Il fermait la brèche. Ce terme de brèche désigne le ravin du Tyropéon qui, séparant les deux collines sur lesquelles Jérusalem était bâtie, offrait une entrée aux ennemis pour pénétrer dans la ville haute, dont le versant de ce côté n'était pas aussi abrupt que celui de la colline orientale. Le remblai que David avait déjà bâti là (2Samuel 5.9) fut changé en une forteresse par Salomon ; comparez 1Rois 9.15.
