR. Tous ceux qui le feront de bon cœur apporteront au SEIGNEUR toutes sortes de choses : or, argent, bronze,
      6 très belle laine violette, rouge clair ou rouge foncé, lin fin, poils de chèvre,
      7 peaux de béliers teintes en rouge, beau cuir, bois d’acacia,
      8 huile pour les lampes, parfums pour l’huile de consécration et pour le parfum à brûler,
      9 pierres rouges et autres pierres précieuses pour l’éfod et pour la pochette du grand-prêtre.
      10 Tous les artisans habiles parmi vous se réuniront pour fabriquer ce que le SEIGNEUR a commandé :
      11 le lieu saint avec la tente sacrée et sa couverture, ses agrafes, ses cadres, ses traverses, ses colonnes et ses supports ;
      12 le coffre sacré avec ses barres et son couvercle ; le rideau de séparation ;
      13 la table des pains avec ses barres, tous ses ustensiles et les pains offerts à Dieu ;
      14 le porte-lampes avec ses ustensiles, ses lampes et l’huile pour les lampes ;
      15 l’autel du parfum avec ses barres, l’huile de consécration, le parfum à brûler et le rideau d’entrée de la tente sacrée ;
      16 l’autel des sacrifices avec sa grille en bronze, ses barres et tous ses ustensiles ; le bassin pour les purifications avec son support ;
      17 les tentures de la cour avec leurs colonnes, leurs supports et le rideau pour l’entrée de la cour ;
      18 les piquets de la tente sacrée, les piquets de la clôture de la cour avec leurs cordes ;
      19 les vêtements de cérémonie pour le service de Dieu dans le lieu saint, et les vêtements sacrés qu’Aaron et ses fils porteront pour accomplir leur service de prêtres. »
      20 Les Israélites quittent Moïse.
      21 Ensuite, tous les volontaires et tous ceux qui ont le cœur généreux viennent apporter au SEIGNEUR leurs dons pour construire la tente de la rencontre, pour les cérémonies au service de Dieu et pour faire les vêtements sacrés.
      22 Les hommes et les femmes au cœur généreux viennent avec toutes sortes de bijoux en or : broches, boucles, anneaux ou colliers, et ils les offrent au SEIGNEUR avec le geste de présentation.
      23 Ceux qui possèdent de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair ou rouge foncé, du lin fin, des poils de chèvre, des peaux de béliers teintes en rouge ou du beau cuir, les apportent.
      24 Ceux qui ont mis de côté pour le SEIGNEUR de l’argent ou du bronze, l’apportent. Ceux qui possèdent du bois d’acacia utile pour faire les travaux, l’apportent.
      25 Des femmes très habiles ont filé de leurs mains du lin fin, de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair ou rouge foncé, et elles les apportent.
      26 D’autres femmes habiles filent les poils de chèvre.
      27 Les chefs de la communauté apportent les pierres rouges et les autres pierres précieuses pour l’éfod et la pochette du grand-prêtre.
      28 Ils apportent aussi les parfums et l’huile pour les lampes, pour l’huile de consécration et pour le parfum à brûler.
      29 Tous les Israélites au cœur généreux, hommes et femmes, apportent ainsi leurs dons volontaires au SEIGNEUR pour réaliser les travaux que le SEIGNEUR a commandés à Moïse.
      30 Moïse dit aux Israélites : « Voyez, le SEIGNEUR a choisi Bessalel, fils d’Ouri et petit-fils de Hour, de la tribu de Juda.
      31 Il l’a rempli de son esprit pour le rendre très habile et intelligent. Bessalel connaît toutes sortes de techniques :
      32 il sait faire de belles choses, il sait travailler l’or, l’argent et le bronze.
      33 Il sait tailler les pierres précieuses et les monter sur des objets, il sait sculpter le bois. En un mot, il sait tout faire.
      34 De plus, le SEIGNEUR lui a donné de savoir enseigner ces techniques. Il a fait ce don aussi à Oholiab, fils d’Ahissamak, de la tribu de Dan.
      35 Il les a rendus habiles pour faire les travaux suivants : tailler des pierres précieuses, dessiner, broder de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair ou rouge foncé, broder du lin fin et tisser. Ils sont capables de faire n’importe quel travail d’artisan et de créer de belles choses.

      Exode 36

      1 « Le SEIGNEUR a donné l’habileté et l’intelligence à Bessalel, à Oholiab et à d’autres artisans. Ainsi ils pourront faire les travaux nécessaires à son service dans le lieu saint. Ils feront donc tout ce que le SEIGNEUR a commandé. »
      2 Moïse fait venir Bessalel, Oholiab et les autres artisans. Le SEIGNEUR leur a donné une grande habileté, et ils acceptent de venir faire ces travaux.
      3 Moïse leur remet tout ce que les Israélites ont apporté pour construire le lieu saint. Tous les matins, les gens continuent d’apporter des dons volontaires.
      4 Alors tous les artisans qui construisent le lieu saint arrêtent leur travail. Ils vont
      5 dire à Moïse : « Les gens apportent trop de choses pour faire ce que le SEIGNEUR a commandé. »
      6 Aussitôt, Moïse commande de dire à travers tout le camp : « Plus personne, ni homme ni femme, ne doit préparer de dons pour le lieu saint. » Le peuple arrête alors d’apporter des dons.
      7 En effet, ils sont déjà suffisants pour faire les travaux. Il y en a même trop.
      8 Les artisans les plus habiles fabriquent la tente sacrée : ils font dix bandes de tissu, avec des fils de lin solides, mélangés avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé. Ils brodent dessus des chérubins.
      9 Toutes les bandes ont la même grandeur : 14 mètres sur 2 mètres.
      10 Ils mettent d’abord cinq bandes ensemble, puis les cinq autres.
      11 Ils fixent des attaches en laine violette au bord de la cinquième bande. Ils en mettent aussi au bord de la première des cinq autres bandes.
      12 Sur le côté droit des cinq premières bandes et sur le côté gauche des cinq autres bandes, ils fixent 50 attaches. Chaque attache est en face d’une autre.
      13 Ils fabriquent 50 agrafes en or. Puis ils accrochent les deux ensembles de cinq bandes avec les agrafes. Alors la tente sacrée forme un tout.
      14 Ensuite, ils font onze bandes de tissu en poils de chèvre, pour former une deuxième tente au-dessus de la tente sacrée.
      15 Toutes les bandes ont la même grandeur : 15 mètres sur 2 mètres.
      16 Ils mettent d’abord cinq bandes ensemble, puis les six autres.
      17 Ils fixent 50 attaches au bord de la cinquième bande et 50 attaches au bord de la première des six autres bandes.
      18 Ils fabriquent 50 agrafes en bronze pour attacher les deux ensembles de bandes. Alors cette tente forme un tout.
      19 Pour protéger la deuxième tente, ils fabriquent une couverture en peaux de béliers teintes en rouge, et une couverture en beau cuir par-dessus.
      20 Ensuite, ils fabriquent des cadres en bois d’acacia et ils les mettent debout pour soutenir la tente sacrée.
      21 Tous les cadres se ressemblent : chaque cadre a 5 mètres sur 75 centimètres. En bas, on laisse dépasser deux morceaux de bois parallèles.
      23 Ils fabriquent 20 cadres pour le côté sud de la tente
      24 et 40 supports en argent. Les cadres s’appuient sur eux. Chaque cadre a deux supports. Pour le faire tenir debout, on enfonce les deux morceaux de bois qui dépassent dans les deux supports.
      25 Pour le côté nord de la tente, ils fabriquent aussi 20 cadres
      26 avec 40 supports en argent. Chaque cadre s’appuie sur deux supports.
      27 Pour le fond de la tente, à l’ouest, ils fabriquent six cadres,
      28 plus deux cadres spéciaux pour les coins du fond.
      29 Ces deux cadres sont écartés en bas, mais ils se rejoignent en haut, dans le premier anneau. Tous les deux sont pareils et ils servent de cadres pour les coins de la tente.
      30 Le fond de la tente sacrée comprend donc huit cadres et seize supports en argent. Chaque cadre s’appuie sur deux supports.
      31 Ensuite, ils taillent des traverses en bois d’acacia : cinq pour tenir les cadres sur un côté de la tente sacrée,
      32 cinq pour les cadres de l’autre côté, cinq pour les cadres du fond, à l’ouest.
      33 La traverse du milieu passe à la moitié de la hauteur des cadres, d’un bout à l’autre de la tente.
      34 Ils recouvrent les cadres et les traverses avec de l’or. Ils fabriquent des anneaux en or dans lesquels les traverses entreront.
      35 Des artisans font un rideau avec des fils de lin solides, mélangés avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé. Ils brodent dessus des chérubins.
      36 Ils coupent quatre colonnes en bois d’acacia et ils les recouvrent d’or. On peut y fixer le rideau avec des crochets en or. Ces colonnes sont plantées sur quatre supports en argent.
      37 Pour l’entrée de la tente sacrée, des brodeurs font un autre rideau avec des fils de lin solides, mélangés avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé.
      38 Pour porter le rideau, ils fabriquent cinq colonnes avec leurs crochets et des tiges. Puis ils recouvrent d’or le haut des colonnes et les tiges. Les cinq supports sont en bronze.

      Exode 37

      1 Bessalel fabrique le coffre sacré en bois d’acacia. Il a 125 centimètres de long, 75 centimètres de large et 75 centimètres de haut.
      2 Bessalel le recouvre d’or pur à l’intérieur et à l’extérieur. Il met une bordure en or tout autour.
      3 Il fabrique quatre anneaux en or et il les fixe aux quatre coins du coffre : deux anneaux d’un côté, deux anneaux de l’autre.
      4 Il coupe deux barres en bois d’acacia et il les recouvre d’or.
      5 Il les passe dans les anneaux de chaque côté du coffre pour le transporter.
      6 Il fabrique le couvercle du coffre sacré en or pur. Il a 125 centimètres de long et 75 centimètres de large.
      7 Il fait deux chérubins en or battu aux deux bouts du couvercle.
      8 Ces deux chérubins forment une seule pièce avec le couvercle, à chaque bout.
      9 Ils sont l’un en face de l’autre et ils ont le visage tourné vers le couvercle. Leurs ailes sont ouvertes toutes grandes vers le haut et ils protègent ainsi le couvercle.
      10 Ensuite, Bessalel fabrique la table en bois d’acacia. Elle a 1 mètre de long, 50 centimètres de large et 75 centimètres de haut.
      11 Il la recouvre d’or pur et il fait une bordure en or tout autour.
      12 Sur les quatre côtés, il met un cadre de 8 centimètres de large et là aussi, il fabrique une bordure en or.
      13 Il fabrique quatre anneaux en or. Il les fixe aux quatre coins, près des quatre pieds.
      14 Les anneaux sont près du cadre. Il passe les barres dans les anneaux pour pouvoir transporter la table.
      15 Il coupe deux barres en bois d’acacia et il les recouvre d’or. Elles servent à transporter la table.
      16 Il fabrique en or pur des plats, des coupes, des récipients, des bols pour les offrandes de vin. Tous ces ustensiles seront placés sur la table.
      17 Bessalel fabrique un porte-lampes en or pur battu. Le pied et la tige, les coupes, les boutons et les fleurs forment une seule pièce.
      18 Six branches partent de la tige du milieu, trois branches à droite, trois branches à gauche.
      19 Sur chaque branche, il y a trois coupes en forme d’amande avec bouton et fleur.
      20 Sur la tige du milieu, il y a quatre coupes en forme d’amande, avec bouton et fleur.
      21 Il y a aussi un bouton sous les deux premières branches qui partent l’une à droite et l’autre à gauche de la tige du milieu. C’est la même chose pour les six branches qui sortent du porte-lampes.
      22 Les boutons et les branches forment une seule pièce avec le reste du porte-lampes. L’ensemble est en or pur battu.
      23 Bessalel fabrique sept lampes et aussi des pincettes pour le porte-lampes et des cendriers en or pur.
      24 Pour fabriquer le porte-lampes, les pincettes et les cendriers, il prend 30 kilos d’or pur.
      25 Ensuite, Bessalel fabrique l’autel en bois d’acacia pour brûler le parfum sacré. Cet autel est carré, il a 50 centimètres de côté et 1 mètre de haut. Ses coins sont relevés, mais ils forment une seule pièce avec l’autel.
      26 Il le recouvre entièrement d’or pur : le dessus avec les coins relevés et les quatre côtés. Il fabrique une bordure en or tout autour.
      27 Il fabrique deux anneaux en or et il les fixe de chaque côté de l’autel, au-dessus de la bordure. On passera des barres dans les anneaux pour le transporter.
      28 Bessalel coupe ces deux barres en bois d’acacia et il les recouvre d’or.
      29 Un parfumeur prépare l’huile de consécration et le parfum sacré qu’on brûle sur l’autel.

      Exode 38

      1 Ensuite, Bessalel fabrique un autel en bois d’acacia pour les sacrifices. Cet autel est carré. Chaque côté a 2 mètres et demi. Cet autel a 1 mètre et demi de haut.
      2 Ses quatre coins sont relevés, mais ils forment une seule pièce avec l’autel. Bessalel les recouvre de bronze.
      3 Il fabrique en bronze tous les ustensiles de l’autel : les récipients pour les cendres grasses de l’autel, les pelles, les coupes pour le sang, les fourchettes à viande et les brûle-parfums.
      4 Il fabrique une grille en bronze. Il la fixe autour de l’autel, sous sa bordure, depuis le bas jusqu’à mi-hauteur.
      5 Il fabrique quatre anneaux. Il les fixe aux quatre coins de la grille pour y faire entrer des barres.
      6 Il coupe deux barres en bois d’acacia et il les recouvre de bronze.
      7 Il les passe dans les anneaux, sur les côtés de l’autel, pour le transporter. Cet autel en planches est creux à l’intérieur.
      8 Ensuite, Bessalel fabrique le bassin en bronze avec son support en bronze. Pour cela, il utilise les miroirs de bronze des femmes qui sont de service à l’entrée de la tente de la rencontre.
      9 Autour de la tente sacrée, il y a un espace. Cette cour est limitée par des tentures tissées en fils de lin solides. Du côté sud, les tentures s’étendent sur 50 mètres.
      10 Elles sont fixées, avec des crochets et des tiges en argent, à 20 colonnes en bronze. Les colonnes sont plantées sur 20 supports en bronze.
      11 Du côté nord, les tentures s’étendent aussi sur 50 mètres. Elles sont fixées de la même façon.
      12 Du côté ouest, les tentures s’étendent sur 25 mètres. Elles sont fixées de la même façon à dix colonnes plantées sur dix supports.
      13 Du côté de l’entrée, à l’est, la cour a aussi 25 mètres de large.
      14 De chaque côté de l’entrée, il y a des tentures sur 7 mètres et demi, avec trois colonnes et trois supports.
      16 Toutes les tentures qui entourent la cour sont en lin solide.
      17 Les supports des colonnes sont en bronze, les crochets et les tiges sont en argent. Le haut des colonnes est recouvert d’argent. Des tiges en argent relient toutes les colonnes qui limitent la cour.
      18 Pour l’entrée de la cour, des brodeurs ont tissé le rideau en fils de lin solides, mélangés avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé. Ce rideau a 10 mètres de long et 2 mètres et demi de haut, comme les tentures de la cour.
      19 Il est fixé à quatre colonnes en bronze, plantées sur quatre supports en bronze. Les crochets sont en argent, les tiges et le haut des colonnes sont recouverts d’argent.
      20 Tous les piquets de la tente et de la clôture de la cour sont en bronze.
      21 Voici quelles sont les quantités de métaux utilisées pour la tente sacrée, qui doit abriter les tablettes de l’alliance. Comme Moïse l’a commandé, les lévites, dirigés par Itamar, le fils du prêtre Aaron, font ce calcul.
      22 Bessalel, fils d’Ouri et petit-fils de Hour, de la tribu de Juda, a fait tout ce que le SEIGNEUR a commandé à Moïse.
      23 Oholiab, fils d’Ahissamak, de la tribu de Dan, l’a aidé. Oholiab est tailleur de pierres précieuses, dessinateur, brodeur de très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé et brodeur de lin.
      24 Total de l’or donné par les Israélites et utilisé pour construire le lieu saint : 877 kilos et 300 grammes.
      25 Total de l’argent donné par les gens de la communauté qu’on a comptés : 3 017 kilos et 750 grammes.
      26 Les 603 550 hommes de 20 ans et plus qu’on a comptés ont donné chacun 5 grammes d’argent.
      27 Les artisans ont utilisé 3 000 kilos d’argent pour couler les 100 supports des colonnes du lieu saint et du rideau intérieur. Cela fait 30 kilos par support.
      28 Avec les 17 kilos et 750 grammes qui restaient, ils ont fabriqué les crochets des colonnes, ils ont recouvert leur sommet et fabriqué les tiges reliant les colonnes.
      29 Total du bronze donné par les Israélites : 2 124 kilos.
      30 Les artisans l’ont utilisé pour fabriquer les supports à l’entrée de la tente de la rencontre, l’autel en bronze avec sa grille en bronze, tous les ustensiles de l’autel,
      31 les supports de la clôture et de l’entrée de la cour, les piquets de la tente et de la clôture de la cour.

      Exode 39

      1 Avec la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé, des artisans font des vêtements de cérémonie pour le service du SEIGNEUR dans le lieu saint, ainsi que les vêtements sacrés d’Aaron, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a commandé à Moïse.
      2 Ils font l’éfod avec des fils de lin solides, mélangés avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé, et ils le brodent avec des fils d’or.
      3 Ils découpent des bandes très fines dans des feuilles d’or battu. Les brodeurs les mélangent avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé, et avec des fils de lin.
      4 Pour attacher l’éfod, ils cousent deux bretelles sur les côtés.
      5 La ceinture qui attache l’éfod forme une seule pièce avec lui, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a commandé à Moïse.
      6 Ils préparent les deux pierres précieuses rouges et ils les fixent dans des montures en or. Sur ces pierres, ils gravent les noms des fils de Jacob, comme on grave un sceau.
      7 Ils les mettent sur les bretelles de l’éfod, pour représenter les douze tribus d’Israël, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a commandé à Moïse.
      8 Des artisans font la pochette avec des fils de lin solides, mélangés avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé, et ils la brodent avec des fils d’or.
      9 C’est une pochette carrée, de 25 centimètres de côté.
      10 Ils la décorent avec quatre rangées de pierres précieuses : sur la première rangée, ils mettent une pierre rouge vif, une pierre jaune et une pierre bleu-vert.
      11 Sur la deuxième rangée, ils mettent une pierre rouge foncé, une pierre bleue et un diamant.
      12 Sur la troisième rangée, ils mettent une pierre orange, une pierre de plusieurs couleurs et une pierre violette.
      13 Sur la quatrième rangée, ils mettent une pierre vert clair, une pierre rouge et une pierre verte. Ils fixent chaque pierre sur une monture en or.
      14 Sur chaque pierre, ils ont gravé le nom d’un des douze fils de Jacob, comme on grave un sceau. Les douze pierres représentent les douze tribus d’Israël.
      15 Pour la pochette, ils tressent deux petites chaînes en or pur.
      16 Ils fabriquent aussi deux montures en or et deux anneaux en or, qu’ils fixent en haut de la pochette, aux deux coins.
      17 Ils attachent les deux petites chaînes en or aux deux anneaux de la pochette.
      18 Ils attachent l’autre bout des chaînes aux deux montures en or placées sur les bretelles de l’éfod pour que la pochette soit devant.
      19 Ils fabriquent deux autres anneaux en or et ils les fixent en bas de la pochette, aux deux coins, du côté de l’éfod.
      20 Ils fabriquent encore deux autres anneaux en or. Ils les fixent au bas des bretelles de l’éfod, devant, là où on les a cousues. Ils mettent ces anneaux au-dessus de la ceinture de l’éfod.
      21 Ils relient les anneaux de la pochette à ceux de l’éfod avec un cordon violet. Alors la pochette reste sur la ceinture et elle ne bouge pas sur l’éfod, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a commandé à Moïse.
      22 Le vêtement qui est sous l’éfod est entièrement tissé avec de la très belle laine violette.
      23 Pour passer la tête, il y a une ouverture. Des artisans tissent une bordure autour de cette ouverture et ils la rendent solide pour qu’elle ne se déchire pas.
      24 Ils décorent le bas du vêtement tout autour. Ils brodent des fruits appelés grenades avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé et avec des fils de lin solides.
      25 Ils fabriquent des petites cloches en or et ils les mettent aussi sur le bas du vêtement, tout autour, entre les grenades.
      26 Il y a une petite cloche en or, une grenade, puis une cloche et une grenade, et ainsi de suite, tout autour, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a commandé à Moïse.
      27 Des artisans tissent encore des vêtements en lin pour Aaron et ses fils.
      28 Ils tissent aussi des turbans en lin, le tissu en lin pour les tiares, les caleçons en lin solide.
      29 Ils tissent la ceinture brodée avec des fils de lin solides, mélangés avec de la très belle laine violette, rouge clair et rouge foncé, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a commandé à Moïse.
      30 Enfin, ils fabriquent l’insigne sacré, le bijou d’or pur en forme de fleur. Ils gravent sur lui « Consacré au SEIGNEUR », comme on grave un sceau.
      31 Ils fixent ce bijou avec un cordon violet sur le devant du turban sacré, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a commandé à Moïse.
      32 Voilà comment tous les travaux pour la tente sacrée, la tente de la rencontre, se terminent. Les Israélites ont fait exactement ce que le SEIGNEUR a commandé à Moïse.
      33 Ils apportent à Moïse tous les éléments de la tente sacrée : – la tente elle-même et tout ce qu’elle comprend : ses agrafes, ses cadres, ses traverses, ses colonnes et ses supports ;
      34 – la couverture en peaux de bélier teintes en rouge, la couverture en beau cuir et le rideau de séparation ;
      35 – le coffre contenant les tablettes de l’alliance, avec ses barres et son couvercle ;
      36 – la table des pains avec tous ses ustensiles et les pains offerts à Dieu ;
      37 – le porte-lampes en or pur avec sa rangée de lampes, tous ses ustensiles et l’huile pour les lampes ;
      38 – l’autel en or, l’huile de consécration et le parfum à brûler ; – le rideau pour l’entrée de la tente ;
      39 – l’autel en bronze avec sa grille en bronze, ses barres et ses ustensiles ; – le bassin pour les purifications, avec son support ;
      40 – les tentures de la cour avec leurs colonnes et leurs supports, le rideau pour l’entrée de la cour, avec ses cordes et ses piquets ; – tous les objets qui doivent être utilisés pour le service de la tente de la rencontre, la tente sacrée ;
      41 – les vêtements de cérémonie pour le service dans le lieu saint ; – les vêtements sacrés du grand-prêtre Aaron, et les vêtements que ses fils doivent porter pour accomplir leur service de prêtres.
      42 Les Israélites ont réalisé tout ce travail selon les ordres que le SEIGNEUR avait donnés à Moïse.
      43 Moïse voit tout le travail qu’ils ont réalisé, exactement comme le SEIGNEUR l’avait commandé. Alors il bénit les Israélites.

      Exode 40

      1 Le SEIGNEUR dit à Moïse :
      2 « Le premier jour du premier mois, tu feras dresser la tente de la rencontre, la tente sacrée.
      3 Tu y mettras le coffre contenant les tablettes de l’alliance, tu le cacheras derrière le rideau de séparation.
      4 Tu apporteras la table des pains et tu placeras dessus les pains offerts au SEIGNEUR. Tu apporteras le porte-lampes et tu allumeras les lampes.
      5 Tu mettras l’autel en or pour le parfum devant le coffre contenant les tablettes de l’alliance. Tu fixeras le rideau d’entrée de la tente sacrée.
      6 Tu mettras l’autel des sacrifices devant l’entrée de la tente de la rencontre, la tente sacrée.
      7 Tu mettras le bassin pour les purifications entre la tente de la rencontre et l’autel, et tu le rempliras d’eau.
      8 Tu mettras les tentures de la cour autour du lieu saint, et tu fixeras le rideau à l’entrée de la cour.
      9 « Tu prendras de l’huile de consécration et tu en verseras sur la tente sacrée et sur tout ce qu’elle contient. Tu la consacreras de cette façon avec tous ses ustensiles. Ensuite, elle sera vraiment à moi.
      10 Tu verseras aussi de l’huile sur l’autel des sacrifices et sur tous ses ustensiles. Tu le consacreras de cette façon pour qu’il soit uniquement réservé à mon service.
      11 Tu verseras aussi de l’huile sur le bassin et sur son support pour les consacrer.
      12 « Tu conduiras Aaron et ses fils à l’entrée de la tente de la rencontre et tu leur feras prendre un bain pour se rendre purs.
      13 Tu mettras à Aaron les vêtements sacrés. Tu verseras de l’huile sur sa tête, et tu le consacreras ainsi pour qu’il me serve comme prêtre.
      14 Tu diras aux fils d’Aaron de s’approcher. Tu leur mettras leurs vêtements.
      15 Tu les consacreras comme leur père, en versant de l’huile sur leur tête, pour qu’ils me servent comme prêtres. De cette façon, ils seront consacrés pour toujours comme prêtres, eux et les enfants de leurs enfants. »
      16 Moïse fait exactement tout ce que le SEIGNEUR lui a commandé.
      17 Le premier jour du premier mois, une année après le départ d’Égypte, on dresse la tente sacrée.
      18 Moïse fait dresser la tente : des artisans placent les supports, les cadres et les traverses et ils dressent les colonnes.
      19 Ils installent la deuxième tente au-dessus de la tente sacrée et ils la recouvrent d’une couverture, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a commandé à Moïse.
      20 Puis Moïse prend les tablettes de l’alliance et il les met dans le coffre sacré. Des artisans placent les barres du coffre et ils le recouvrent de son couvercle.
      21 Moïse fait entrer le coffre dans la tente sacrée. Puis des artisans fixent le rideau de séparation pour cacher le coffre contenant les tablettes de l’alliance, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a commandé à Moïse.
      22 Ils placent la table des pains dans la tente de la rencontre, du côté nord, devant le rideau de séparation.
      23 Ils posent sur elle les pains offerts au SEIGNEUR, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a commandé à Moïse.
      24 Ils mettent le porte-lampes dans la tente de la rencontre, du côté sud, en face de cette table.
      25 Ils allument les lampes devant le SEIGNEUR, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a commandé à Moïse.
      26 Ils placent l’autel en or dans la tente de la rencontre, devant le rideau de séparation.
      27 Ils font brûler sur l’autel le parfum, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a commandé à Moïse.
      28 Puis ils fixent le rideau à l’entrée de la tente sacrée.
      29 Ils placent l’autel des sacrifices près de l’entrée de la tente sacrée, la tente de la rencontre. Moïse offre sur lui un sacrifice complet et une offrande de produits de la terre, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a commandé.
      30 Des artisans posent le bassin entre la tente de la rencontre et l’autel, et ils le remplissent d’eau pour les purifications.
      31 Moïse, Aaron et ses fils se lavent les mains et les pieds dans le bassin.
      32 De cette façon, ils se rendent purs chaque fois qu’ils doivent entrer dans la tente de la rencontre, ou quand ils s’approchent de l’autel, comme le SEIGNEUR l’a commandé à Moïse.
      33 Moïse fait dresser les tentures de la cour autour de la tente sacrée et de l’autel. Des artisans fixent le rideau à l’entrée de la cour. Moïse finit les travaux de cette façon.
      34 Alors le nuage de fumée vient couvrir la tente de la rencontre, la gloire du SEIGNEUR remplit la tente sacrée.
      35 Moïse ne peut pas entrer dans la tente de la rencontre. En effet, le nuage de fumée reste sur elle, et la gloire du SEIGNEUR la remplit.
      36 Quand le nuage de fumée monte au-dessus de la tente sacrée, les Israélites se mettent en route pour une nouvelle étape.
      37 Mais si le nuage ne monte pas, ils ne partent pas. Ils attendent le jour où il monte de nouveau.
      38 Le nuage du SEIGNEUR repose sur la tente sacrée pendant le jour, un feu brille dans le nuage pendant la nuit. Les Israélites voient cela, tout au long de leur route.

      1 In the third month after the children of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that same day they came into the wilderness of Sinai.
      2 When they had departed from Rephidim, and had come to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel encamped before the mountain.
      3 Moses went up to God, and Yahweh called to him out of the mountain, saying, "This is what you shall tell the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:
      4 'You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings, and brought you to myself.
      5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice, and keep my covenant, then you shall be my own possession from among all peoples; for all the earth is mine;
      6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.' These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel."
      7 Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which Yahweh commanded him.
      8 All the people answered together, and said, "All that Yahweh has spoken we will do." Moses reported the words of the people to Yahweh.
      9 Yahweh said to Moses, "Behold, I come to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever." Moses told the words of the people to Yahweh.
      10 Yahweh said to Moses, "Go to the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments,
      11 and be ready against the third day; for on the third day Yahweh will come down in the sight of all the people on Mount Sinai.
      12 You shall set bounds to the people all around, saying, 'Be careful that you don't go up onto the mountain, or touch its border. Whoever touches the mountain shall be surely put to death.
      13 No hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot through; whether it is animal or man, he shall not live.' When the trumpet sounds long, they shall come up to the mountain."
      14 Moses went down from the mountain to the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.
      15 He said to the people, "Be ready by the third day. Don't have sexual relations with a woman."
      16 It happened on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain, and the sound of an exceedingly loud trumpet; and all the people who were in the camp trembled.
      17 Moses led the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the lower part of the mountain.
      18 Mount Sinai, all it, smoked, because Yahweh descended on it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.
      19 When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice.
      20 Yahweh came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain. Yahweh called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.
      21 Yahweh said to Moses, "Go down, warn the people, lest they break through to Yahweh to gaze, and many of them perish.
      22 Let the priests also, who come near to Yahweh, sanctify themselves, lest Yahweh break forth on them."
      23 Moses said to Yahweh, "The people can't come up to Mount Sinai, for you warned us, saying, 'Set bounds around the mountain, and sanctify it.'"
      24 Yahweh said to him, "Go down and you shall bring Aaron up with you, but don't let the priests and the people break through to come up to Yahweh, lest he break forth on them."
      25 So Moses went down to the people, and told them.

      Exode 20

      1 God spoke all these words, saying,
      2 "I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
      3 "You shall have no other gods before me.
      4 "You shall not make for yourselves an idol, nor any image of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
      5 you shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me,
      6 and showing loving kindness to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
      7 "You shall not take the name of Yahweh your God in vain, for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
      8 "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
      9 You shall labor six days, and do all your work,
      10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to Yahweh your God. You shall not do any work in it, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your livestock, nor your stranger who is within your gates;
      11 for in six days Yahweh made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day; therefore Yahweh blessed the Sabbath day, and made it holy.
      12 "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you.
      13 "You shall not murder.
      14 "You shall not commit adultery.
      15 "You shall not steal.
      16 "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
      17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's."
      18 All the people perceived the thunderings, the lightnings, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking. When the people saw it, they trembled, and stayed at a distance.
      19 They said to Moses, "Speak with us yourself, and we will listen; but don't let God speak with us, lest we die."
      20 Moses said to the people, "Don't be afraid, for God has come to test you, and that his fear may be before you, that you won't sin."
      21 The people stayed at a distance, and Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was.
      22 Yahweh said to Moses, "This is what you shall tell the children of Israel: 'You yourselves have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.
      23 You shall most certainly not make alongside of me gods of silver, or gods of gold for yourselves.
      24 You shall make an altar of earth for me, and shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your cattle. In every place where I record my name I will come to you and I will bless you.
      25 If you make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of cut stones; for if you lift up your tool on it, you have polluted it.
      26 Neither shall you go up by steps to my altar, that your nakedness may not be exposed to it.'

      Exode 21

      1 "Now these are the ordinances which you shall set before them.
      2 "If you buy a Hebrew servant, he shall serve six years and in the seventh he shall go out free without paying anything.
      3 If he comes in by himself, he shall go out by himself. If he is married, then his wife shall go out with him.
      4 If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself.
      5 But if the servant shall plainly say, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children. I will not go out free;'
      6 then his master shall bring him to God, and shall bring him to the door or to the doorpost, and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl, and he shall serve him for ever.
      7 "If a man sells his daughter to be a female servant, she shall not go out as the male servants do.
      8 If she doesn't please her master, who has married her to himself, then he shall let her be redeemed. He shall have no right to sell her to a foreign people, since he has dealt deceitfully with her.
      9 If he marries her to his son, he shall deal with her as a daughter.
      10 If he takes another wife to himself, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, and her marital rights.
      11 If he doesn't do these three things for her, she may go free without paying any money.
      12 "One who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death,
      13 but not if it is unintentional, but God allows it to happen: then I will appoint you a place where he shall flee.
      14 If a man schemes and comes presumptuously on his neighbor to kill him, you shall take him from my altar, that he may die.
      15 "Anyone who attacks his father or his mother shall be surely put to death.
      16 "Anyone who kidnaps someone and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.
      17 "Anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.
      18 "If men quarrel and one strikes the other with a stone, or with his fist, and he doesn't die, but is confined to bed;
      19 if he rises again and walks around with his staff, then he who struck him shall be cleared: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall provide for his healing until he is thoroughly healed.
      20 "If a man strikes his servant or his maid with a rod, and he dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished.
      21 Notwithstanding, if he gets up after a day or two, he shall not be punished, for he is his property.
      22 "If men fight and hurt a pregnant woman so that she gives birth prematurely, and yet no harm follows, he shall be surely fined as much as the woman's husband demands and the judges allow.
      23 But if any harm follows, then you must take life for life,
      24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
      25 burning for burning, wound for wound, and bruise for bruise.
      26 "If a man strikes his servant's eye, or his maid's eye, and destroys it, he shall let him go free for his eye's sake.
      27 If he strikes out his male servant's tooth, or his female servant's tooth, he shall let him go free for his tooth's sake.
      28 "If a bull gores a man or a woman to death, the bull shall surely be stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the bull shall not be held responsible.
      29 But if the bull had a habit of goring in the past, and it has been testified to its owner, and he has not kept it in, but it has killed a man or a woman, the bull shall be stoned, and its owner shall also be put to death.
      30 If a ransom is laid on him, then he shall give for the redemption of his life whatever is laid on him.
      31 Whether it has gored a son or has gored a daughter, according to this judgment it shall be done to him.
      32 If the bull gores a male servant or a female servant, thirty shekels of silver shall be given to their master, and the ox shall be stoned.
      33 "If a man opens a pit, or if a man digs a pit and doesn't cover it, and a bull or a donkey falls into it,
      34 the owner of the pit shall make it good. He shall give money to its owner, and the dead animal shall be his.
      35 "If one man's bull injures another's, so that it dies, then they shall sell the live bull, and divide its price; and they shall also divide the dead animal.
      36 Or if it is known that the bull was in the habit of goring in the past, and its owner has not kept it in, he shall surely pay bull for bull, and the dead animal shall be his own.

      Exode 22

      1 "If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and kills it, or sells it; he shall pay five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.
      2 If the thief is found breaking in, and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no guilt of bloodshed for him.
      3 If the sun has risen on him, guilt of bloodshed shall be for him; he shall make restitution. If he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.
      4 If the stolen property is found in his hand alive, whether it is ox, donkey, or sheep, he shall pay double.
      5 "If a man causes a field or vineyard to be eaten, and lets his animal loose, and it grazes in another man's field, he shall make restitution from the best of his own field, and from the best of his own vineyard.
      6 "If fire breaks out, and catches in thorns so that the shocks of grain, or the standing grain, or the field are consumed; he who kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.
      7 "If a man delivers to his neighbor money or stuff to keep, and it is stolen out of the man's house; if the thief is found, he shall pay double.
      8 If the thief isn't found, then the master of the house shall come near to God, to find out if he hasn't put his hand to his neighbor's goods.
      9 For every matter of trespass, whether it be for ox, for donkey, for sheep, for clothing, or for any kind of lost thing, about which one says, 'This is mine,' the cause of both parties shall come before God. He whom God condemns shall pay double to his neighbor.
      10 "If a man delivers to his neighbor a donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any animal to keep, and it dies or is injured, or driven away, no man seeing it;
      11 the oath of Yahweh shall be between them both, whether he hasn't put his hand to his neighbor's goods; and its owner shall accept it, and he shall not make restitution.
      12 But if it is stolen from him, he shall make restitution to its owner.
      13 If it is torn in pieces, let him bring it for evidence. He shall not make good that which was torn.
      14 "If a man borrows anything of his neighbor's, and it is injured, or dies, its owner not being with it, he shall surely make restitution.
      15 If its owner is with it, he shall not make it good. If it is a leased thing, it came for its lease.
      16 "If a man entices a virgin who isn't pledged to be married, and lies with her, he shall surely pay a dowry for her to be his wife.
      17 If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.
      18 "You shall not allow a sorceress to live.
      19 "Whoever has sex with an animal shall surely be put to death.
      20 "He who sacrifices to any god, except to Yahweh only, shall be utterly destroyed.
      21 "You shall not wrong an alien, neither shall you oppress him, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.
      22 "You shall not take advantage of any widow or fatherless child.
      23 If you take advantage of them at all, and they cry at all to me, I will surely hear their cry;
      24 and my wrath will grow hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.
      25 "If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you shall not be to him as a creditor; neither shall you charge him interest.
      26 If you take your neighbor's garment as collateral, you shall restore it to him before the sun goes down,
      27 for that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin. What would he sleep in? It will happen, when he cries to me, that I will hear, for I am gracious.
      28 "You shall not blaspheme God, nor curse a ruler of your people.
      29 "You shall not delay to offer from your harvest and from the outflow of your presses. "You shall give the firstborn of your sons to me.
      30 You shall do likewise with your cattle and with your sheep. Seven days it shall be with its mother, then on the eighth day you shall give it to me.
      31 "You shall be holy men to me, therefore you shall not eat any flesh that is torn by animals in the field. You shall cast it to the dogs.

      Exode 23

      1 "You shall not spread a false report. Don't join your hand with the wicked to be a malicious witness.
      2 "You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; neither shall you testify in court to side with a multitude to pervert justice;
      3 neither shall you favor a poor man in his cause.
      4 "If you meet your enemy's ox or his donkey going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again.
      5 If you see the donkey of him who hates you fallen down under his burden, don't leave him, you shall surely help him with it.
      6 "You shall not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits.
      7 "Keep far from a false charge, and don't kill the innocent and righteous: for I will not justify the wicked.
      8 "You shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds those who have sight and perverts the words of the righteous.
      9 "You shall not oppress an alien, for you know the heart of an alien, since you were aliens in the land of Egypt.
      10 "For six years you shall sow your land, and shall gather in its increase,
      11 but the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, that the poor of your people may eat; and what they leave the animal of the field shall eat. In the same way, you shall deal with your vineyard and with your olive grove.
      12 "Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may have rest, and the son of your handmaid, and the alien may be refreshed.
      13 "Be careful to do all things that I have said to you; and don't invoke the name of other gods, neither let them be heard out of your mouth.
      14 "You shall observe a feast to me three times a year.
      15 You shall observe the feast of unleavened bread. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month Abib (for in it you came out from Egypt), and no one shall appear before me empty.
      16 And the feast of harvest, the first fruits of your labors, which you sow in the field: and the feast of harvest, at the end of the year, when you gather in your labors out of the field.
      17 Three times in the year all your males shall appear before the Lord Yahweh.
      18 "You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread, neither shall the fat of my feast remain all night until the morning.
      19 The first of the first fruits of your ground you shall bring into the house of Yahweh your God. "You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk.
      20 "Behold, I send an angel before you, to keep you by the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.
      21 Pay attention to him, and listen to his voice. Don't provoke him, for he will not pardon your disobedience, for my name is in him.
      22 But if you indeed listen to his voice, and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and an adversary to your adversaries.
      23 For my angel shall go before you, and bring you in to the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Canaanite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; and I will cut them off.
      24 You shall not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor follow their practices, but you shall utterly overthrow them and demolish their pillars.
      25 You shall serve Yahweh your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from your midst.
      26 No one will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will fulfill the number of your days.
      27 I will send my terror before you, and will confuse all the people to whom you come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you.
      28 I will send the hornet before you, which will drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before you.
      29 I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate, and the animals of the field multiply against you.
      30 Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and inherit the land.
      31 I will set your border from the Red Sea even to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the River; for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.
      32 You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.
      33 They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me, for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you."

      Exode 24

      1 He said to Moses, "Come up to Yahweh, you, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship from a distance.
      2 Moses alone shall come near to Yahweh, but they shall not come near, neither shall the people go up with him."
      3 Moses came and told the people all the words of Yahweh, and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, and said, "All the words which Yahweh has spoken will we do."
      4 Moses wrote all the words of Yahweh, and rose up early in the morning, and built an altar under the mountain, and twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel.
      5 He sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of cattle to Yahweh.
      6 Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.
      7 He took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people, and they said, "All that Yahweh has spoken will we do, and be obedient."
      8 Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, "Look, this is the blood of the covenant, which Yahweh has made with you concerning all these words."
      9 Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up.
      10 They saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was like a paved work of sapphire stone, like the skies for clearness.
      11 He didn't lay his hand on the nobles of the children of Israel. They saw God, and ate and drank.
      12 Yahweh said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain, and stay here, and I will give you the tables of stone with the law and the commands that I have written, that you may teach them."
      13 Moses rose up with Joshua, his servant, and Moses went up onto God's Mountain.
      14 He said to the elders, "Wait here for us, until we come again to you. Behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever is involved in a dispute can go to them."
      15 Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.
      16 The glory of Yahweh settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. The seventh day he called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud.
      17 The appearance of the glory of Yahweh was like devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel.
      18 Moses entered into the midst of the cloud, and went up on the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

      Exode 25

      1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
      2 "Speak to the children of Israel, that they take an offering for me. From everyone whose heart makes him willing you shall take my offering.
      3 This is the offering which you shall take from them: gold, silver, brass,
      4 blue, purple, scarlet, fine linen, goats' hair,
      5 rams' skins dyed red, sea cow hides, acacia wood,
      6 oil for the light, spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense,
      7 onyx stones, and stones to be set for the ephod and for the breastplate.
      8 Let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.
      9 According to all that I show you, the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all of its furniture, even so you shall make it.
      10 "They shall make an ark of acacia wood. Its length shall be two and a half cubits, its breadth a cubit and a half, and a cubit and a half its height.
      11 You shall overlay it with pure gold. You shall overlay it inside and outside, and you shall make a gold molding around it.
      12 You shall cast four rings of gold for it, and put them in its four feet. Two rings shall be on the one side of it, and two rings on the other side of it.
      13 You shall make poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold.
      14 You shall put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry the ark.
      15 The poles shall be in the rings of the ark. They shall not be taken from it.
      16 You shall put the testimony which I shall give you into the ark.
      17 You shall make a mercy seat of pure gold. Two and a half cubits shall be its length, and a cubit and a half its breadth.
      18 You shall make two cherubim of hammered gold. You shall make them at the two ends of the mercy seat.
      19 Make one cherub at the one end, and one cherub at the other end. You shall make the cherubim on its two ends of one piece with the mercy seat.
      20 The cherubim shall spread out their wings upward, covering the mercy seat with their wings, with their faces toward one another. The faces of the cherubim shall be toward the mercy seat.
      21 You shall put the mercy seat on top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the testimony that I will give you.
      22 There I will meet with you, and I will tell you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the testimony, all that I command you for the children of Israel.
      23 "You shall make a table of acacia wood. Two cubits shall be its length, and a cubit its breadth, and one and a half cubits its height.
      24 You shall overlay it with pure gold, and make a gold molding around it.
      25 You shall make a rim of a handbreadth around it. You shall make a golden molding on its rim around it.
      26 You shall make four rings of gold for it, and put the rings in the four corners that are on its four feet.
      27 the rings shall be close to the rim, for places for the poles to carry the table.
      28 You shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold, that the table may be carried with them.
      29 You shall make its dishes, its spoons, its ladles, and its bowls to pour out offerings with. You shall make them of pure gold.
      30 You shall set bread of the presence on the table before me always.
      31 "You shall make a lampstand of pure gold. Of hammered work shall the lampstand be made, even its base, its shaft, its cups, its buds, and its flowers, shall be of one piece with it.
      32 There shall be six branches going out of its sides: three branches of the lampstand out of its one side, and three branches of the lampstand out of its other side;
      33 three cups made like almond blossoms in one branch, a bud and a flower; and three cups made like almond blossoms in the other branch, a bud and a flower, so for the six branches going out of the lampstand;
      34 and in the lampstand four cups made like almond blossoms, its buds and its flowers;
      35 and a bud under two branches of one piece with it, and a bud under two branches of one piece with it, and a bud under two branches of one piece with it, for the six branches going out of the lampstand.
      36 Their buds and their branches shall be of one piece with it, all of it one beaten work of pure gold.
      37 You shall make its lamps seven, and they shall light its lamps to give light to the space in front of it.
      38 Its snuffers and its snuff dishes shall be of pure gold.
      39 It shall be made of a talent of pure gold, with all these accessories.
      40 See that you make them after their pattern, which has been shown to you on the mountain.

      Exode 26

      1 "Moreover you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains; of fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, with cherubim. The work of the skillful workman you shall make them.
      2 The length of each curtain shall be twenty-eight cubits, and the breadth of each curtain four cubits: all the curtains shall have one measure.
      3 Five curtains shall be coupled together one to another; and the other five curtains shall be coupled one to another.
      4 You shall make loops of blue on the edge of the one curtain from the edge in the coupling; and likewise you shall make in the edge of the curtain that is outmost in the second coupling.
      5 You shall make fifty loops in the one curtain, and you shall make fifty loops in the edge of the curtain that is in the second coupling. The loops shall be opposite one to another.
      6 You shall make fifty clasps of gold, and couple the curtains one to another with the clasps: and the tabernacle shall be a unit.
      7 "You shall make curtains of goats' hair for a covering over the tabernacle. You shall make them eleven curtains.
      8 The length of each curtain shall be thirty cubits, and the breadth of each curtain four cubits: the eleven curtains shall have one measure.
      9 You shall couple five curtains by themselves, and six curtains by themselves, and shall double over the sixth curtain in the forefront of the tent.
      10 You shall make fifty loops on the edge of the one curtain that is outmost in the coupling, and fifty loops on the edge of the curtain which is outmost in the second coupling.
      11 You shall make fifty clasps of brass, and put the clasps into the loops, and couple the tent together, that it may be one.
      12 The overhanging part that remains of the curtains of the tent, the half curtain that remains, shall hang over the back of the tabernacle.
      13 The cubit on the one side, and the cubit on the other side, of that which remains in the length of the curtains of the tent, shall hang over the sides of the tabernacle on this side and on that side, to cover it.
      14 You shall make a covering for the tent of rams' skins dyed red, and a covering of sea cow hides above.
      15 "You shall make the boards for the tabernacle of acacia wood, standing up.
      16 Ten cubits shall be the length of a board, and one and a half cubits the breadth of each board.
      17 There shall be two tenons in each board, joined to one another: thus you shall make for all the boards of the tabernacle.
      18 You shall make the boards for the tabernacle, twenty boards for the south side southward.
      19 You shall make forty sockets of silver under the twenty boards; two sockets under one board for its two tenons, and two sockets under another board for its two tenons.
      20 For the second side of the tabernacle, on the north side, twenty boards,
      21 and their forty sockets of silver; two sockets under one board, and two sockets under another board.
      22 For the far part of the tabernacle westward you shall make six boards.
      23 You shall make two boards for the corners of the tabernacle in the far part.
      24 They shall be double beneath, and in the same way they shall be whole to its top to one ring: thus shall it be for them both; they shall be for the two corners.
      25 There shall be eight boards, and their sockets of silver, sixteen sockets; two sockets under one board, and two sockets under another board.
      26 "You shall make bars of acacia wood: five for the boards of the one side of the tabernacle,
      27 and five bars for the boards of the other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the boards of the side of the tabernacle, for the far part westward.
      28 The middle bar in the midst of the boards shall pass through from end to end.
      29 You shall overlay the boards with gold, and make their rings of gold for places for the bars: and you shall overlay the bars with gold.
      30 You shall set up the tabernacle according to the way that it was shown to you on the mountain.
      31 "You shall make a veil of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, with cherubim. The work of the skillful workman shall it be made.
      32 You shall hang it on four pillars of acacia overlaid with gold; their hooks shall be of gold, on four sockets of silver.
      33 You shall hang up the veil under the clasps, and shall bring the ark of the testimony in there within the veil: and the veil shall separate the holy place from the most holy for you.
      34 You shall put the mercy seat on the ark of the testimony in the most holy place.
      35 You shall set the table outside the veil, and the lampstand over against the table on the side of the tabernacle toward the south: and you shall put the table on the north side.
      36 "You shall make a screen for the door of the Tent, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, the work of the embroiderer.
      37 You shall make for the screen five pillars of acacia, and overlay them with gold: their hooks shall be of gold: and you shall cast five sockets of brass for them.

      Exode 27

      1 "You shall make the altar of acacia wood, five cubits long, and five cubits broad; the altar shall be foursquare: and its height shall be three cubits.
      2 You shall make its horns on its four corners; its horns shall be of one piece with it; and you shall overlay it with brass.
      3 You shall make its pots to take away its ashes, its shovels, its basins, its flesh hooks, and its fire pans: all its vessels you shall make of brass.
      4 You shall make a grating for it of network of brass: and on the net you shall make four bronze rings in its four corners.
      5 You shall put it under the ledge around the altar beneath, that the net may reach halfway up the altar.
      6 You shall make poles for the altar, poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with brass.
      7 Its poles shall be put into the rings, and the poles shall be on the two sides of the altar, when carrying it.
      8 You shall make it with hollow planks. They shall make it as it has been shown you on the mountain.
      9 "You shall make the court of the tabernacle: for the south side southward there shall be hangings for the court of fine twined linen one hundred cubits long for one side:
      10 and its pillars shall be twenty, and their sockets twenty, of brass; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets shall be of silver.
      11 Likewise for the north side in length there shall be hangings one hundred cubits long, and its pillars twenty, and their sockets twenty, of brass; the hooks of the pillars, and their fillets, of silver.
      12 For the breadth of the court on the west side shall be hangings of fifty cubits; their pillars ten, and their sockets ten.
      13 The breadth of the court on the east side eastward shall be fifty cubits.
      14 The hangings for the one side of the gate shall be fifteen cubits; their pillars three, and their sockets three.
      15 For the other side shall be hangings of fifteen cubits; their pillars three, and their sockets three.
      16 For the gate of the court shall be a screen of twenty cubits, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, the work of the embroiderer; their pillars four, and their sockets four.
      17 All the pillars of the court around shall be filleted with silver; their hooks of silver, and their sockets of brass.
      18 The length of the court shall be one hundred cubits, and the breadth fifty every where, and the height five cubits, of fine twined linen, and their sockets of brass.
      19 All the instruments of the tabernacle in all its service, and all its pins, and all the pins of the court, shall be of brass.
      20 "You shall command the children of Israel, that they bring to you pure olive oil beaten for the light, to cause a lamp to burn continually.
      21 In the Tent of Meeting, outside the veil which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall keep it in order from evening to morning before Yahweh: it shall be a statute forever throughout their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.

      Exode 28

      1 "Bring Aaron your brother, and his sons with him, near to you from among the children of Israel, that he may minister to me in the priest's office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron's sons.
      2 You shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty.
      3 You shall speak to all who are wise-hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they make Aaron's garments to sanctify him, that he may minister to me in the priest's office.
      4 These are the garments which they shall make: a breastplate, and an ephod, and a robe, and a coat of checker work, a turban, and a sash: and they shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, and his sons, that he may minister to me in the priest's office.
      5 They shall take the gold, and the blue, and the purple, and the scarlet, and the fine linen.
      6 "They shall make the ephod of gold, of blue, and purple, scarlet, and fine twined linen, the work of the skillful workman.
      7 It shall have two shoulder straps joined to the two ends of it, that it may be joined together.
      8 The skillfully woven band, which is on it, that is on him, shall be like its work and of the same piece; of gold, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen.
      9 You shall take two onyx stones, and engrave on them the names of the children of Israel:
      10 six of their names on the one stone, and the names of the six that remain on the other stone, in the order of their birth.
      11 With the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a signet, you shall engrave the two stones, according to the names of the children of Israel: you shall make them to be enclosed in settings of gold.
      12 You shall put the two stones on the shoulder straps of the ephod, to be stones of memorial for the children of Israel: and Aaron shall bear their names before Yahweh on his two shoulders for a memorial.
      13 You shall make settings of gold,
      14 and two chains of pure gold; you shall make them like cords of braided work: and you shall put the braided chains on the settings.
      15 "You shall make a breastplate of judgment, the work of the skillful workman; like the work of the ephod you shall make it; of gold, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, you shall make it.
      16 It shall be square and folded double; a span shall be its length of it, and a span its breadth.
      17 You shall set in it settings of stones, four rows of stones: a row of ruby, topaz, and beryl shall be the first row;
      18 and the second row a turquoise, a sapphire , and an emerald;
      19 and the third row a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;
      20 and the fourth row a chrysolite, an onyx, and a jasper: they shall be enclosed in gold in their settings.
      21 The stones shall be according to the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names; like the engravings of a signet, everyone according to his name, they shall be for the twelve tribes.
      22 You shall make on the breastplate chains like cords, of braided work of pure gold.
      23 You shall make on the breastplate two rings of gold, and shall put the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate.
      24 You shall put the two braided chains of gold in the two rings at the ends of the breastplate.
      25 The other two ends of the two braided chains you shall put on the two settings, and put them on the shoulder straps of the ephod in its forepart.
      26 You shall make two rings of gold, and you shall put them on the two ends of the breastplate, on its edge, which is toward the side of the ephod inward.
      27 You shall make two rings of gold, and shall put them on the two shoulder straps of the ephod underneath, in its forepart, close by its coupling, above the skillfully woven band of the ephod.
      28 They shall bind the breastplate by its rings to the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue, that it may be on the skillfully woven band of the ephod, and that the breastplate may not swing out from the ephod.
      29 Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment on his heart, when he goes in to the holy place, for a memorial before Yahweh continually.
      30 You shall put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be on Aaron's heart, when he goes in before Yahweh: and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel on his heart before Yahweh continually.
      31 "You shall make the robe of the ephod all of blue.
      32 It shall have a hole for the head in its midst: it shall have a binding of woven work around its hole, as it were the hole of a coat of mail, that it not be torn.
      33 On its hem you shall make pomegranates of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, around its hem; and bells of gold between and around them:
      34 a golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, around the hem of the robe.
      35 It shall be on Aaron to minister: and its sound shall be heard when he goes in to the holy place before Yahweh, and when he comes out, that he not die.
      36 "You shall make a plate of pure gold, and engrave on it, like the engravings of a signet, 'HOLY TO YAHWEH.'
      37 You shall put it on a lace of blue, and it shall be on the sash; on the front of the sash it shall be.
      38 It shall be on Aaron's forehead, and Aaron shall bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the children of Israel shall make holy in all their holy gifts; and it shall be always on his forehead, that they may be accepted before Yahweh.
      39 You shall weave the coat in checker work of fine linen, and you shall make a turban of fine linen, and you shall make a sash, the work of the embroiderer.
      40 "You shall make coats for Aaron's sons, and you shall make sashes for them and you shall make headbands for them, for glory and for beauty.
      41 You shall put them on Aaron your brother, and on his sons with him, and shall anoint them, and consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister to me in the priest's office.
      42 You shall make them linen breeches to cover the flesh of their nakedness; from the waist even to the thighs they shall reach:
      43 They shall be on Aaron, and on his sons, when they go in to the Tent of Meeting, or when they come near to the altar to minister in the holy place; that they don't bear iniquity, and die: it shall be a statute forever to him and to his descendants after him.

      Exode 29

      1 "This is the thing that you shall do to them to make them holy, to minister to me in the priest's office: take one young bull and two rams without blemish,
      2 unleavened bread, unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil: you shall make them of fine wheat flour.
      3 You shall put them into one basket, and bring them in the basket, with the bull and the two rams.
      4 You shall bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and shall wash them with water.
      5 You shall take the garments, and put on Aaron the coat, the robe of the ephod, the ephod, and the breastplate, and clothe him with the skillfully woven band of the ephod;
      6 and you shall set the turban on his head, and put the holy crown on the turban.
      7 Then you shall take the anointing oil, and pour it on his head, and anoint him.
      8 You shall bring his sons, and put coats on them.
      9 You shall clothe them with belts, Aaron and his sons, and bind headbands on them: and they shall have the priesthood by a perpetual statute: and you shall consecrate Aaron and his sons.
      10 "You shall bring the bull before the Tent of Meeting: and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the bull.
      11 You shall kill the bull before Yahweh, at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
      12 You shall take of the blood of the bull, and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger; and you shall pour out all the blood at the base of the altar.
      13 You shall take all the fat that covers the innards, the cover of the liver, the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them, and burn them on the altar.
      14 But the flesh of the bull, and its skin, and its dung, you shall burn with fire outside of the camp: it is a sin offering.
      15 "You shall also take the one ram; and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram.
      16 You shall kill the ram, and you shall take its blood, and sprinkle it around on the altar.
      17 You shall cut the ram into its pieces, and wash its innards, and its legs, and put them with its pieces, and with its head.
      18 You shall burn the whole ram on the altar: it is a burnt offering to Yahweh; it is a pleasant aroma, an offering made by fire to Yahweh.
      19 "You shall take the other ram; and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram.
      20 Then you shall kill the ram, and take some of its blood, and put it on the tip of the right ear of Aaron, and on the tip of the right ear of his sons, and on the thumb of their right hand, and on the big toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood around on the altar.
      21 You shall take of the blood that is on the altar, and of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron, and on his garments, and on his sons, and on the garments of his sons with him: and he shall be made holy, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons' garments with him.
      22 Also you shall take some of the ram's fat, the fat tail, the fat that covers the innards, the cover of the liver, the two kidneys, the fat that is on them, and the right thigh (for it is a ram of consecration),
      23 and one loaf of bread, one cake of oiled bread, and one wafer out of the basket of unleavened bread that is before Yahweh.
      24 You shall put all of this in Aaron's hands, and in his sons' hands, and shall wave them for a wave offering before Yahweh.
      25 You shall take them from their hands, and burn them on the altar on the burnt offering, for a pleasant aroma before Yahweh: it is an offering made by fire to Yahweh.
      26 "You shall take the breast of Aaron's ram of consecration, and wave it for a wave offering before Yahweh: and it shall be your portion.
      27 You shall sanctify the breast of the wave offering, and the thigh of the wave offering, which is waved, and which is heaved up, of the ram of consecration, even of that which is for Aaron, and of that which is for his sons:
      28 and it shall be for Aaron and his sons as their portion forever from the children of Israel; for it is a wave offering: and it shall be a wave offering from the children of Israel of the sacrifices of their peace offerings, even their wave offering to Yahweh.
      29 "The holy garments of Aaron shall be for his sons after him, to be anointed in them, and to be consecrated in them.
      30 Seven days shall the son who is priest in his place put them on, when he comes into the Tent of Meeting to minister in the holy place.
      31 "You shall take the ram of consecration, and boil its flesh in a holy place.
      32 Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram, and the bread that is in the basket, at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
      33 They shall eat those things with which atonement was made, to consecrate and sanctify them: but a stranger shall not eat of it, because they are holy.
      34 If anything of the flesh of the consecration, or of the bread, remains to the morning, then you shall burn the remainder with fire: it shall not be eaten, because it is holy.
      35 "You shall do so to Aaron, and to his sons, according to all that I have commanded you. You shall consecrate them seven days.
      36 Every day you shall offer the bull of sin offering for atonement: and you shall cleanse the altar, when you make atonement for it; and you shall anoint it, to sanctify it.
      37 Seven days you shall make atonement for the altar, and sanctify it: and the altar shall be most holy; whatever touches the altar shall be holy.
      38 "Now this is that which you shall offer on the altar: two lambs a year old day by day continually.
      39 The one lamb you shall offer in the morning; and the other lamb you shall offer at evening:
      40 and with the one lamb a tenth part of an ephah of fine flour mixed with the fourth part of a hin of beaten oil, and the fourth part of a hin of wine for a drink offering.
      41 The other lamb you shall offer at evening, and shall do to it according to the meal offering of the morning, and according to its drink offering, for a pleasant aroma, an offering made by fire to Yahweh.
      42 It shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of the Tent of Meeting before Yahweh, where I will meet with you, to speak there to you.
      43 There I will meet with the children of Israel; and the place shall be sanctified by my glory.
      44 I will sanctify the Tent of Meeting and the altar: Aaron also and his sons I will sanctify, to minister to me in the priest's office.
      45 I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will be their God.
      46 They shall know that I am Yahweh their God, who brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, that I might dwell among them: I am Yahweh their God.

      Exode 30

      1 "You shall make an altar to burn incense on. You shall make it of acacia wood.
      2 Its length shall be a cubit, and its breadth a cubit. It shall be square, and its height shall be two cubits. Its horns shall be of one piece with it.
      3 You shall overlay it with pure gold, its top, its sides around it, and its horns; and you shall make a gold molding around it.
      4 You shall make two golden rings for it under its molding; on its two ribs, on its two sides you shall make them; and they shall be for places for poles with which to bear it.
      5 You shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold.
      6 You shall put it before the veil that is by the ark of the testimony, before the mercy seat that is over the testimony, where I will meet with you.
      7 Aaron shall burn incense of sweet spices on it every morning. When he tends the lamps, he shall burn it.
      8 When Aaron lights the lamps at evening, he shall burn it, a perpetual incense before Yahweh throughout your generations.
      9 You shall offer no strange incense on it, nor burnt offering, nor meal offering; and you shall pour no drink offering on it.
      10 Aaron shall make atonement on its horns once in the year; with the blood of the sin offering of atonement once in the year he shall make atonement for it throughout your generations. It is most holy to Yahweh."
      11 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
      12 "When you take a census of the children of Israel, according to those who are numbered among them, then each man shall give a ransom for his soul to Yahweh, when you number them; that there be no plague among them when you number them.
      13 They shall give this, everyone who passes over to those who are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary; (the shekel is twenty gerahs;) half a shekel for an offering to Yahweh.
      14 Everyone who passes over to those who are numbered, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the offering to Yahweh.
      15 The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than the half shekel, when they give the offering of Yahweh, to make atonement for your souls.
      16 You shall take the atonement money from the children of Israel, and shall appoint it for the service of the Tent of Meeting; that it may be a memorial for the children of Israel before Yahweh, to make atonement for your souls."
      17 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
      18 "You shall also make a basin of brass, and its base of brass, in which to wash. You shall put it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it.
      19 Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet in it.
      20 When they go into the Tent of Meeting, they shall wash with water, that they not die; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn an offering made by fire to Yahweh.
      21 So they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they not die: and it shall be a statute forever to them, even to him and to his descendants throughout their generations."
      22 Moreover Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
      23 "Also take fine spices: of liquid myrrh, five hundred shekels; and of fragrant cinnamon half as much, even two hundred and fifty; and of fragrant cane, two hundred and fifty;
      24 and of cassia five hundred, after the shekel of the sanctuary; and a hin of olive oil.
      25 You shall make it a holy anointing oil, a perfume compounded after the art of the perfumer: it shall be a holy anointing oil.
      26 You shall use it to anoint the Tent of Meeting, the ark of the testimony,
      27 the table and all its articles, the lampstand and its accessories, the altar of incense,
      28 the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin with its base.
      29 You shall sanctify them, that they may be most holy. Whatever touches them shall be holy.
      30 You shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and sanctify them, that they may minister to me in the priest's office.
      31 You shall speak to the children of Israel, saying, 'This shall be a holy anointing oil to me throughout your generations.
      32 It shall not be poured on man's flesh, neither shall you make any like it, according to its composition: it is holy. It shall be holy to you.
      33 Whoever compounds any like it, or whoever puts any of it on a stranger, he shall be cut off from his people.'"
      34 Yahweh said to Moses, "Take to yourself sweet spices, gum resin, and onycha, and galbanum; sweet spices with pure frankincense: there shall be an equal weight of each;
      35 and you shall make incense of it, a perfume after the art of the perfumer, seasoned with salt, pure and holy:
      36 and you shall beat some of it very small, and put some of it before the testimony in the Tent of Meeting, where I will meet with you. It shall be to you most holy.
      37 The incense which you shall make, according to its composition you shall not make for yourselves: it shall be to you holy for Yahweh.
      38 Whoever shall make any like that, to smell of it, he shall be cut off from his people."

      Exode 31

      1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
      2 "Behold, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah:
      3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all kinds of workmanship,
      4 to devise skillful works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass,
      5 and in cutting of stones for setting, and in carving of wood, to work in all kinds of workmanship.
      6 I, behold, I have appointed with him Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and in the heart of all who are wise-hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded you:
      7 the Tent of Meeting, the ark of the testimony, the mercy seat that is on it, all the furniture of the Tent,
      8 the table and its vessels, the pure lampstand with all its vessels, the altar of incense,
      9 the altar of burnt offering with all its vessels, the basin and its base,
      10 the finely worked garments--the holy garments for Aaron the priest--the garments of his sons to minister in the priest's office,
      11 the anointing oil, and the incense of sweet spices for the holy place: according to all that I have commanded you they shall do."
      12 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
      13 "Speak also to the children of Israel, saying, 'Most certainly you shall keep my Sabbaths: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that you may know that I am Yahweh who sanctifies you.
      14 You shall keep the Sabbath therefore; for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
      15 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to Yahweh. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day shall surely be put to death.
      16 Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
      17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days Yahweh made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.'"
      18 He gave to Moses, when he finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, the two tablets of the testimony, stone tablets, written with God's finger.

      Exode 32

      1 When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron, and said to him, "Come, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don't know what has become of him."
      2 Aaron said to them, "Take off the golden rings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them to me."
      3 All the people took off the golden rings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron.
      4 He received what they handed him, and fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it a molten calf; and they said, "These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt."
      5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made a proclamation, and said, "Tomorrow shall be a feast to Yahweh."
      6 They rose up early on the next day, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
      7 Yahweh spoke to Moses, "Go, get down; for your people, who you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves!
      8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molten calf, and have worshiped it, and have sacrificed to it, and said, 'These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.'"
      9 Yahweh said to Moses, "I have seen these people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people.
      10 Now therefore leave me alone, that my wrath may burn hot against them, and that I may consume them; and I will make of you a great nation."
      11 Moses begged Yahweh his God, and said, "Yahweh, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, that you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?
      12 Why should the Egyptians speak, saying, 'He brought them forth for evil, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the surface of the earth?' Turn from your fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against your people.
      13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, 'I will multiply your seed as the stars of the sky, and all this land that I have spoken of I will give to your seed, and they shall inherit it forever.'"
      14 Yahweh repented of the evil which he said he would do to his people.
      15 Moses turned, and went down from the mountain, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand; tablets that were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other they were written.
      16 The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tables.
      17 When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, "There is the noise of war in the camp."
      18 He said, "It isn't the voice of those who shout for victory, neither is it the voice of those who cry for being overcome; but the noise of those who sing that I hear."
      19 It happened, as soon as he came near to the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing: and Moses' anger grew hot, and he threw the tablets out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mountain.
      20 He took the calf which they had made, and burnt it with fire, ground it to powder, and scattered it on the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.
      21 Moses said to Aaron, "What did these people do to you, that you have brought a great sin on them?"
      22 Aaron said, "Don't let the anger of my lord grow hot. You know the people, that they are set on evil.
      23 For they said to me, 'Make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don't know what has become of him.'
      24 I said to them, 'Whoever has any gold, let them take it off:' so they gave it to me; and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf."
      25 When Moses saw that the people had broken loose, (for Aaron had let them loose for a derision among their enemies),
      26 then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, "Whoever is on Yahweh's side, come to me!" All the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him.
      27 He said to them, "Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, 'Every man put his sword on his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate throughout the camp, and every man kill his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.'"
      28 The sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.
      29 Moses said, "Consecrate yourselves today to Yahweh, yes, every man against his son, and against his brother; that he may bestow on you a blessing this day."
      30 It happened on the next day, that Moses said to the people, "You have sinned a great sin. Now I will go up to Yahweh. Perhaps I shall make atonement for your sin."
      31 Moses returned to Yahweh, and said, "Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made themselves gods of gold.
      32 Yet now, if you will, forgive their sin--and if not, please blot me out of your book which you have written."
      33 Yahweh said to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.
      34 Now go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, my angel shall go before you. Nevertheless in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin."
      35 Yahweh struck the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.

      Exode 33

      1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, "Depart, go up from here, you and the people that you have brought up out of the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, 'I will give it to your seed.'
      2 I will send an angel before you; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:
      3 to a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of you, for you are a stiff-necked people, lest I consume you in the way."
      4 When the people heard this evil news, they mourned: and no one put on his jewelry.
      5 Yahweh said to Moses, "Tell the children of Israel, 'You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go up into your midst for one moment, I would consume you. Therefore now take off your jewelry from you, that I may know what to do to you.'"
      6 The children of Israel stripped themselves of their jewelry from Mount Horeb onward.
      7 Now Moses used to take the tent and to pitch it outside the camp, far away from the camp, and he called it "The Tent of Meeting." It happened that everyone who sought Yahweh went out to the Tent of Meeting, which was outside the camp.
      8 It happened that when Moses went out to the Tent, that all the people rose up, and stood, everyone at their tent door, and watched Moses, until he had gone into the Tent.
      9 It happened, when Moses entered into the Tent, that the pillar of cloud descended, stood at the door of the Tent, and spoke with Moses.
      10 All the people saw the pillar of cloud stand at the door of the Tent, and all the people rose up and worshiped, everyone at their tent door.
      11 Yahweh spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. He turned again into the camp, but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, didn't depart out of the Tent.
      12 Moses said to Yahweh, "Behold, you tell me, 'Bring up this people:' and you haven't let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, 'I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.'
      13 Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you, so that I may find favor in your sight: and consider that this nation is your people."
      14 He said, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."
      15 He said to him, "If your presence doesn't go with me, don't carry us up from here.
      16 For how would people know that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Isn't it in that you go with us, so that we are separated, I and your people, from all the people who are on the surface of the earth?"
      17 Yahweh said to Moses, "I will do this thing also that you have spoken; for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name."
      18 He said, "Please show me your glory."
      19 He said, "I will make all my goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of Yahweh before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy."
      20 He said, "You cannot see my face, for man may not see me and live."
      21 Yahweh also said, "Behold, there is a place by me, and you shall stand on the rock.
      22 It will happen, while my glory passes by, that I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and will cover you with my hand until I have passed by;
      23 then I will take away my hand, and you will see my back; but my face shall not be seen."

      Exode 34

      1 Yahweh said to Moses, "Chisel two stone tablets like the first: and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke.
      2 Be ready by the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself there to me on the top of the mountain.
      3 No one shall come up with you; neither let anyone be seen throughout all the mountain; neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that mountain."
      4 He chiseled two tablets of stone like the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up to Mount Sinai, as Yahweh had commanded him, and took in his hand two stone tablets.
      5 Yahweh descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of Yahweh.
      6 Yahweh passed by before him, and proclaimed, "Yahweh! Yahweh, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth,
      7 keeping loving kindness for thousands, forgiving iniquity and disobedience and sin; and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the children's children, on the third and on the fourth generation."
      8 Moses hurried and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped.
      9 He said, "If now I have found favor in your sight, Lord, please let the Lord go in the midst of us; although this is a stiff-necked people; pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance."
      10 He said, "Behold, I make a covenant: before all your people I will do marvels, such as have not been worked in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people among which you are shall see the work of Yahweh; for it is an awesome thing that I do with you.
      11 Observe that which I command you this day. Behold, I drive out before you the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
      12 Be careful, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be for a snare in the midst of you:
      13 but you shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and you shall cut down their Asherim;
      14 for you shall worship no other god: for Yahweh, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.
      15 "Don't make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, lest they play the prostitute after their gods, and sacrifice to their gods, and one call you and you eat of his sacrifice;
      16 and you take of their daughters to your sons, and their daughters play the prostitute after their gods, and make your sons play the prostitute after their gods.
      17 "You shall make no cast idols for yourselves.
      18 "You shall keep the feast of unleavened bread. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month Abib; for in the month Abib you came out from Egypt.
      19 "All that opens the womb is mine; and all your livestock that is male, the firstborn of cow and sheep.
      20 The firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb: and if you will not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. All the firstborn of your sons you shall redeem. No one shall appear before me empty.
      21 "Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest: in plowing time and in harvest you shall rest.
      22 "You shall observe the feast of weeks with the first fruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of harvest at the year's end.
      23 Three times in the year all your males shall appear before the Lord Yahweh, the God of Israel.
      24 For I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your borders; neither shall any man desire your land when you go up to appear before Yahweh, your God, three times in the year.
      25 "You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread; neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the Passover be left to the morning.
      26 "You shall bring the first of the first fruits of your ground to the house of Yahweh your God. "You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk."
      27 Yahweh said to Moses, "Write you these words: for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel."
      28 He was there with Yahweh forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread, nor drank water. He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.
      29 It happened, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mountain, that Moses didn't know that the skin of his face shone by reason of his speaking with him.
      30 When Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come near him.
      31 Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned to him; and Moses spoke to them.
      32 Afterward all the children of Israel came near, and he gave them all of the commandments that Yahweh had spoken with him on Mount Sinai.
      33 When Moses was done speaking with them, he put a veil on his face.
      34 But when Moses went in before Yahweh to speak with him, he took the veil off, until he came out; and he came out, and spoke to the children of Israel that which he was commanded.
      35 The children of Israel saw Moses' face, that the skin of Moses' face shone: and Moses put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with him.

      Exode 35

      1 Moses assembled all the congregation of the children of Israel, and said to them, "These are the words which Yahweh has commanded, that you should do them.
      2 'Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be a holy day for you, a Sabbath of solemn rest to Yahweh: whoever does any work in it shall be put to death.
      3 You shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations on the Sabbath day.'"
      4 Moses spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, "This is the thing which Yahweh commanded, saying,
      5 'Take from among you an offering to Yahweh. Whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, Yahweh's offering: gold, silver, brass,
      6 blue, purple, scarlet, fine linen, goats' hair,
      7 rams' skins dyed red, sea cow hides, acacia wood,
      8 oil for the light, spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense,
      9 onyx stones, and stones to be set for the ephod and for the breastplate.
      10 "'Let every wise-hearted man among you come, and make all that Yahweh has commanded:
      11 the tabernacle, its outer covering, its roof, its clasps, its boards, its bars, its pillars, and its sockets;
      12 the ark, and its poles, the mercy seat, the veil of the screen;
      13 the table with its poles and all its vessels, and the show bread;
      14 the lampstand also for the light, with its vessels, its lamps, and the oil for the light;
      15 and the altar of incense with its poles, the anointing oil, the sweet incense, the screen for the door, at the door of the tabernacle;
      16 the altar of burnt offering, with its grating of brass, it poles, and all its vessels, the basin and its base;
      17 the hangings of the court, its pillars, their sockets, and the screen for the gate of the court;
      18 the pins of the tabernacle, the pins of the court, and their cords;
      19 the finely worked garments, for ministering in the holy place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest's office.'"
      20 All the congregation of the children of Israel departed from the presence of Moses.
      21 They came, everyone whose heart stirred him up, and everyone whom his spirit made willing, and brought Yahweh's offering, for the work of the Tent of Meeting, and for all of its service, and for the holy garments.
      22 They came, both men and women, as many as were willing-hearted, and brought brooches, earrings, signet rings, and armlets, all jewels of gold; even every man who offered an offering of gold to Yahweh.
      23 Everyone, with whom was found blue, purple, scarlet, fine linen, goats' hair, rams' skins dyed red, and sea cow hides, brought them.
      24 Everyone who offered an offering of silver and brass brought Yahweh's offering; and everyone, with whom was found acacia wood for any work of the service, brought it.
      25 All the women who were wise-hearted spun with their hands, and brought that which they had spun, the blue, the purple, the scarlet, and the fine linen.
      26 All the women whose heart stirred them up in wisdom spun the goats' hair.
      27 The rulers brought the onyx stones, and the stones to be set, for the ephod and for the breastplate;
      28 and the spice, and the oil for the light, for the anointing oil, and for the sweet incense.
      29 The children of Israel brought a freewill offering to Yahweh; every man and woman, whose heart made them willing to bring for all the work, which Yahweh had commanded to be made by Moses.
      30 Moses said to the children of Israel, "Behold, Yahweh has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.
      31 He has filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all kinds of workmanship;
      32 and to make skillful works, to work in gold, in silver, in brass,
      33 in cutting of stones for setting, and in carving of wood, to work in all kinds of skillful workmanship.
      34 He has put in his heart that he may teach, both he, and Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan.
      35 He has filled them with wisdom of heart, to work all kinds of workmanship, of the engraver, of the skillful workman, and of the embroiderer, in blue, in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen, and of the weaver, even of those who do any workmanship, and of those who make skillful works.

      Exode 36

      1 "Bezalel and Oholiab shall work with every wise-hearted man, in whom Yahweh has put wisdom and understanding to know how to work all the work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all that Yahweh has commanded."
      2 Moses called Bezalel and Oholiab, and every wise-hearted man, in whose heart Yahweh had put wisdom, even everyone whose heart stirred him up to come to the work to do it:
      3 and they received from Moses all the offering which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary, with which to make it. They brought yet to him freewill offerings every morning.
      4 All the wise men, who performed all the work of the sanctuary, each came from his work which they did.
      5 They spoke to Moses, saying, "The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work which Yahweh commanded to make."
      6 Moses gave commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, "Let neither man nor woman make anything else for the offering for the sanctuary." So the people were restrained from bringing.
      7 For the stuff they had was sufficient for all the work to make it, and too much.
      8 All the wise-hearted men among those who did the work made the tabernacle with ten curtains; of fine twined linen, blue, purple, and scarlet, with cherubim, the work of the skillful workman, they made them.
      9 The length of each curtain was twenty-eight cubits, and the breadth of each curtain four cubits. All the curtains had one measure.
      10 He coupled five curtains to one another, and the other five curtains he coupled one to another.
      11 He made loops of blue on the edge of the one curtain from the edge in the coupling. Likewise he made in the edge of the curtain that was outmost in the second coupling.
      12 He made fifty loops in the one curtain, and he made fifty loops in the edge of the curtain that was in the second coupling. The loops were opposite one to another.
      13 He made fifty clasps of gold, and coupled the curtains one to another with the clasps: so the tabernacle was a unit.
      14 He made curtains of goats' hair for a covering over the tabernacle. He made them eleven curtains.
      15 The length of each curtain was thirty cubits, and four cubits the breadth of each curtain. The eleven curtains had one measure.
      16 He coupled five curtains by themselves, and six curtains by themselves.
      17 He made fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that was outmost in the coupling, and he made fifty loops on the edge of the curtain which was outmost in the second coupling.
      18 He made fifty clasps of brass to couple the tent together, that it might be a unit.
      19 He made a covering for the tent of rams' skins dyed red, and a covering of sea cow hides above.
      20 He made the boards for the tabernacle of acacia wood, standing up.
      21 Ten cubits was the length of a board, and a cubit and a half the breadth of each board.
      22 Each board had two tenons, joined one to another. He made all the boards of the tabernacle this way.
      23 He made the boards for the tabernacle: twenty boards for the south side southward.
      24 He made forty sockets of silver under the twenty boards; two sockets under one board for its two tenons, and two sockets under another board for its two tenons.
      25 For the second side of the tabernacle, on the north side, he made twenty boards,
      26 and their forty sockets of silver; two sockets under one board, and two sockets under another board.
      27 For the far part of the tabernacle westward he made six boards.
      28 He made two boards for the corners of the tabernacle in the far part.
      29 They were double beneath, and in the same way they were all the way to its top to one ring. He did this to both of them in the two corners.
      30 There were eight boards, and their sockets of silver, sixteen sockets; under every board two sockets.
      31 He made bars of acacia wood; five for the boards of the one side of the tabernacle,
      32 and five bars for the boards of the other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the boards of the tabernacle for the hinder part westward.
      33 He made the middle bar to pass through in the midst of the boards from the one end to the other.
      34 He overlaid the boards with gold, and made their rings of gold for places for the bars, and overlaid the bars with gold.
      35 He made the veil of blue, purple, scarlet, and fine twined linen: with cherubim. He made it the work of a skillful workman.
      36 He made four pillars of acacia for it, and overlaid them with gold. Their hooks were of gold. He cast four sockets of silver for them.
      37 He made a screen for the door of the tent, of blue, purple, scarlet, and fine twined linen, the work of an embroiderer;
      38 and the five pillars of it with their hooks. He overlaid their capitals and their fillets with gold, and their five sockets were of brass.

      Exode 37

      1 Bezalel made the ark of acacia wood. Its length was two and a half cubits, and its breadth a cubit and a half, and a cubit and a half its height.
      2 He overlaid it with pure gold inside and outside, and made a molding of gold for it around it.
      3 He cast four rings of gold for it, in its four feet; even two rings on its one side, and two rings on its other side.
      4 He made poles of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold.
      5 He put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark, to bear the ark.
      6 He made a mercy seat of pure gold. Its length was two and a half cubits, and a cubit and a half its breadth.
      7 He made two cherubim of gold. He made them of beaten work, at the two ends of the mercy seat;
      8 one cherub at the one end, and one cherub at the other end. He made the cherubim of one piece with the mercy seat at its two ends.
      9 The cherubim spread out their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, with their faces toward one another. The faces of the cherubim were toward the mercy seat.
      10 He made the table of acacia wood. Its length was two cubits, and its breadth was a cubit, and its height was a cubit and a half.
      11 He overlaid it with pure gold, and made a gold molding around it.
      12 He made a border of a handbreadth around it, and made a golden molding on its border around it.
      13 He cast four rings of gold for it, and put the rings in the four corners that were on its four feet.
      14 The rings were close by the border, the places for the poles to carry the table.
      15 He made the poles of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold, to carry the table.
      16 He made the vessels which were on the table, its dishes, its spoons, its bowls, and its pitchers with which to pour out, of pure gold.
      17 He made the lampstand of pure gold. He made the lampstand of beaten work. Its base, its shaft, its cups, its buds, and its flowers were of one piece with it.
      18 There were six branches going out of its sides: three branches of the lampstand out of its one side, and three branches of the lampstand out of its other side:
      19 three cups made like almond blossoms in one branch, a bud and a flower, and three cups made like almond blossoms in the other branch, a bud and a flower: so for the six branches going out of the lampstand.
      20 In the lampstand were four cups made like almond blossoms, its buds and its flowers;
      21 and a bud under two branches of one piece with it, and a bud under two branches of one piece with it, and a bud under two branches of one piece with it, for the six branches going out of it.
      22 Their buds and their branches were of one piece with it. The whole thing was one beaten work of pure gold.
      23 He made its seven lamps, and its snuffers, and its snuff dishes, of pure gold.
      24 He made it of a talent of pure gold, with all its vessels.
      25 He made the altar of incense of acacia wood. It was square: its length was a cubit, and its breadth a cubit. Its height was two cubits. Its horns were of one piece with it.
      26 He overlaid it with pure gold, its top, its sides around it, and its horns. He made a gold molding around it.
      27 He made two golden rings for it under its molding crown, on its two ribs, on its two sides, for places for poles with which to carry it.
      28 He made the poles of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold.
      29 He made the holy anointing oil and the pure incense of sweet spices, after the art of the perfumer.

      Exode 38

      1 He made the altar of burnt offering of acacia wood. It was square. Its length was five cubits, its breadth was five cubits, and its height was three cubits.
      2 He made its horns on its four corners. Its horns were of one piece with it, and he overlaid it with brass.
      3 He made all the vessels of the altar, the pots, the shovels, the basins, the forks, and the fire pans. He made all its vessels of brass.
      4 He made for the altar a grating of a network of brass, under the ledge around it beneath, reaching halfway up.
      5 He cast four rings for the four ends of brass grating, to be places for the poles.
      6 He made the poles of acacia wood, and overlaid them with brass.
      7 He put the poles into the rings on the sides of the altar, with which to carry it. He made it hollow with planks.
      8 He made the basin of brass, and its base of brass, out of the mirrors of the ministering women who ministered at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
      9 He made the court: for the south side southward the hangings of the court were of fine twined linen, one hundred cubits;
      10 their pillars were twenty, and their sockets twenty, of brass; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets were of silver.
      11 For the north side one hundred cubits, their pillars twenty, and their sockets twenty, of brass; the hooks of the pillars, and their fillets, of silver.
      12 For the west side were hangings of fifty cubits, their pillars ten, and their sockets ten; the hooks of the pillars, and their fillets, of silver.
      13 For the east side eastward fifty cubits.
      14 The hangings for the one side were fifteen cubits; their pillars three, and their sockets three;
      15 and so for the other side: on this hand and that hand by the gate of the court were hangings of fifteen cubits; their pillars three, and their sockets three.
      16 All the hangings around the court were of fine twined linen.
      17 The sockets for the pillars were of brass. The hooks of the pillars and their fillets were of silver; and the overlaying of their capitals, of silver; and all the pillars of the court were filleted with silver.
      18 The screen for the gate of the court was the work of the embroiderer, of blue, purple, scarlet, and fine twined linen. Twenty cubits was the length, and the height in the breadth was five cubits, like to the hangings of the court.
      19 Their pillars were four, and their sockets four, of brass; their hooks of silver, and the overlaying of their capitals, and their fillets, of silver.
      20 All the pins of the tabernacle, and around the court, were of brass.
      21 This is the amount of material used for the tabernacle, even the Tabernacle of the Testimony, as they were counted, according to the commandment of Moses, for the service of the Levites, by the hand of Ithamar, the son of Aaron the priest.
      22 Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made all that Yahweh commanded Moses.
      23 With him was Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, an engraver, and a skillful workman, and an embroiderer in blue, in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen.
      24 All the gold that was used for the work in all the work of the sanctuary, even the gold of the offering, was twenty-nine talents, and seven hundred thirty shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary.
      25 The silver of those who were numbered of the congregation was one hundred talents, and one thousand seven hundred seventy-five shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary:
      26 a beka a head, that is, half a shekel, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for everyone who passed over to those who were numbered, from twenty years old and upward, for six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty men.
      27 The one hundred talents of silver were for casting the sockets of the sanctuary, and the sockets of the veil; one hundred sockets for the one hundred talents, a talent for a socket.
      28 Of the one thousand seven hundred seventy-five shekels he made hooks for the pillars, overlaid their capitals, and made fillets for them.
      29 The brass of the offering was seventy talents, and two thousand four hundred shekels.
      30 With this he made the sockets to the door of the Tent of Meeting, the bronze altar, the bronze grating for it, all the vessels of the altar,
      31 the sockets around the court, the sockets of the gate of the court, all the pins of the tabernacle, and all the pins around the court.

      Exode 39

      1 Of the blue, purple, and scarlet, they made finely worked garments, for ministering in the holy place, and made the holy garments for Aaron; as Yahweh commanded Moses.
      2 He made the ephod of gold, blue, purple, scarlet, and fine twined linen.
      3 They beat the gold into thin plates, and cut it into wires, to work it in the blue, in the purple, in the scarlet, and in the fine linen, the work of the skillful workman.
      4 They made shoulder straps for it, joined together. At the two ends it was joined together.
      5 The skillfully woven band that was on it, with which to fasten it on, was of the same piece, like its work; of gold, of blue, purple, scarlet, and fine twined linen; as Yahweh commanded Moses.
      6 They worked the onyx stones, enclosed in settings of gold, engraved with the engravings of a signet, according to the names of the children of Israel.
      7 He put them on the shoulder straps of the ephod, to be stones of memorial for the children of Israel, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
      8 He made the breastplate, the work of a skillful workman, like the work of the ephod; of gold, of blue, purple, scarlet, and fine twined linen.
      9 It was square. They made the breastplate double. Its length was a span, and its breadth a span, being double.
      10 They set in it four rows of stones. A row of ruby, topaz, and beryl was the first row;
      11 and the second row, a turquoise, a sapphire , and an emerald;
      12 and the third row, a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;
      13 and the fourth row, a chrysolite, an onyx, and a jasper. They were enclosed in gold settings.
      14 The stones were according to the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names; like the engravings of a signet, everyone according to his name, for the twelve tribes.
      15 They made on the breastplate chains like cords, of braided work of pure gold.
      16 They made two settings of gold, and two gold rings, and put the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate.
      17 They put the two braided chains of gold in the two rings at the ends of the breastplate.
      18 The other two ends of the two braided chains they put on the two settings, and put them on the shoulder straps of the ephod, in its front.
      19 They made two rings of gold, and put them on the two ends of the breastplate, on its edge, which was toward the side of the ephod inward.
      20 They made two rings of gold, and put them on the two shoulder straps of the ephod underneath, in its front, close by its coupling, above the skillfully woven band of the ephod.
      21 They bound the breastplate by its rings to the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue, that it might be on the skillfully woven band of the ephod, and that the breastplate might not come loose from the ephod, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
      22 He made the robe of the ephod of woven work, all of blue.
      23 The opening of the robe in its midst was like the opening of a coat of mail, with a binding around its opening, that it should not be torn.
      24 They made on the skirts of the robe pomegranates of blue, purple, scarlet, and twined linen.
      25 They made bells of pure gold, and put the bells between the pomegranates around the skirts of the robe, between the pomegranates;
      26 a bell and a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate, around the skirts of the robe, to minister in, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
      27 They made the coats of fine linen of woven work for Aaron, and for his sons,
      28 and the turban of fine linen, and the linen headbands of fine linen, and the linen breeches of fine twined linen,
      29 and the sash of fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, the work of the embroiderer, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
      30 They made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote on it a writing, like the engravings of a signet: "HOLY TO YAHWEH."
      31 They tied to it a lace of blue, to fasten it on the turban above, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
      32 Thus all the work of the tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting was finished. The children of Israel did according to all that Yahweh commanded Moses; so they did.
      33 They brought the tabernacle to Moses, the tent, with all its furniture, its clasps, its boards, its bars, its pillars, its sockets,
      34 the covering of rams' skins dyed red, the covering of sea cow hides, the veil of the screen,
      35 the ark of the testimony with its poles, the mercy seat,
      36 the table, all its vessels, the show bread,
      37 the pure lampstand, its lamps, even the lamps to be set in order, all its vessels, the oil for the light,
      38 the golden altar, the anointing oil, the sweet incense, the screen for the door of the Tent,
      39 the bronze altar, its grating of brass, its poles, all of its vessels, the basin and its base,
      40 the hangings of the court, its pillars, its sockets, the screen for the gate of the court, its cords, its pins, all the instruments of the service of the tabernacle, for the Tent of Meeting,
      41 the finely worked garments for ministering in the holy place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest's office.
      42 According to all that Yahweh commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did all the work.
      43 Moses saw all the work, and behold, they had done it as Yahweh had commanded, even so had they done it: and Moses blessed them.

      Exode 40

      1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
      2 "On the first day of the first month you shall raise up the tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting.
      3 You shall put the ark of the testimony in it, and you shall screen the ark with the veil.
      4 You shall bring in the table, and set in order the things that are on it. You shall bring in the lampstand, and light its lamps.
      5 You shall set the golden altar for incense before the ark of the testimony, and put the screen of the door to the tabernacle.
      6 "You shall set the altar of burnt offering before the door of the tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting.
      7 You shall set the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and shall put water therein.
      8 You shall set up the court around it, and hang up the screen of the gate of the court.
      9 "You shall take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is in it, and shall make it holy, and all its furniture: and it will be holy.
      10 You shall anoint the altar of burnt offering, with all its vessels, and sanctify the altar: and the altar will be most holy.
      11 You shall anoint the basin and its base, and sanctify it.
      12 "You shall bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and shall wash them with water.
      13 You shall put on Aaron the holy garments; and you shall anoint him, and sanctify him, that he may minister to me in the priest's office.
      14 You shall bring his sons, and put coats on them.
      15 You shall anoint them, as you anointed their father, that they may minister to me in the priest's office. Their anointing shall be to them for an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations."
      16 Moses did so. According to all that Yahweh commanded him, so he did.
      17 It happened in the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was raised up.
      18 Moses raised up the tabernacle, and laid its sockets, and set up its boards, and put in its bars, and raised up its pillars.
      19 He spread the covering over the tent, and put the roof of the tabernacle above on it, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
      20 He took and put the testimony into the ark, and set the poles on the ark, and put the mercy seat above on the ark.
      21 He brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up the veil of the screen, and screened the ark of the testimony, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
      22 He put the table in the Tent of Meeting, on the side of the tabernacle northward, outside of the veil.
      23 He set the bread in order on it before Yahweh, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
      24 He put the lampstand in the Tent of Meeting, opposite the table, on the side of the tabernacle southward.
      25 He lit the lamps before Yahweh, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
      26 He put the golden altar in the Tent of Meeting before the veil;
      27 and he burnt incense of sweet spices on it, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
      28 He put up the screen of the door to the tabernacle.
      29 He set the altar of burnt offering at the door of the tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting, and offered on it the burnt offering and the meal offering, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
      30 He set the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water therein, with which to wash.
      31 Moses, Aaron, and his sons washed their hands and their feet there.
      32 When they went into the Tent of Meeting, and when they came near to the altar, they washed, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
      33 He raised up the court around the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the screen of the gate of the court. So Moses finished the work.
      34 Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of Yahweh filled the tabernacle.
      35 Moses wasn't able to enter into the Tent of Meeting, because the cloud stayed on it, and Yahweh's glory filled the tabernacle.
      36 When the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward, throughout all their journeys;
      37 but if the cloud wasn't taken up, then they didn't travel until the day that it was taken up.
      38 For the cloud of Yahweh was on the tabernacle by day, and there was fire in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.
