World English Bible Give diligence to present yourself approved by God, a workman who doesn't need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth.

La bible annotée Commentaire de Matthew Henry
Littéralement : "Ouvrier qui n'a aucun sujet de honte (ou de confusion), et qui coupe droitement la Parole de la vérité."

Les uns pensent, avec Calvin, que cette expression figurée fait allusion à un père de famille, qui coupe et distribue à chacun des siens la part de nourriture qui lui convient.

D'autres la rapprochent de cette locution très usitée chez les Grecs : couper droit son chemin, pour dire : choisir la bonne route et y persévérer courageusement, au travers de tous les obstacles.

Le chemin, ici, c'est la Parole de la vérité ; Timothée l'a choisi ; il n'a plus qu'à y marcher sans dévier, comme un voyageur qui sait où le conduit le chemin qu'il suit.
