World English Bible Now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.'"

Application de la sentence précédente : au lieu du simple fouet (dont on se servait pour punir les esclaves), moi je me servirai du fouet armé de pointes (instrument de supplice destiné aux criminels ; Deutéronome 25.3). Ce fouet était aussi appelé scorpion par les Romains, parce que les lanières étaient pourvues de pointes recourbées, analogues au dard du scorpion.
