Segond 21 Il lui adressa des prières et l'Eternel se laissa fléchir : il exauça ses supplications et le ramena à Jérusalem dans son royaume. Manassé reconnut alors que c’est l'Eternel qui est Dieu.

World English Bible He prayed to him; and he was entreated by him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that Yahweh was God.

Il le pria. Les sources de notre auteur renfermaient la requête de Manassé, (comparez verset 18), mais il ne l'a pas recueillie. Elle ne peut du reste être assimilée au livre apocryphe intitulé Prière de Manassé que donnent les LXX, et qui est certainement une composition postérieure au livre des Chroniques et reposant précisément sur les indications de notre verset.

Le rétablit à Jérusalem. Le retour de Manassé ne saurait être mis en doute, car d'après 2 Rois comme d'après 2 Chroniques, il est mort à Jérusalem. Nous savons également que Néco fut renvoyé dans son pays, de sorte que ce que notre verset raconte de Manassé n'est point invraisemblable.
