Larmes que répandait Timothée, probablement en prenant congé de Paul, qu'il aimait comme un père, (comparez Actes 20.37,38 ; 21.13) ou en d'autres occasions, dans les tristesses de son ministère et de sa vie.

Comparer Romains 1.10-12 ; Philippiens 1.8. Quel amour mutuel entre ces deux hommes dénotent ces larmes du disciple, ce désir ardent de Paul de le revoir, cette joie qu'il s'en promet !
