    • Genèse 4

      1 The man knew Eve his wife. She conceived, and gave birth to Cain, and said, "I have gotten a man with Yahweh's help."
      2 Again she gave birth, to Cain's brother Abel. Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
      3 As time passed, it happened that Cain brought an offering to Yahweh from the fruit of the ground.
      4 Abel also brought some of the firstborn of his flock and of its fat. Yahweh respected Abel and his offering,
      5 but he didn't respect Cain and his offering. Cain was very angry, and the expression on his face fell.
      6 Yahweh said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why has the expression of your face fallen?
      7 If you do well, will it not be lifted up? If you don't do well, sin crouches at the door. Its desire is for you, but you are to rule over it."
      8 Cain said to Abel, his brother, "Let's go into the field." It happened when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel, his brother, and killed him.
      9 Yahweh said to Cain, "Where is Abel, your brother?" He said, "I don't know. Am I my brother's keeper?"
      10 Yahweh said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries to me from the ground.
      11 Now you are cursed because of the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.
      12 From now on, when you till the ground, it won't yield its strength to you. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth."
      13 Cain said to Yahweh, "My punishment is greater than I can bear.
      14 Behold, you have driven me out this day from the surface of the ground. I will be hidden from your face, and I will be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth. It will happen that whoever finds me will kill me."
      15 Yahweh said to him, "Therefore whoever slays Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold." Yahweh appointed a sign for Cain, lest any finding him should strike him.
      16 Cain went out from Yahweh's presence, and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

      1 וְהָ֣אָדָ֔ם יָדַ֖ע אֶת־חַוָּ֣ה אִשְׁתּ֑וֹ וַתַּ֙הַר֙ וַתֵּ֣לֶד אֶת־קַ֔יִן וַתֹּ֕אמֶר קָנִ֥יתִי אִ֖ישׁ אֶת־יְהוָֽה׃
      2 וַתֹּ֣סֶף לָלֶ֔דֶת אֶת־אָחִ֖יו אֶת־הָ֑בֶל וַֽיְהִי־הֶ֙בֶל֙ רֹ֣עֵה צֹ֔אן וְקַ֕יִן הָיָ֖ה עֹבֵ֥ד אֲדָמָֽה׃
      3 וַֽיְהִ֖י מִקֵּ֣ץ יָמִ֑ים וַיָּבֵ֨א קַ֜יִן מִפְּרִ֧י הָֽאֲדָמָ֛ה מִנְחָ֖ה לַֽיהוָֽה׃
      4 וְהֶ֨בֶל הֵבִ֥יא גַם־ה֛וּא מִבְּכֹר֥וֹת צֹאנ֖וֹ וּמֵֽחֶלְבֵהֶ֑ן וַיִּ֣שַׁע יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־הֶ֖בֶל וְאֶל־מִנְחָתֽוֹ׃

      8 וַיֹּ֥אמֶר קַ֖יִן אֶל־הֶ֣בֶל אָחִ֑יו וַֽיְהִי֙ בִּהְיוֹתָ֣ם בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה וַיָּ֥קָם קַ֛יִן אֶל־הֶ֥בֶל אָחִ֖יו וַיַּהַרְגֵֽהוּ׃

    • Genèse 4

      1 Adam connut Eve, sa femme ; elle conçut, et enfanta Caïn et elle dit : J'ai formé un homme avec l'aide de l'Éternel.
      2 Elle enfanta encore son frère Abel. Abel fut berger, et Caïn fut laboureur.
      3 Au bout de quelque temps, Caïn fit à l'Éternel une offrande des fruits de la terre ;
      4 et Abel, de son côté, en fit une des premiers-nés de son troupeau et de leur graisse. L'Éternel porta un regard favorable sur Abel et sur son offrande ;
      5 mais il ne porta pas un regard favorable sur Caïn et sur son offrande. Caïn fut très irrité, et son visage fut abattu.
      6 Et l'Éternel dit à Caïn : Pourquoi es-tu irrité, et pourquoi ton visage est-il abattu ?
      7 Certainement, si tu agis bien, tu relèveras ton visage, et si tu agis mal, le péché se couche à la porte, et ses désirs se portent vers toi : mais toi, domine sur lui.
      8 Cependant, Caïn adressa la parole à son frère Abel ; mais, comme ils étaient dans les champs, Caïn se jeta sur son frère Abel, et le tua.
      9 L'Éternel dit à Caïn : Où est ton frère Abel ? Il répondit : Je ne sais pas ; suis-je le gardien de mon frère ?
      10 Et Dieu dit : Qu'as-tu fait ? La voix du sang de ton frère crie de la terre jusqu'à moi.
      11 Maintenant, tu seras maudit de la terre qui a ouvert sa bouche pour recevoir de ta main le sang de ton frère.
      12 Quand tu cultiveras le sol, il ne te donnera plus sa richesse. Tu seras errant et vagabond sur la terre.
      13 Caïn dit à l'Éternel : Mon châtiment est trop grand pour être supporté.
      14 Voici, tu me chasses aujourd'hui de cette terre ; je serai caché loin de ta face, je serai errant et vagabond sur la terre, et quiconque me trouvera me tuera.
      15 L'Éternel lui dit : Si quelqu'un tuait Caïn, Caïn serait vengé sept fois. Et l'Éternel mit un signe sur Caïn pour que quiconque le trouverait ne le tuât point.
      16 Puis, Caïn s'éloigna de la face de l'Éternel, et habita dans la terre de Nod, à l'orient d'Éden.

    • Genèse 4

      1 L’homme s’unit à Ève, sa femme. Elle devient enceinte et elle met au monde Caïn. Puis elle dit : « Avec l’aide du SEIGNEUR, j’ai donné la vie à un petit d’homme ! »
      2 Elle met aussi au monde Abel, le frère de Caïn. Abel devient berger, et Caïn cultive la terre.
      3 À la fin de l’année, Caïn apporte quelques récoltes du champ. Il les offre au SEIGNEUR.
      4 De son côté, Abel apporte les premiers agneaux de son troupeau. Et il offre au SEIGNEUR les meilleurs morceaux. Le SEIGNEUR reçoit avec plaisir Abel et son offrande.
      5 Mais il ne reçoit pas Caïn, ni son offrande. C’est pourquoi Caïn est très en colère. Son visage devient sombre de tristesse.
      6 Le SEIGNEUR dit à Caïn : « Tu es en colère et ton visage est triste. Pourquoi ?
      7 Si tu agis bien, tu peux te remettre debout. Si tu n’agis pas bien, le péché est comme un animal couché à ta porte. Il t’attend en cachette, prêt à t’attraper. Mais toi, sois plus fort que lui. »
      8 Caïn dit à son frère Abel : « Sortons ! » Dehors, dans les champs, Caïn se jette sur son frère Abel et il le tue.
      9 Alors le SEIGNEUR dit à Caïn : « Où est ton frère Abel ? » Caïn répond : « Je ne sais pas. Est-ce que je suis le gardien de mon frère ? »
      10 Le SEIGNEUR continue : « Qu’est-ce que tu as fait là ? J’entends la voix du sang de ton frère. Dans le sol, elle crie vers moi pour demander vengeance.
      11 Le sol s’est ouvert pour recevoir le sang de ton frère que tu as tué. Eh bien, maintenant, ce sol te maudit.
      12 Quand tu le cultiveras, il ne te donnera plus ses richesses. Tu iras toujours d’un endroit à un autre, et tu ne pourras jamais t’arrêter sur la terre. »
      13 Caïn dit au SEIGNEUR : « Ma punition est trop lourde à porter.
      14 Aujourd’hui, tu me chasses de la bonne terre. Je vais être obligé de me cacher loin de toi. J’irai toujours d’un endroit à un autre, et je ne pourrai jamais m’arrêter sur la terre. Et celui qui me trouvera pourra me tuer. »
      15 Le SEIGNEUR répond à Caïn : « Mais non ! Si quelqu’un te tue, il faudra tuer sept personnes, pour que tu sois vengé. » Et le SEIGNEUR met une marque sur Caïn. Alors celui qui le rencontrera ne pourra pas le tuer.
      16 Caïn part loin du SEIGNEUR. Il va habiter au pays de Nod, à l’est d’Éden.
