וְאִשָּׁ֣ה אַחַ֣ת מִנְּשֵׁ֣י בְנֵֽי־הַ֠נְּבִיאִים צָעֲקָ֨ה אֶל־אֱלִישָׁ֜ע לֵאמֹ֗ר עַבְדְּךָ֤ אִישִׁי֙ מֵ֔ת וְאַתָּ֣ה יָדַ֔עְתָּ כִּ֣י עַבְדְּךָ֔ הָיָ֥ה יָרֵ֖א אֶת־יְהוָ֑ה וְהַ֨נֹּשֶׁ֔ה בָּ֗א לָקַ֜חַת אֶת־שְׁנֵ֧י יְלָדַ֛י ל֖וֹ לַעֲבָדִֽים׃

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלֶ֤יהָ אֱלִישָׁע֙ מָ֣ה אֶֽעֱשֶׂה־לָּ֔ךְ הַגִּ֣ידִי לִ֔י מַה־יֶּשׁ־*לכי **לָ֖ךְ בַּבָּ֑יִת וַתֹּ֗אמֶר אֵ֣ין לְשִׁפְחָתְךָ֥ כֹל֙ בַּבַּ֔יִת כִּ֖י אִם־אָס֥וּךְ שָֽׁמֶן׃

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר לְכִ֨י שַׁאֲלִי־לָ֤ךְ כֵּלִים֙ מִן־הַח֔וּץ מֵאֵ֖ת כָּל־*שכנכי **שְׁכֵנָ֑יִךְ כֵּלִ֥ים רֵקִ֖ים אַל־תַּמְעִֽיטִי׃

וּבָ֗את וְסָגַ֤רְתְּ הַדֶּ֙לֶת֙ בַּעֲדֵ֣ךְ וּבְעַד־בָּנַ֔יִךְ וְיָצַ֕קְתְּ עַ֥ל כָּל־הַכֵּלִ֖ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה וְהַמָּלֵ֖א תַּסִּֽיעִי׃

וַתֵּ֙לֶךְ֙ מֵֽאִתּ֔וֹ וַתִּסְגֹּ֣ר הַדֶּ֔לֶת בַּעֲדָ֖הּ וּבְעַ֣ד בָּנֶ֑יהָ הֵ֛ם מַגִּשִׁ֥ים אֵלֶ֖יהָ וְהִ֥יא *מיצקת **מוֹצָֽקֶת׃
6
וַיְהִ֣י ׀ כִּמְלֹ֣את הַכֵּלִ֗ים וַתֹּ֤אמֶר אֶל־בְּנָהּ֙ הַגִּ֨ישָׁה אֵלַ֥י עוֹד֙ כֶּ֔לִי וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלֶ֔יהָ אֵ֥ין ע֖וֹד כֶּ֑לִי וַֽיַּעֲמֹ֖ד הַשָּֽׁמֶן׃
7
וַתָּבֹ֗א וַתַּגֵּד֙ לְאִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים וַיֹּ֗אמֶר לְכִי֙ מִכְרִ֣י אֶת־הַשֶּׁ֔מֶן וְשַׁלְּמִ֖י אֶת־*נשיכי **נִשְׁיֵ֑ךְ וְאַ֣תְּ *בניכי **וּבָנַ֔יִךְ תִֽחְיִ֖י בַּנּוֹתָֽר׃

וַיְהִ֨י הַיּ֜וֹם וַיַּעֲבֹ֧ר אֱלִישָׁ֣ע אֶל־שׁוּנֵ֗ם וְשָׁם֙ אִשָּׁ֣ה גְדוֹלָ֔ה וַתַּחֲזֶק־בּ֖וֹ לֶאֱכָל־לָ֑חֶם וַֽיְהִי֙ מִדֵּ֣י עָבְר֔וֹ יָסֻ֥ר שָׁ֖מָּה לֶאֱכָל־לָֽחֶם׃
9
וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־אִישָׁ֔הּ הִנֵּה־נָ֣א יָדַ֔עְתִּי כִּ֛י אִ֥ישׁ אֱלֹהִ֖ים קָד֣וֹשׁ ה֑וּא עֹבֵ֥ר עָלֵ֖ינוּ תָּמִֽיד׃
10
נַֽעֲשֶׂה־נָּ֤א עֲלִיַּת־קִיר֙ קְטַנָּ֔ה וְנָשִׂ֨ים ל֥וֹ שָׁ֛ם מִטָּ֥ה וְשֻׁלְחָ֖ן וְכִסֵּ֣א וּמְנוֹרָ֑ה וְהָיָ֛ה בְּבֹא֥וֹ אֵלֵ֖ינוּ יָס֥וּר שָֽׁמָּה׃
11
וַיְהִ֥י הַיּ֖וֹם וַיָּ֣בֹא שָׁ֑מָּה וַיָּ֥סַר אֶל־הָעֲלִיָּ֖ה וַיִּשְׁכַּב־שָֽׁמָּה׃
12
וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־גֵּחֲזִ֣י נַעֲר֔וֹ קְרָ֖א לַשּׁוּנַמִּ֣ית הַזֹּ֑את וַיִּקְרָא־לָ֔הּ וַֽתַּעֲמֹ֖ד לְפָנָֽיו׃
13
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ אֱמָר־נָ֣א אֵלֶיהָ֮ הִנֵּ֣ה חָרַ֣דְתְּ ׀ אֵלֵינוּ֮ אֶת־כָּל־הַחֲרָדָ֣ה הַזֹּאת֒ מֶ֚ה לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת לָ֔ךְ הֲיֵ֤שׁ לְדַבֶּר־לָךְ֙ אֶל־הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ א֖וֹ אֶל־שַׂ֣ר הַצָּבָ֑א וַתֹּ֕אמֶר בְּת֥וֹךְ עַמִּ֖י אָנֹכִ֥י יֹשָֽׁבֶת׃

וַיֹּ֕אמֶר וּמֶ֖ה לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת לָ֑הּ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר גֵּיחֲזִ֗י אֲבָ֛ל בֵּ֥ן אֵֽין־לָ֖הּ וְאִישָׁ֥הּ זָקֵֽן׃
15
וַיֹּ֖אמֶר קְרָא־לָ֑הּ וַיִּקְרָא־לָ֔הּ וַֽתַּעֲמֹ֖ד בַּפָּֽתַח׃
16
וַיֹּ֗אמֶר לַמּוֹעֵ֤ד הַזֶּה֙ כָּעֵ֣ת חַיָּ֔ה *אתי **אַ֖תְּ חֹבֶ֣קֶת בֵּ֑ן וַתֹּ֗אמֶר אַל־אֲדֹנִי֙ אִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים אַל־תְּכַזֵּ֖ב בְּשִׁפְחָתֶֽךָ׃
17
וַתַּ֥הַר הָאִשָּׁ֖ה וַתֵּ֣לֶד בֵּ֑ן לַמּוֹעֵ֤ד הַזֶּה֙ כָּעֵ֣ת חַיָּ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֥ר אֵלֶ֖יהָ אֱלִישָֽׁע׃

וַיִּגְדַּ֖ל הַיָּ֑לֶד וַיְהִ֣י הַיּ֔וֹם וַיֵּצֵ֥א אֶל־אָבִ֖יו אֶל־הַקֹּצְרִֽים׃
19
וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֶל־אָבִ֖יו רֹאשִׁ֣י ׀ רֹאשִׁ֑י וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־הַנַּ֔עַר שָׂאֵ֖הוּ אֶל־אִמּֽוֹ׃
20
וַיִּשָּׂאֵ֔הוּ וַיְבִיאֵ֖הוּ אֶל־אִמּ֑וֹ וַיֵּ֧שֶׁב עַל־בִּרְכֶּ֛יהָ עַד־הַֽצָּהֳרַ֖יִם וַיָּמֹֽת׃
21
וַתַּ֙עַל֙ וַתַּשְׁכִּבֵ֔הוּ עַל־מִטַּ֖ת אִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וַתִּסְגֹּ֥ר בַּעֲד֖וֹ וַתֵּצֵֽא׃
22
וַתִּקְרָא֮ אֶל־אִישָׁהּ֒ וַתֹּ֗אמֶר שִׁלְחָ֨ה נָ֥א לִי֙ אֶחָ֣ד מִן־הַנְּעָרִ֔ים וְאַחַ֖ת הָאֲתֹנ֑וֹת וְאָר֛וּצָה עַד־אִ֥ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים וְאָשֽׁוּבָה׃
23
וַיֹּ֗אמֶר מַ֠דּוּעַ *אתי **אַ֣תְּ *הלכתי **הֹלֶ֤כֶת אֵלָיו֙ הַיּ֔וֹם לֹֽא־חֹ֖דֶשׁ וְלֹ֣א שַׁבָּ֑ת וַתֹּ֖אמֶר שָׁלֽוֹם׃
24
וַֽתַּחֲבֹשׁ֙ הָֽאָת֔וֹן וַתֹּ֥אמֶר אֶֽל־נַעֲרָ֖הּ נְהַ֣ג וָלֵ֑ךְ אַל־תַּעֲצָר־לִ֣י לִרְכֹּ֔ב כִּ֖י אִם־אָמַ֥רְתִּי לָֽךְ׃
25
וַתֵּ֗לֶךְ וַתָּב֛וֹא אֶל־אִ֥ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶל־הַ֣ר הַכַּרְמֶ֑ל וַ֠יְהִי כִּרְא֨וֹת אִישׁ־הָאֱלֹהִ֤ים אֹתָהּ֙ מִנֶּ֔גֶד וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־גֵּיחֲזִ֣י נַעֲר֔וֹ הִנֵּ֖ה הַשּׁוּנַמִּ֥ית הַלָּֽז׃

עַתָּה֮ רֽוּץ־נָ֣א לִקְרָאתָהּ֒ וֶאֱמָר־לָ֗הּ הֲשָׁל֥וֹם לָ֛ךְ הֲשָׁל֥וֹם לְאִישֵׁ֖ךְ הֲשָׁל֣וֹם לַיָּ֑לֶד וַתֹּ֖אמֶר שָׁלֽוֹם׃
27
וַתָּבֹ֞א אֶל־אִ֤ישׁ הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ אֶל־הָהָ֔ר וַֽתַּחֲזֵ֖ק בְּרַגְלָ֑יו וַיִּגַּ֨שׁ גֵּֽיחֲזִ֜י לְהָדְפָ֗הּ וַיֹּאמֶר֩ אִ֨ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֤ים הַרְפֵּֽה־לָהּ֙ כִּֽי־נַפְשָׁ֣הּ מָֽרָה־לָ֔הּ וַֽיהוָה֙ הֶעְלִ֣ים מִמֶּ֔נִּי וְלֹ֥א הִגִּ֖יד לִֽי׃

וַתֹּ֕אמֶר הֲשָׁאַ֥לְתִּי בֵ֖ן מֵאֵ֣ת אֲדֹנִ֑י הֲלֹ֣א אָמַ֔רְתִּי לֹ֥א תַשְׁלֶ֖ה אֹתִֽי׃
29
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר לְגֵיחֲזִ֜י חֲגֹ֣ר מָתְנֶ֗יךָ וְקַ֨ח מִשְׁעַנְתִּ֣י בְיָדְךָ֮ וָלֵךְ֒ כִּֽי־תִמְצָ֥א אִישׁ֙ לֹ֣א תְבָרְכֶ֔נּוּ וְכִֽי־יְבָרֶכְךָ֥ אִ֖ישׁ לֹ֣א תַעֲנֶנּ֑וּ וְשַׂמְתָּ֥ מִשְׁעַנְתִּ֖י עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הַנָּֽעַר׃
30
וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֵ֣ם הַנַּ֔עַר חַי־יְהוָ֥ה וְחֵֽי־נַפְשְׁךָ֖ אִם־אֶעֶזְבֶ֑ךָּ וַיָּ֖קָם וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ אַחֲרֶֽיהָ׃
31
וְגֵחֲזִ֞י עָבַ֣ר לִפְנֵיהֶ֗ם וַיָּ֤שֶׂם אֶת־הַמִּשְׁעֶ֙נֶת֙ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הַנַּ֔עַר וְאֵ֥ין ק֖וֹל וְאֵ֣ין קָ֑שֶׁב וַיָּ֤שָׁב לִקְרָאתוֹ֙ וַיַּגֶּד־ל֣וֹ לֵאמֹ֔ר לֹ֥א הֵקִ֖יץ הַנָּֽעַר׃
32
וַיָּבֹ֥א אֱלִישָׁ֖ע הַבָּ֑יְתָה וְהִנֵּ֤ה הַנַּ֙עַר֙ מֵ֔ת מֻשְׁכָּ֖ב עַל־מִטָּתֽוֹ׃
33
וַיָּבֹ֕א וַיִּסְגֹּ֥ר הַדֶּ֖לֶת בְּעַ֣ד שְׁנֵיהֶ֑ם וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֖ל אֶל־יְהוָֽה׃

וַיַּ֜עַל וַיִּשְׁכַּ֣ב עַל־הַיֶּ֗לֶד וַיָּשֶׂם֩ פִּ֨יו עַל־פִּ֜יו וְעֵינָ֤יו עַל־עֵינָיו֙ וְכַפָּ֣יו עַל־*כפו **כַּפָּ֔יו וַיִּגְהַ֖ר עָלָ֑יו וַיָּ֖חָם בְּשַׂ֥ר הַיָּֽלֶד׃
35
וַיָּ֜שָׁב וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ בַּבַּ֗יִת אַחַ֥ת הֵ֙נָּה֙ וְאַחַ֣ת הֵ֔נָּה וַיַּ֖עַל וַיִּגְהַ֣ר עָלָ֑יו וַיְזוֹרֵ֤ר הַנַּ֙עַר֙ עַד־שֶׁ֣בַע פְּעָמִ֔ים וַיִּפְקַ֥ח הַנַּ֖עַר אֶת־עֵינָֽיו׃
36
וַיִּקְרָ֣א אֶל־גֵּיחֲזִ֗י וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ קְרָא֙ אֶל־הַשֻּׁנַמִּ֣ית הַזֹּ֔את וַיִּקְרָאֶ֖הָ וַתָּב֣וֹא אֵלָ֑יו וַיֹּ֖אמֶר שְׂאִ֥י בְנֵֽךְ׃
37
וַתָּבֹא֙ וַתִּפֹּ֣ל עַל־רַגְלָ֔יו וַתִּשְׁתַּ֖חוּ אָ֑רְצָה וַתִּשָּׂ֥א אֶת־בְּנָ֖הּ וַתֵּצֵֽא׃

וֶאֱלִישָׁ֞ע שָׁ֤ב הַגִּלְגָּ֙לָה֙ וְהָרָעָ֣ב בָּאָ֔רֶץ וּבְנֵי֙ הַנְּבִיאִ֔ים יֹשְׁבִ֖ים לְפָנָ֑יו וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לְנַעֲר֗וֹ שְׁפֹת֙ הַסִּ֣יר הַגְּדוֹלָ֔ה וּבַשֵּׁ֥ל נָזִ֖יד לִבְנֵ֥י הַנְּבִיאִֽים׃
39
וַיֵּצֵ֨א אֶחָ֣ד אֶל־הַשָּׂדֶה֮ לְלַקֵּ֣ט אֹרֹת֒ וַיִּמְצָא֙ גֶּ֣פֶן שָׂדֶ֔ה וַיְלַקֵּ֥ט מִמֶּ֛נּוּ פַּקֻּעֹ֥ת שָׂדֶ֖ה מְלֹ֣א בִגְד֑וֹ וַיָּבֹ֗א וַיְפַלַּ֛ח אֶל־סִ֥יר הַנָּזִ֖יד כִּֽי־לֹ֥א יָדָֽעוּ׃

וַיִּֽצְק֥וּ לַאֲנָשִׁ֖ים לֶאֱכ֑וֹל וַ֠יְהִי כְּאָכְלָ֨ם מֵהַנָּזִ֜יד וְהֵ֣מָּה צָעָ֗קוּ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ מָ֤וֶת בַּסִּיר֙ אִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים וְלֹ֥א יָכְל֖וּ לֶאֱכֹֽל׃
41
וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ וּקְחוּ־קֶ֔מַח וַיַּשְׁלֵ֖ךְ אֶל־הַסִּ֑יר וַיֹּ֗אמֶר צַ֤ק לָעָם֙ וְיֹאכֵ֔לוּ וְלֹ֥א הָיָ֛ה דָּבָ֥ר רָ֖ע בַּסִּֽיר׃

וְאִ֨ישׁ בָּ֜א מִבַּ֣עַל שָׁלִ֗שָׁה וַיָּבֵא֩ לְאִ֨ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֜ים לֶ֤חֶם בִּכּוּרִים֙ עֶשְׂרִֽים־לֶ֣חֶם שְׂעֹרִ֔ים וְכַרְמֶ֖ל בְּצִקְלֹנ֑וֹ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר תֵּ֥ן לָעָ֖ם וְיֹאכֵֽלוּ׃
43
וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ מְשָׁ֣רְת֔וֹ מָ֚ה אֶתֵּ֣ן זֶ֔ה לִפְנֵ֖י מֵ֣אָה אִ֑ישׁ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר תֵּ֤ן לָעָם֙ וְיֹאכֵ֔לוּ כִּ֣י כֹ֥ה אָמַ֛ר יְהוָ֖ה אָכֹ֥ל וְהוֹתֵֽר׃

וַיִּתֵּ֧ן לִפְנֵיהֶ֛ם וַיֹּאכְל֥וּ וַיּוֹתִ֖רוּ כִּדְבַ֥ר יְהוָֽה׃

Une femme parmi celles des fils des prophètes cria vers Élisée, en disant : Ton serviteur mon mari est mort, et tu sais que ton serviteur craignait l’Éternel ; or le créancier est venu pour prendre mes deux enfants et en faire ses esclaves.

Élisée lui dit : Que puis-je faire pour toi ? Indique-moi ce que tu as à la maison. Elle répondit : Ta servante n’a rien d’autre à la maison qu’un flacon d’huile.

Il dit alors : Va demander au dehors des récipients chez tous tes voisins, des récipients vides et n’en demande pas un petit nombre.

Quand tu seras rentrée, tu fermeras la porte sur toi et sur tes fils ; tu verseras (de l’huile) dans tous ces récipients et tu mettras de côté ceux qui seront pleins.

Alors elle le quitta. Elle ferma la porte sur elle et sur ses fils ; ils lui avançaient (les récipients), et elle versait.

Lorsque les récipients furent pleins, elle dit à son fils : Avance-moi encore un récipient. Mais il lui répondit : Il n’y a plus de récipient. Alors l’huile s’arrêta.

Elle alla le rapporter à l’homme de Dieu, et il dit : Va vendre l’huile et paie ta dette ; et tu vivras, toi et tes fils, de ce qui restera.
Élisée au village de Chounem

Un jour Élisée passait par Sunem. Il y avait là une femme de haut rang, qui le pressa d’accepter à manger. Dès lors, toutes les fois qu’il passait, il se retirait chez elle pour manger.

Elle dit à son mari : Voici : je sais que cet homme qui passe toujours chez nous est un saint homme de Dieu.

Faisons une petite chambre haute en dur, et mettons-y pour lui un lit, une table, un siège et un chandelier, afin qu’il s’y retire quand il viendra chez nous.

Un jour Élisée arriva là, il se retira dans la chambre haute et y coucha.

Il dit à son jeune serviteur Guéhazi : Appelle cette Sunamite. Guéhazi l’appela, et elle se tint devant lui.

Élisée dit à Guéhazi : Dis-lui : Tu nous a montré tout cet empressement ; que peut-on faire pour toi ? Faut-il parler pour toi au roi ou au chef de l’armée ? Elle répondit : J’habite au milieu de mon peuple.

Il dit alors : Que faire pour elle ? Guéhazi répondit : Mais, elle n’a point de fils, et son mari est vieux.

Élisée dit : Appelle-la. Guéhazi l’appela, et elle se tint à la porte.

Élisée lui dit : A cette même époque, l’année prochaine, tu embrasseras un fils. Elle dit alors : Non ! mon seigneur, homme de Dieu, ne déçois pas ta servante !

Cette femme devint enceinte. Elle enfanta un fils à la même époque, l’année suivante, comme Élisée le lui avait dit.
Élisée rend la vie au fils de son hôtesse

L’enfant grandit. Un jour qu’il était sorti vers son père, auprès des moissonneurs,

il dit à son père : Ma tête ! ma tête ! Le père dit à son jeune serviteur : Porte-le à sa mère.

(Le serviteur) l’emporta et l’amena à sa mère# ; l’enfant resta sur les genoux de sa mère jusqu’à midi, puis il mourut.

Elle monta, le coucha sur le lit de l’homme de Dieu, ferma (la porte) sur lui et sortit.
22
Elle appela son mari et dit : Envoie-moi, je te prie, un des jeunes serviteurs et une des ânesses ; je cours chez l’homme de Dieu et je reviens.
23
Il dit : Pourquoi vas-tu aujourd’hui chez lui ? Ce n’est ni nouvelle lune ni sabbat. Elle répondit : Tout va bien.
24
Puis elle fit seller l’ânesse et dit à son jeune serviteur : Conduis-la et marche, ne m’arrête pas en route sans que je te le dise.

Elle partit donc et se rendit vers l’homme de Dieu sur le mont Carmel. Quand l’homme de Dieu l’aperçut de loin, il dit à son jeune serviteur Guéhazi : Voici cette Sunamite !

Maintenant, cours donc à sa rencontre et dis-lui : Vas-tu bien ? Ton mari va-t-il bien ? L’enfant va-t-il bien ? Elle répondit : Bien.

Dès qu’elle fut arrivée auprès de l’homme de Dieu sur la montagne, elle étreignit ses pieds. Guéhazi s’approcha pour la repousser. Mais l’homme de Dieu dit : Laisse-la, car son âme est dans l’amertume ; or l’Éternel me l’a caché et ne m’en a pas averti.

Alors elle dit : Ai-je demandé un fils à mon seigneur ? N’ai-je pas dit : Ne me trompe pas ?

Élisée dit à Guéhazi : Mets une ceinture à tes reins, prends mon bâton dans ta main et pars. Si tu rencontres quelqu’un, ne le salue pas ; et si quelqu’un te salue, ne lui réponds pas. Tu mettras mon bâton sur le visage de petit garçon.

La mère du petit garçon dit : L’Éternel est vivant et ton âme est vivante ! je ne te quitterai pas ! Alors il se leva et la suivit.

Guéhazi les avait devancés et il avait mis le bâton sur le visage du petit garçon ; mais il n’y eut ni voix ni signe d’attention. Il revient à la rencontre d’Élisée et le mit au courant en disant : Le petit garçon ne s’est pas réveillé.

Lorsqu’Élisée entra dans la maison, voici que le petit garçon était mort, couché sur son lit.

Élisée entra et ferma la porte sur eux deux pour prier l’Éternel.

Il monta et se coucha sur l’enfant ; il mit sa bouche sur sa bouche, ses yeux sur ses yeux, ses mains sur ses mains. Il resta courbé sur lui, et le corps de l’enfant se réchauffa.

Élisée revint pour aller çà et là par la maison, puis remonta et se courba sur (l’enfant) ; alors le petit garçon éternua sept fois et ouvrit les yeux.

Élisée appela Guéhazi et dit : Appelle cette Sunamite. Guéhazi l’appela, et elle vint vers Élisée qui dit : Prends ton fils !

Elle alla se jeter à ses pieds, se prosterna contre terre, prit son fils et sortit.
La soupe immangeable

Élisée revint à Guilgal. Or il y avait une famine dans le pays. Comme les fils des prophètes étaient assis devant lui, il dit à son jeune serviteur : Prépare la grande marmite et fais cuire un potage pour les fils des prophètes.

L’un d’eux sortit dans la campagne pour ramasser des légumes ; il trouva une vigne sauvage et il y ramassa des coloquintes sauvages, plein son vêtement. Quand il rentra, il les coupa en morceaux dans la marmite du potage, car on ne savait pas (ce que c’était).
40
On servit à manger à ces hommes ; mais dès qu’ils eurent mangé du potage, ils s’écrièrent# : La mort est dans la marmite, homme de Dieu ! Et ils ne purent manger.
41
Élisée dit : Prenez de la farine. Il en jeta dans la marmite et dit : Sers ces gens et qu’ils mangent. Et il n’y avait plus rien de mauvais dans la marmite.
Élisée nourrit cent personnes
42
Un homme arriva de Baal-Chalicha. Il apportait du pain des prémices à l’homme de Dieu, vingt pains d’orge, et du blé nouveau dans son sac. Élisée dit : Donne à ces gens, et qu’ils mangent.
43
Son assistant répondit : Comment pourrais-je en donner à cent personnes ? Mais Élisée dit : Donne à ces gens, et qu’ils mangent ; car ainsi parle l’Éternel : On mangera et on en aura de reste.
44
Il mit alors (les pains) devant eux ; ils mangèrent et en eurent de reste, selon la parole de l’Éternel.

Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets to Elisha, saying, "Your servant my husband is dead. You know that your servant feared Yahweh. Now the creditor has come to take for himself my two children to be slaves."
2
Elisha said to her, "What shall I do for you? Tell me: what do you have in the house?" She said, "Your handmaid has nothing in the house, except a pot of oil."
3
Then he said, "Go, borrow containers from of all your neighbors, even empty containers. Don't borrow just a few.
4
You shall go in, and shut the door on you and on your sons, and pour out into all those containers; and you shall set aside that which is full."
5
So she went from him, and shut the door on her and on her sons; they brought the containers to her, and she poured out.
6
It happened, when the containers were full, that she said to her son, "Bring me another container." He said to her, "There isn't another container." The oil stopped flowing.
7
Then she came and told the man of God. He said, "Go, sell the oil, and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest."

It fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where there was a prominent woman; and she persuaded him to eat bread. So it was, that as often as he passed by, he turned in there to eat bread.
9
She said to her husband, "See now, I perceive that this is a holy man of God, that passes by us continually.
10
Please let us make a little room on the wall. Let us set for him there a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp stand. It shall be, when he comes to us, that he shall turn in there."
11
One day he came there, and he turned into the room and lay there.
12
He said to Gehazi his servant, "Call this Shunammite." When he had called her, she stood before him.
13
He said to him, "Say now to her, 'Behold, you have cared for us with all this care. What is to be done for you? Would you like to be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the army?'" She answered, "I dwell among my own people."
14
He said, "What then is to be done for her?" Gehazi answered, "Most certainly she has no son, and her husband is old."
15
He said, "Call her." When he had called her, she stood in the door.
16
He said, "At this season, when the time comes around, you will embrace a son." She said, "No, my lord, you man of God, do not lie to your handmaid."
17
The woman conceived, and bore a son at that season, when the time came around, as Elisha had said to her.

When the child was grown, it happened one day that he went out to his father to the reapers.
19
He said to his father, "My head! My head!" He said to his servant, "Carry him to his mother."
20
When he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees until noon, and then died.
21
She went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door on him, and went out.
22
She called to her husband, and said, "Please send me one of the servants, and one of the donkeys, that I may run to the man of God, and come again."
23
He said, "Why would you want go to him today? It is neither new moon nor Sabbath." She said, "It's alright."
24
Then she saddled a donkey, and said to her servant, "Drive, and go forward! Don't slow down for me, unless I ask you to."
25
So she went, and came to the man of God to Mount Carmel. It happened, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, "Behold, there is the Shunammite.
26
Please run now to meet her, and ask her, 'Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?'" She answered, "It is well."
27
When she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught hold of his feet. Gehazi came near to thrust her away; but the man of God said, "Leave her alone; for her soul is troubled within her; and Yahweh has hidden it from me, and has not told me."
28
Then she said, "Did I desire a son of my lord? Didn't I say, Do not deceive me?"
29
Then he said to Gehazi, "Tuck your cloak into your belt, take my staff in your hand, and go your way. If you meet any man, don't greet him; and if anyone greets you, don't answer him again. Then lay my staff on the face of the child."
30
The mother of the child said, "As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you." He arose, and followed her.
31
Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff on the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Therefore he returned to meet him, and told him, saying, "The child has not awakened."
32
When Elisha had come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid on his bed.
33
He went in therefore, and shut the door on them both, and prayed to Yahweh.
34
He went up, and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, and his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands. He stretched himself on him; and the flesh of the child grew warm.
35
Then he returned, and walked in the house once back and forth; and went up, and stretched himself on him. Then the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.
36
He called Gehazi, and said, "Call this Shunammite!" So he called her. When she had come in to him, he said, "Take up your son."
37
Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground; and she took up her son, and went out.

Elisha came again to Gilgal. There was a famine in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him; and he said to his servant, "Set on the great pot, and boil stew for the sons of the prophets."
39
One went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered of it wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of stew; for they didn't recognize them.
40
So they poured out for the men to eat. It happened, as they were eating of the stew, that they cried out, and said, "Man of God, there is death in the pot!" They could not eat of it.
41
But he said, "Then bring meal." He cast it into the pot; and he said, "Pour out for the people, that they may eat." There was no harm in the pot.

A man from Baal Shalishah came, and brought the man of God bread of the first fruits, twenty loaves of barley, and fresh ears of grain in his sack. He said, "Give to the people, that they may eat."
43
His servant said, "What, should I set this before a hundred men?" But he said, "Give the people, that they may eat; for thus says Yahweh, 'They will eat, and will have some left over.'"
44
So he set it before them, and they ate, and left some of it, according to the word of Yahweh.
