12 à 17 L'efficacité de la grâce prouvée par l'expérience de Paul.

Grec : "pour le service."

- La mention de l'Evangile qui lui a été confié (1Timothée 1.11) conduit Paul à proclamer la parfaite gratuité de ce don, qu'il oppose aux mérites acquis au moyen de la loi. (1Timothée 1.8 et suivants) Or, la manière la plus frappante d'exprimer cette vérité, c'est assurément de la montrer réalisée dans un fait, dans sa propre histoire qu'il rappelle ici., (1Timothée 1.12-17) pour en conclure la grande affirmation de 1Timothée 1.15.

Ainsi s'explique et se justifie cette apparente digression qui rentre parfaitement dans l'ensemble de la pensée de l'apôtre.

- Par cette action de grâces, Paul attribue à Jésus-Christ son Seigneur, toute la force qu'il a mise ensuite au service de son Maître. S'il mentionne sa propre fidélité, c'est assurément pour la faire remonter à la même source, comme le prouve abondamment la profonde humilité, la douloureuse repentance avec laquelle il va parler de lui-même.

L'apôtre savait qu'il eut été juste qu'il périsse, si le Seigneur avait voulu sanctionner sévèrement les fautes, commises auparavant ; il en aurait été de même, si la Grâce et la Miséricorde divine n'avaient pas surabondé, en plaçant dans le cœur de Paul, alors mort au péché, la foi et l'amour pour son Sauveur.

C'est une parole fidèle, une parole de Vérité, sur laquelle on peut s'appuyer : le Fils de Dieu est venu volontairement dans le monde, dans le but de sauver les pécheurs. Aucun homme, à l'exemple de Paul, ne peut remettre en question l'Amour et le pouvoir de Christ pour sauver les pécheurs. Il en est de même pour toute âme désirant vraiment se confier en Lui, le Fils de Dieu, jadis mort sur la croix, et qui désormais règne sur le trône de gloire, pour sauver tous ceux qui s’approchent de Dieu.

Louons et admirons ce Sauveur et cette Grâce ; attribuons au Père, au Fils, et au Saint-Esprit, les trois Personnes dans l'unité de la Divinité, la gloire de tout ce qui est réalisé en nous et pour nous !
