Quant au ciel et à la terre actuels, la même parole de Dieu les tient en réserve pour le feu qui les détruira. Ils sont gardés pour le jour du jugement et de la ruine des pécheurs.

World English Bible But the heavens that now are, and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

Grec : thésaurisés (participe parfait), conservés comme un trésor pour le feu, et cela par la mettre parole (B. A), ou, selon une variante, par sa parole. (Sin.. C.) Donc la même Parole qui conserve le monde peut le laisser périr ou le renouveler.

Esaïe 66.15,Matthieu 3.12 ; 2Thessaloniciens 1.7,8. Les eaux du déluge ne firent que renouveler la surface de la terre par la destruction de ce qui y était ; au jour du jugement, le feu opérera une rénovation totale, qui, par la destruction des hommes impies, rendra la terre glorieuse et digne de sa destination primitive.
