Et [ce Prophète] lui dit : Ainsi a dit l'Eternel, parce que tu as laissé aller d'entre tes mains l'homme que j'avais condamné à l'interdit, ta vie répondra pour la sienne, et ton peuple pour son peuple.

World English Bible He said to him, "Thus says Yahweh, 'Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.'"

Roi et peuple sont solidaires ; leur vie et leur bien-être seront le salaire qu'ils devront payer en réparation de la vie de Ben-Hadad qu'ils ont épargnée, tandis que Dieu leur avait livré cet ennemi pour qu'ils missent fin à son pouvoir.

L'homme que j'avais voué à la destruction, littéralement l'homme de mon interdit ; un homme qui, à mes yeux, ne méritait que la mort. Tu seras interdit à sa place, voir Lévitique 27.21,28, note.

      9 But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the cattle, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and wouldn't utterly destroy them: but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
      10 Then the word of Yahweh came to Samuel, saying,
      11 "It grieves me that I have set up Saul to be king; for he is turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments." Samuel was angry; and he cried to Yahweh all night.

      32 It happened, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, "Surely that is the king of Israel!" and they turned aside to fight against him. Jehoshaphat cried out.

      34 A certain man drew his bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of the armor. Therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, "Turn your hand, and carry me out of the battle; for I am severely wounded."
      35 The battle increased that day. The king was propped up in his chariot facing the Syrians, and died at evening. The blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot.
      36 A cry went throughout the army about the going down of the sun, saying, "Every man to his city, and every man to his country!"
      37 So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.
