Jéroboam dit en son cœur... Ayant pourvu à la sûreté extérieure de son royaume, il songe à consolider son règne au-dedans. La coutume des pèlerinages à Jérusalem, à l'occasion des grandes fêtes religieuses, pouvait facilement rapprocher son peuple de celui de Juda (2Chroniques 11.16). Pour conjurer ce danger, Jéroboam aurait dû s'en rapporter à Diou et à sa promesse (11.37-38).
