    • Genèse 27

      1 It happened, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his elder son, and said to him, "My son?" He said to him, "Here I am."
      2 He said, "See now, I am old. I don't know the day of my death.
      3 Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field, and take me venison.
      4 Make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat, and that my soul may bless you before I die."
      5 Rebekah heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.
      6 Rebekah spoke to Jacob her son, saying, "Behold, I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying,
      7 'Bring me venison, and make me savory food, that I may eat, and bless you before Yahweh before my death.'
      8 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command you.
      9 Go now to the flock, and get me from there two good young goats. I will make them savory food for your father, such as he loves.
      10 You shall bring it to your father, that he may eat, so that he may bless you before his death."
      11 Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, "Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man.
      12 What if my father touches me? I will seem to him as a deceiver, and I would bring a curse on myself, and not a blessing."
      13 His mother said to him, "Let your curse be on me, my son. Only obey my voice, and go get them for me."
      14 He went, and got them, and brought them to his mother. His mother made savory food, such as his father loved.
      15 Rebekah took the good clothes of Esau, her elder son, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob, her younger son.
      16 She put the skins of the young goats on his hands, and on the smooth of his neck.
      17 She gave the savory food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.
      18 He came to his father, and said, "My father?" He said, "Here I am. Who are you, my son?"
      19 Jacob said to his father, "I am Esau your firstborn. I have done what you asked me to do. Please arise, sit and eat of my venison, that your soul may bless me."
      20 Isaac said to his son, "How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?" He said, "Because Yahweh your God gave me success."
      21 Isaac said to Jacob, "Please come near, that I may feel you, my son, whether you are really my son Esau or not."
      22 Jacob went near to Isaac his father. He felt him, and said, "The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau."
      23 He didn't recognize him, because his hands were hairy, like his brother, Esau's hands. So he blessed him.
      24 He said, "Are you really my son Esau?" He said, "I am."
      25 He said, "Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless you." He brought it near to him, and he ate. He brought him wine, and he drank.
      26 His father Isaac said to him, "Come near now, and kiss me, my son."
      27 He came near, and kissed him. He smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him, and said, "Behold, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which Yahweh has blessed.
      28 God give you of the dew of the sky, of the fatness of the earth, and plenty of grain and new wine.
      29 Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers. Let your mother's sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you. Blessed be everyone who blesses you."
      30 It happened, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob had just gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.
      31 He also made savory food, and brought it to his father. He said to his father, "Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that your soul may bless me."
      32 Isaac his father said to him, "Who are you?" He said, "I am your son, your firstborn, Esau."
      33 Isaac trembled violently, and said, "Who, then, is he who has taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before you came, and have blessed him? Yes, he will be blessed."
      34 When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with an exceeding great and bitter cry, and said to his father, "Bless me, even me also, my father."
      35 He said, "Your brother came with deceit, and has taken away your blessing."
      36 He said, "Isn't he rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright. See, now he has taken away my blessing." He said, "Haven't you reserved a blessing for me?"
      37 Isaac answered Esau, "Behold, I have made him your lord, and all his brothers have I given to him for servants. With grain and new wine have I sustained him. What then will I do for you, my son?"
      38 Esau said to his father, "Have you but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, my father." Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.
      39 Isaac his father answered him, "Behold, of the fatness of the earth will be your dwelling, and of the dew of the sky from above.
      40 By your sword will you live, and you will serve your brother. It will happen, when you will break loose, that you shall shake his yoke from off your neck."
      41 Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him. Esau said in his heart, "The days of mourning for my father are at hand. Then I will kill my brother Jacob."
      42 The words of Esau, her elder son, were told to Rebekah. She sent and called Jacob, her younger son, and said to him, "Behold, your brother Esau comforts himself about you by planning to kill you.
      43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice. Arise, flee to Laban, my brother, in Haran.
      44 Stay with him a few days, until your brother's fury turns away;
      45 until your brother's anger turn away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send, and get you from there. Why should I be bereaved of you both in one day?"
      46 Rebekah said to Isaac, "I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these, of the daughters of the land, what good will my life do me?"

      1 Isaac était devenu vieux. Sa vue avait tellement baissé qu’il n’y voyait plus. Il appela son fils aîné : « Ésaü ! » – « Oui, répondit-il, je t’écoute. »
      2 Isaac reprit : « Tu le vois, je suis vieux et je ne sais pas combien de temps j’ai encore à vivre.
      3 Prends ton arc et tes flèches et va à la chasse. Tu me ramèneras du gibier,
      4 tu me prépareras un de ces plats appétissants, comme je les aime, et tu me l’apporteras. J’en mangerai, puis je te donnerai ma bénédiction avant de mourir. »
      5 Or Rébecca écoutait pendant qu’Isaac parlait à Ésaü. Dès que celui-ci fut parti dans la campagne afin d’en rapporter du gibier,
      6 Rébecca dit à son fils Jacob : « J’ai entendu ton père dire à Ésaü :
      7 “Apporte-moi du gibier et prépare-moi un plat appétissant. Quand j’en aurai mangé, je te donnerai ma bénédiction devant le Seigneur avant de mourir.”
      8 Maintenant, mon fils, écoute-moi bien et fais ce que je te recommande.
      9 Va au troupeau et rapporte-moi deux beaux chevreaux. Je préparerai pour ton père un de ces plats appétissants, comme il les aime.
      10 Tu le porteras à ton père pour qu’il en mange et qu’il te donne sa bénédiction avant de mourir. »
      11 Jacob répondit à sa mère : « Ésaü est couvert de poils, mais pas moi.
      12 Si mon père me touche, il découvrira que je le trompe et j’attirerai sur moi non pas sa bénédiction mais sa malédiction. »
      13 Sa mère répliqua : « Je prends sur moi cette malédiction, mon fils. De toute façon, écoute-moi et va me chercher ces chevreaux. »
      14 Jacob alla les chercher et les apporta à sa mère. Elle en fit un de ces plats appétissants qu’Isaac aimait.
      15 Ensuite elle prit des vêtements de son fils aîné, les plus beaux qu’elle avait à la maison, et en habilla Jacob, son fils cadet.
      16 Avec la peau des chevreaux, elle lui recouvrit les bras et la partie lisse du cou
      17 et elle lui mit entre les mains le plat appétissant et le pain qu’elle avait préparés.
      18 Il alla trouver son père et lui dit : « Mon père ! » – « Je t’écoute, mon fils, dit-il ; mais dis-moi qui tu es. »
      19 Jacob reprit : « Je suis Ésaü, ton fils aîné. J’ai fait ce que tu m’as demandé. Viens donc t’asseoir pour manger de mon gibier ; ensuite tu me donneras ta bénédiction. » –
      20 « Comment as-tu trouvé si vite du gibier, mon fils ? » demanda Isaac. Il répondit : « Le Seigneur ton Dieu l’a mis sur mon chemin. »
      21 Isaac dit à Jacob : « Approche-toi. Je veux te toucher, mon fils, pour m’assurer que tu es bien mon fils Ésaü. »
      22 Jacob s’approcha de son père ; Isaac le toucha et dit : « La voix est celle de Jacob, mais les bras sont ceux d’Ésaü. »
      23 Il ne reconnut pas Jacob, parce que ses bras étaient couverts de poils comme les bras d’Ésaü. Mais avant de lui donner sa bénédiction,
      24 il lui demanda encore : « Tu es bien mon fils Ésaü ? » – « Oui », répondit Jacob.
      25 Isaac reprit : « Sers-moi, mon fils, pour que je mange de ton gibier et que je te donne ma bénédiction. » Jacob servit son père, qui mangea, et il lui offrit du vin, qu’il but.
      26 Ensuite Isaac lui dit : « Approche-toi et embrasse-moi, mon fils ! »
      27 Jacob s’approcha donc et l’embrassa. Isaac sentit l’odeur de ses vêtements et lui donna sa bénédiction : « Vraiment, dit-il, l’odeur de mon fils est comme celle d’un champ que le Seigneur a béni.
      28 “Que Dieu te donne la rosée qui tombe du ciel, les riches produits de la terre, du blé et du vin en abondance.
      29 Que des nations soient à ton service, que des peuples se prosternent devant toi. Sois le maître de tes frères, qu’ils s’inclinent devant toi ! Maudit soit celui qui te maudira, béni soit celui qui te bénira !” »
      30 Lorsque Isaac eut achevé la bénédiction qu’il donnait à Jacob, celui-ci sortit. Il avait à peine quitté son père qu’Ésaü revint de la chasse.
      31 Il prépara lui aussi un plat appétissant, l’apporta à son père et lui dit : « Installe-toi, père, pour manger du gibier que je t’ai rapporté ; ensuite tu me donneras ta bénédiction. » –
      32 « Qui es-tu ? » demanda Isaac. « Je suis Ésaü, ton fils aîné », répondit-il.
      33 Dans son émotion, Isaac se mit à trembler de tous ses membres et demanda : « Mais alors, qui est celui qui a chassé du gibier, me l’a apporté et m’a fait manger de tout avant ton arrivée ? C’est à lui que j’ai donné ma bénédiction, et elle lui restera acquise. »
      34 Quand Ésaü entendit les paroles de son père, son cœur déborda d’amertume et il se mit à pousser de grands cris. Il supplia son père : « Donne-moi aussi une bénédiction, père ! »
      35 Isaac répondit : « Ton frère est venu et m’a trompé. Il a emporté la bénédiction qui te revenait. »
      36 Ésaü déclara : « Il porte bien son nom de Jacob – “celui qui dupe” –, puisqu’il m’a dupé deux fois ! Il s’est emparé de mes droits de fils aîné et maintenant voilà qu’il s’empare de la bénédiction qui me revenait ! » Ésaü ajouta : « Ne te reste-t-il pas une bénédiction pour moi ? »
      37 Isaac lui répondit : « J’ai fait de lui ton maître et je lui ai donné tous ses frères pour serviteurs. Je lui ai accordé le blé et le vin. Je ne peux rien faire pour toi, mon fils ! »
      38 Ésaü insista : « N’as-tu qu’une seule bénédiction ? Bénis-moi aussi, mon père ! » Et il ne put retenir ses larmes.
      39 Son père lui dit : « Loin des terres fertiles sera ta demeure, loin de la rosée qui descend du ciel.
      40 Tu vivras grâce à ton épée, et tu serviras ton frère. Mais tu te libéreras, tu arracheras le joug qu’il t’aura imposé et tu le rejetteras de ton cou. »
      41 Ésaü se mit à détester Jacob à cause de la bénédiction qu’il avait reçue de son père. Il se dit : « Le moment du deuil de mon père approche ; alors je tuerai Jacob. »
      42 Quand Rébecca apprit les intentions de son fils, elle fit appeler Jacob et lui dit : « Attention, ton frère Ésaü veut se venger de toi en te tuant.
      43 Maintenant, écoute-moi bien, mon fils ! Pars d’ici, fuis chez mon frère Laban, à Haran.
      44 Tu resteras chez lui quelque temps, jusqu’à ce que ton frère se calme,
      45 que sa colère se détourne de toi et qu’il oublie ce que tu as fait. Alors je t’enverrai chercher là-bas. Je ne veux pas vous perdre tous les deux le même jour. »
      46 Rébecca dit à Isaac : « Je suis déjà assez dégoûtée de la vie à cause de mes belles-filles hittites. Si Jacob épouse à son tour une fille de ce pays, je perdrai ma dernière raison de vivre ! »
