Le [Dieu] Fort l'entendra, et les accablera ; car il préside de toute ancienneté ; Sélah ! Parce qu'il n'y a point de changement en eux, et qu'ils ne craignent point Dieu.

Dieu entendra et leur répondra. La réponse aux prières du psalmiste sera adressée aux ennemis, sous forme de jugement.

Qui trône..., littéralement : qui siège (comme juge) éternellement ; pensée que l'on trouve fréquemment dans les Psaumes (7.8 ; 9.8, etc.). On est étonné de voir un Séla interrompre ici brusquement, non seulement une strophe, ce qui est fréquent, mais un verset. Il faut se représenter quelques accords de musique donnant essor aux sentiments que provoque la justice éternelle de Dieu, en regard de la perversité humaine. C'est un élan d'adoration semblable à ceux qui interrompent parfois les développements de la pensée de saint Paul (Romains 9.5).
