La place qu'occupe dans ce passage ce grand et beau mot de vérité, montre qu'ici, comme partout, l'Ecriture attache à ce mot un sens moral, et non seulement intellectuel.

La vérité divine est une puissance qui, à la fois, éclaire et sanctifie, (comparez Jean 17.17, note) tandis que l'erreur, qui a aussi sa puissance morale, produit les tristes fruits que l'apôtre énumère ici.

Il faut prendre ce mot dans son sens matériel : gain d'argent, ( 1.11) par leur position dans l'Eglise où ils occupent des places, ou d'autre manière encore.

- Le texte reçu ajoute à ces derniers mots : "sépare-toi de ceux qui sont tels," mais sans autorités suffisantes.
