J'ai dit : Je prendrai garde à mes voies, afin que je ne pèche point par ma langue ; je garderai ma bouche avec une muselière pendant que le méchant est devant moi.

Si une mauvaise pensée tentait de vous assaillir, chassez-là. Observer cette pratique représente une véritable bride qui nous retient ; la constance de cette règle est la main qui tient cette bride. Quand il nous est impossible d'être séparé des impies, rappelons-nous qu'ils observent notre langage pour le tourner, s'ils le peuvent, à notre désavantage. Quelquefois, il est nécessaire de garder le silence, même s'il s'agit de paroles de réconfort ; mais en général, à chaque fois que nous engageons de vains discours, qui peuvent même nous paraître édifiants, nous avons tort.

L'impatience est un péché qui vient du plus profond de nous mêmes, méditons bien cela ; et ce mal, qui nous affecte vraiment, nous brûle littéralement. Chaque homme, lorsqu'il se trouve au point culminant de sa santé et de sa prospérité, peut céder au piège de la vanité et voir sa vie ôtée ; il peut mourir d'un moment à l'autre. C'est une vérité indéniable que nous refusons d'admettre. Nous devrions, de ce fait, prier que Dieu nous avertisse, par l'Esprit Saint, et qu'il remplisse notre cœur de sa grâce afin que nous soyons prêts à Le rejoindre à n'importe quel moment de notre existence.
