      Le peuple arrive au désert de Tsin, il murmure pour avoir de l'eau ; Moïse frappe le rocher, L'infirmité de Moïse et d'Aaron. (Nombres 20:1-13)

      Après avoir connu pendant des années la soif et les rudes conditions de vie dans le désert, l'armée d'Israël continue sa marche vers le pays de Canaan. L'eau vint à manquer de nouveau. Nous vivons dans un monde où souvent nous manquons des choses nécessaires : où que nous puissions être, nous cherchons alors à rencontrer quelqu'un qui puisse nous tirer de notre embarras. C'est une grande grâce d'avoir de l'eau à profusion et si tel est notre cas, nous devrions en apprécier toute la valeur. Donc, les enfants d'Israël murmurèrent contre Moïse et Aaron. Ils tinrent le même langage, absurde et grossier, comme l'avaient fait leurs pères. Ce fut véritablement le pire des crimes : ils marchèrent pendant des années, dans des conditions difficiles, avec le même mécontentement permanent de leurs pères, errant sur les mêmes chemins. Moïse dut encore un fois s'en référer à Dieu, en Son Nom, pour que ce Dernier puisse donner de l'eau, à partir du Rocher ; Dieu est en effet toujours capable d'accorder à Son peuple le nécessaire. Mais Moïse et Aaron commirent une faute : ils tirèrent de ce miracle, trop de gloire pour eux-mêmes ; Moïse dit aux Israélites : « Écoutez donc, rebelles ! Est-ce de ce rocher que nous vous ferons sortir de l’eau » ? Ils donnaient un peu l'impression au peuple de faire ce prodige eux-mêmes. Devant parler au rocher, ils s'adressaient en fait au peuple.

      En conséquence, il leur fut reproché de ne pas donner à Dieu seul, toute la gloire qui Lui revenait uniquement. Étant alors provoqué par le peuple, Moïse parla inconsidérément. Il s'agit du même sentiment d'orgueil, quand l'homme prétend être son propre maître, usurpant ainsi le rôle de Christ, le Médiateur ; ce Dernier est en effet le Seul à pouvoir nous apporter la Sagesse, la Sanctification et la Rédemption. La Parole de Dieu condamne dans chaque page de l'évangile, l'âme qui se rebelle contre le Sauveur.

      1 The children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month: and the people stayed in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.
      2 There was no water for the congregation: and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
      3 The people strove with Moses, and spoke, saying, "We wish that we had died when our brothers died before Yahweh!
      4 Why have you brought the assembly of Yahweh into this wilderness, that we should die there, we and our animals?
      5 Why have you made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in to this evil place? It is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink."
      6 Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and fell on their faces: and the glory of Yahweh appeared to them.
      7 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
      8 "Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, you, and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it give forth its water; and you shall bring forth to them water out of the rock; so you shall give the congregation and their livestock drink."
      9 Moses took the rod from before Yahweh, as he commanded him.
      10 Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, "Hear now, you rebels; shall we bring you water out of this rock for you?"
      11 Moses lifted up his hand, and struck the rock with his rod twice: and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their livestock.
      12 Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you didn't believe in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them."

      2 וְלֹא־הָ֥יָה מַ֖יִם לָעֵדָ֑ה וַיִּקָּ֣הֲל֔וּ עַל־מֹשֶׁ֖ה וְעַֽל־אַהֲרֹֽן׃
      3 וַיָּ֥רֶב הָעָ֖ם עִם־מֹשֶׁ֑ה וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ לֵאמֹ֔ר וְל֥וּ גָוַ֛עְנוּ בִּגְוַ֥ע אַחֵ֖ינוּ לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃
      4 וְלָמָ֤ה הֲבֵאתֶם֙ אֶת־קְהַ֣ל יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־הַמִּדְבָּ֖ר הַזֶּ֑ה לָמ֣וּת שָׁ֔ם אֲנַ֖חְנוּ וּבְעִירֵֽנוּ׃
      5 וְלָמָ֤ה הֶֽעֱלִיתֻ֙נוּ֙ מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם לְהָבִ֣יא אֹתָ֔נוּ אֶל־הַמָּק֥וֹם הָרָ֖ע הַזֶּ֑ה לֹ֣א ׀ מְק֣וֹם זֶ֗רַע וּתְאֵנָ֤ה וְגֶ֙פֶן֙ וְרִמּ֔וֹן וּמַ֥יִם אַ֖יִן לִשְׁתּֽוֹת׃
