Dans ce cas il faut traduire en modifiant légèrement le texte : Et les Lévites étaient aussi chargés de la surveillance des chambres et des trésors de la maison de Dieu. Mais comme au verset 27 il est de nouveau question des portiers, il nous semble plus simple de penser que dans la fin du verset 26 il est encore question d'eux et que l'auteur veut simplement dire que, outre la surveillance générale du temple, ils étaient spécialement chargés de garder les chambres qui entouraient le temple et dans lesquelles étaient déposés les trésors sacrés. On peut envisager la mention qu'ils étaient des Lévites, absolument inutile dans le contexte, comme une glose postérieure amenée par verset 28.
