Cette haine dont ils sont les objets de la part du monde (voir sur le sens de ce mot 1Jean 2.15,16, note) ne doit pas les étonner ; elle leur montre qu'ils sont de Dieu, puisqu'ils rencontrent la même hostilité à laquelle Abel fut exposé de la part de Caïn.

Les paroles et surtout l'exemple de leur divin Maître les avertissaient de cette opposition absolue du monde. (Jean 15.18,19)
