L'Éternel dit à Salomon, qu'il devait s'attendre à être puni pour son apostasie. Bien que nous ayons des raisons d'espérer que le roi se soit repenti et soit encore au bénéfice de la Grâce, le Saint-Esprit, malgré tout, n'a pas expressément enregistré de regrets de sa part, et cherchait à le mettre en garde, afin qu'il renonce à se livrer de nouveau à l'iniquité.

Il est toujours possible d'arrêter la pratique d'un péché, mais en cas de non repentance, le reproche divin subsistera à jamais. Jusqu'au jour du jugement, nous sommes dans l'incertitude de savoir si Salomon, souffrira le mécontentement éternel, d'un Dieu offensé.
