1 à 17 Le rejet du Messie, cause d'une nouvelle ruine d'Israël.

Ouvre tes portes, Liban. On croirait au premier coup d'œil que le Liban est désigné ici comme la porte du pays d'Israël du côté du nord et que le prophète annonce ainsi une invasion arrivant de ce côté-là et qui doit, avant tout, frapper le pays des dix tribus ; mais la suite prouve que le Liban est nommé ici comme le symbole de tout ce qu'il y a de plus élevé dans le peuple entier, en particulier la capitale, Jérusalem, et même, comme l'ont pensé les anciens interprètes juifs, le temple. Le palais de Salomon sur Sion avait reçu le nom de maison de la forêt du Liban, à cause de l'abondance de bois de cèdre qui y avait été employée (1Rois 7.2 ; comparez Jérémie 22.23, où les habitants de Sion sont appelés ceux qui habitent dans le Liban.

\\1-3\\ La destruction de Jérusalem et de la nation juive est annoncée dans ce texte, sous forme d’expressions figuratives ; le Seigneur Jésus a également prophétisé clairement sur ce sujet dans les évangiles, annonçant que ce temps de destruction était proche.

Comment de frêles sapins peuvent-ils rester debout, si les cèdres vigoureux tombent ? Quand les sages et les hommes bons sombrent dans le péché, entrainant avec eux les riches et les grands de ce monde, une vigilance toute particulière doit être observée.

Au verset trois, nous pouvons constater combien il est triste pour un peuple, d'avoir comme bergers, de jeunes « lions », et de voir « l’orgueil du Jourdain » ainsi dévasté... Quand la rivière a débordé, les « lions » en sont sortis, rugissant. Le triste sort qui a été réservé à Jérusalem à cette époque devrait peut-être nous interpeler...
