Une double part : non le double de ce qu'avait possédé Elie, mais une double portion de l'héritage que, comme père spirituel, il laisse à ses enfants, les prophètes. Elisée demande à être traité comme le fils aîné (Deutéronome 21.17).

Ton Esprit. L'Esprit de Dieu tel qu'il se manifestait chez Elie ; esprit de zèle brûlant et de force sainte, en rapport avec les besoins du peuple à cette époque.

Cette plénitude, que les prophètes et les apôtres ont possédée, a existé de tous temps, et la Parole nous recommande de ne pas hésiter à la demander au Seigneur, dans une large mesure !

L'assistance divine dont Élie bénéficiait, en particulier en ses dernières heures ici-bas, était pour Élisée une faveur enviable, surtout en ce qui concernait l'onction de l'Esprit. La plénitude spirituelle des saints quittant ce monde, ainsi que leurs expériences, ne peuvent que nous encourager à renforcer notre zèle pour le Seigneur.

Élie fut enlevé au ciel dans un char de feu. On pourrait se poser beaucoup de questions à ce sujet, auxquelles d'ailleurs aucune réponse valable ne saurait être donnée. Contentons-nous de ce que nous décrit la Parole ! Que le Seigneur, lors de Sa venue, puisse être satisfait de notre travail ici-bas. Élie avait la charge de témoigner de la grandeur de l'Éternel ; il encouragea et enseigna Élisée à témoigner ici-bas, de la puissance du royaume de Dieu, parmi les hommes. Nous nous méprenons, si nous estimons que la préparation pour la patrie céleste réside uniquement dans la contemplation du Seigneur et dans la pratique de la piété.

Le char et les chevaux sont apparus, entourés de feu ; cela ne signifiait nullement l'idée d'un jugement, mais plutôt une notion de l'éclat de la Gloire de l'Éternel. Par la manière dont Élie et Énoch furent enlevés de ce monde, Dieu donna une vision fugitive de la vie éternelle, révélée par l'évangile, de la gloire qui est réservée aux corps des saints, et de l'ouverture du royaume des cieux à tous les croyants. C'était également une image de l'ascension de Christ. Élie monta au ciel de manière triomphale et le monde ne put le retenir. Les cœurs de certains sont vraiment endurcis lorsqu'ils restent totalement passifs et insensibles, face au rappel vers la patrie céleste, des fidèles serviteurs de Dieu.

Élie fut pour le peuple d'Israël, par ses conseils, ses réprimandes, et ses prières, plus efficace que la démonstration de puissance du char et du cheval de feu, et de plus, il a retenu les jugements divins, sur le point d'être exécutés. De la même manière qu'Élie laissa son manteau à son serviteur, Christ a légué à ses disciples, Son précieux évangile ; la manifestation de la puissance divine a toujours renversé les desseins funestes sataniques, pour établir le royaume de Dieu en ce monde. Le même évangile demeure toujours parmi nous ; bien que de nos jours, les manifestations miraculeuses ne soient plus aussi fréquentes, la puissance divine nécessaire à la conversion et au salut des pécheurs, est toujours aussi active et efficace !
