Le tribun militaire prend des précautions telles, que non seulement Paul sera conduit à Césarée sain et sauf (grec sauvé au travers), mais que toute révolte qui se produirait parmi les Juifs serait aussitôt réprimée.

Il appelle deux des centeniers (grec), certains deux des centeniers, expression qui désigne ces deux officiers comme jouissant de la confiance particulière de leur chef.

Outre les deux cents soldats d'infanterie et soixante-dix de cavalerie, il met sur pied deux cents hommes de troupes légères, dont il est difficile de déterminer l'arme, parce que le mot dont se sert Luc est inconnu dans le Nouveau Testament et dans la littérature grecque.

Il fallait encore des montures pour le prisonnier et ceux à la garde desquels il était confié.

Tout ce convoi devait être prêt à partir dès la troisième heure de la nuit, c'est-à-dire neuf heures du soir.

- Paul devait être livré au gouverneur Antonius Félix, affranchi de la famille impériale et frère de Pallas, le favori de Claude. Il fut procurateur de Judée, probablement de 52 à 60.

Tacite (Hist. V, 9) nous l'a fait connaître en ces termes : "Il exerça un pouvoir royal avec l'âme d'un esclave, en se livrant à toute sorte de cruautés et de débauches." (Voir Actes 24.26,27)

Comparer le tableau du Gouvernement de Félix, et de son émule Cumanus, dans Tacite, Annales XII, 54. D'après Josèphe (Antiq., XX, 6 ; Guerre, II, 12), Félix fut le successeur de Cumanus.

      27 But when two years were fulfilled, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, and desiring to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in bonds.
