Ce sont les clans des Tsoreatiens.3 Voici (les descendants du) père d’Étam : Jizréel, Yichma et Yidbah ; le nom de leur sœur était Hatselelponi.4 Penouél était père de Guedor et Ézer père de Houcha. Ce sont là les fils de Hour, premier-né d’Éphrata, père de Bethléhem.5 Achhour, père de Teqoa, eut deux femmes, Hélea et Naara.6 Naara lui enfanta Ahouzzam, Hépher, Témeni et Ahachtari : ce sont là les fils de Naara.7 Fils de Hélea : Tséréth, Tsohar et Étnân.8 Qots engendra Anoub et Hatsobéba, et les clans d’Aharehél, fils d’Haroum.9 Yaebets était plus considéré que ses frères, sa mère l’appela du nom de Yaebets en disant : C’est parce que je l’ai enfanté dans la douleur.10 Yaebets invoqua le Dieu d’Israël, en disant : Si tu me combles de bénédictions et que tu étendes mes limites, si ta main est avec moi, et si tu fais que, loin du malheur, j’échappe à la douleur !... Et Dieu accorda ce qu’il avait demandé.11 Keloub, frère de Chouha, engendra Mehir, qui fut père d’Échtôn.12 Échtôn engendra la maison de Rapha, Paséah, et Tehinna, père de la ville de Nahach. Ce sont là les hommes de Réka.13 Fils de Qenaz : Otniel et Seraya. Fils d’Otniel : Hatath14 et Meonotaï (qui) engendra Ophra. (La femme de Méred) conçut Miryam, Chammaï, et Yichbah, père d’Échtemoa.18 Sa femme, la Judéenne, enfanta Yéred, père de Guedor, Héber, père de Soko, et Yeqoutiel, père de Zanoah. Ce sont là les fils de Bitya, fille du Pharaon, que Méred avait prise (pour femme).19 Fils de la femme d’Hodiya, sœur de Naham : le père de Qeïla, le Garmien, et Échtemoa, le Maakathien.20 Fils de Simon : Amnon, Rinna, Ben-Hanan et Tilôn. 24 Fils de Siméon : Nemouel, Yamîn, Yarib, Zérah, Saül ;25 Challoum, son fils ; Mibsam, son fils, Michma, son fils.26 Fils de Michma : Hammouel, son fils ; Zakkour, son fils ; Chiméï, son fils.27 Chiméï eut seize fils et six filles. Ses frères n’eurent pas beaucoup de fils. Tous leurs clans ne se multiplièrent pas autant que les fils de Juda.28 Ils habitaient à Beér-Chéba, à Molada, à Hatsar-Choual,29 à Bilha, à Étsém, à Tolad,30 à Betouel, à Horma, à Tsiqlag,31 à Beth-Markaboth, à Hatsar-Sousim, à Beth-Bireï et à Chaaraïm. Telles furent jusqu’au règne de David,32 leurs villes et leurs villages ainsi qu’Étam, Aïn, Rimmôn, Tokên et Achân, cinq villes ;33 et tous les villages aux environs de ces villes, jusqu’à Baal. Voilà leurs habitations et leur généalogie.34 Mechobad ; Yamlek ; Yocha, fils d’Amatsia ;35 Joël, Jéhu, fils de Yochibia, fils de Seraya, fils d’Asiel,36 Élyoénaï, Yaaqoba ; Yechohaya, Asaya, Adiel, Yesimiel, Benaya,37 Ziza, fils de Chipheï, fils d’Allôn, fils de Yedaya, fils de Chimri, fils de Chemaeya.38 Ceux qui viennent d’être nommés, étaient princes dans leurs clans, et leurs familles prirent un grand accroissement.39 Ils allèrent vers l’entrée de Guedor jusqu’à l’orient de la vallée, afin de chercher des pâturages pour leur petit bétail.40 Ils trouvèrent de gras et bons pâturages, et un pays vaste, tranquille et paisible, car ceux qui l’habitaient auparavant descendaient de Cham.41 Du temps d’Ézéchias, roi de Juda, ces hommes, inscrits par leurs noms, arrivèrent ; ils abattirent les tentes et les abris qui se trouvaient là, ils vouèrent les habitants à l’interdit jusqu’à ce jour, et ils s’établirent à leur place, car il y avait là des pâturages pour leur petit bétail.42 Il y eut aussi des fils de Siméon, au nombre de cinq cents hommes, qui se rendirent dans les monts de Séir. Ils avaient à leur tête Pelatia, Nearia, Rephaya et Ouzziel, fils de Yicheï.43 Ils battirent le reste des rescapés d’Amalec, et ont habité là jusqu’à aujourd’hui. -

Généalogies.
- Dans ce chapitre nous avons une autre description de Juda, la plus grande et la plus célèbre de toutes les tribus d'Israël ; nous avons également un exposé sur celle de Siméon. La personne la plus remarquable de ce texte est Jahbets. Il ne nous est pas dit pourquoi ce personnage était plus honorable que ses frères, mais nous pouvons constater qu'il s'agissait d'un homme de prière.Le meilleur moyen pour devenir puissant, est de chercher à accomplir la volonté divine, en priant d'un cœur sincère. C'est ce que fit Jahbets. Il s'adressa au Dieu Vivant et Véritable, le Seul qui puisse entendre la prière et y répondre ; dans sa requête, il était convaincu que Dieu respecterait Ses engagements envers Son peuple. Jahbets ne mentionna pas directement ces Promesses, pour inciter le lecteur à se les remémorer ; il avait peur de se confier en sa propre force, et résolut délibérément de se consacrer entièrement à Dieu.
« Éternel, si tu me bénis et si tu me gardes, que Ta Volonté soit accomplie ; je serai soumis à Tes ordonnances, étant sans cesse à Ton service ». Comme le texte le mentionne, c'était un désir vraiment ardent : « Oh Dieu, veuille me bénir abondamment » !
Jahbets pria pour quatre sujets. - Que Dieu puisse vraiment le bénir. Les bénédictions spirituelles sont les meilleures qui soient : elles sont véritables et agissantes. - Qu'Il étende ses limites. Ce Dieu, qui fait croître l'élan de notre cœur, qui augmente en nous Sa connaissance, et qui nous permet d'entrevoir le « Canaan spirituel » merveilleux, doit être l'objet de tous nos désirs et de nos prières. - Que la main de Dieu soit avec lui. Cette main divine est sur nous, afin de nous conduire, de nous protéger, de nous donner la force, et de nous diriger dans toutes nos tâches : c'est une main toute-suffisante ! - Que Dieu le préserve de la pratique du mal et du péché ; qu'Il le garde de l'épreuve, le mette à labri de ses ennemis, afin que ceux-ci ne puissent pas l'atteindre, ni le transformer en « homme de douleur ».
Dieu lui accorda sa requête. Notre Père est toujours disposé à écouter la prière des Siens : Son oreille n'est jamais « sourde » !

Autres colonnes
Josué 19.2-8 a également la division des villes en deux groupes, mais n'a pas la notice de la fin de ce verset. Cette notice, placée entre les deux groupes, indique que les villes du premier groupe cessèrent d'être siméonites depuis que sous David la tribu de Juda prit un nouvel essor. Tsiklag, quelque temps auparavant, avait déjà été prise à Siméon par les Philistins. Voir à Jos 19.2-8.
