1 Corinthiens 9.21

pour ceux qui étaient sans loi, comme si j'étais sans loi (non que je sois sans loi quant à Dieu, mais je suis justement soumis à Christ), afin de gagner ceux qui étaient sans loi.
τοῖς ἀνόμοις ὡς ἄνομος, μὴ ὢν ἄνομος θεοῦ ἀλλ’ ἔννομος Χριστοῦ, ἵνα κερδάνω τοὺς ἀνόμους·
Avec ceux qui ne connaissent pas la loi de Moïse, je vis comme si je n’avais pas cette loi, pour gagner ceux qui ne la connaissent pas. Pourtant, j’ai la loi de Dieu, puisque j’obéis à la loi du Christ.

Paul désigne les païens comme ceux qui sont sans loi, sans la loi divine révélée ; et il n'astreignait ni lui ni eux aux usages religieux des Juifs, qui les eussent éloignés. Il n'évitait point d'entrer en relation avec eux, et dans sa prédication, il se mettait à leur point de vue. (Actes 17)

Cependant, comme ce mot sans loi (anomos), appliqué à l'apôtre, pouvait être mal compris, il l'explique dans une parenthèse, dont voici la traduction littérale : "n'étant point sans loi à Dieu, mais dans la loi à Christ."

Etre à Christ, c'est bien réellement être dans la loi de Moïse, mais la loi accomplie. (Matthieu 5.17 ; Romains 3.31 ; 8.4)
