Le discours prophétique passe du futur de la prédiction (versets 7,8) au temps du récit historique : le voyant contemple ces faits comme s'ils étaient déjà accomplis.

Les ennemis montèrent sur l'étendue de la terre (Habakuk 1.6) ils viennent de loin environner le camp des saints et la cité bien-aimée.

Suivant les uns, ces deux termes désignent deux emplacements distincts ; suivant les autres, la cité bien aimée, qui ne peut être que Jérusalem, serait désignée comme le camp des saints.

Les saints sont probablement identiques aux élus qui ont part au règne de mille ans. Pour ceux qui placent ce règne dans le ciel, les saints représentent l'Église des derniers temps. La tentative de Satan est arrêtée avant que la lutte ait été engagée.

Un feu descendit du ciel (comparez Ezéchiel 39.6) et dévora les ennemis. Plusieurs majuscules ajoutent : d'auprès de Dieu, avant ou après du ciel.
