David déplora de tout son cœur les calamités accomplies par Saül. Il est vraiment éprouvant pour un homme juste, de se trouver involontairement mêlé à de fâcheux évènements. David dut beaucoup souffrir en voyant que les supercheries de Saül étaient à l'origine de ces mises à mort. David témoigna avec assurance de la paix de son cœur, il promit à Abiathar que ce dernier bénéficierait de sa protection.

Avec le « Fils de David », Christ, tous ceux qui sont en Lui peuvent être assurés de trouver le salut, Psaume 91:1. Dans la hâte et la confusion, David était continuellement sur ses gardes ; il trouva malgré cela du temps pour entrer en communion avec Dieu, et bénéficia ainsi du réconfort qui en résulte.
