World English Bible If there arise in the midst of you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and he give you a sign or a wonder,

Un prophète ou un songeur. Vraie ou fausse, la prophétie se produisait soit sous la forme d'un discours animé d'un souffle puissant, soit comme le récit d'une vision nocturne ayant un sens prophétique.

Un signe : un fait naturel annoncé à l'avance.
Un prodige : un fait ayant le caractère réel ou faux d'un phénomène surnaturel.

Les idolâtres doivent être mis à mort. (Deutéronome 13:1-5)
Aucune relation ne doit avoir lieu avec les idolâtres. (Deutéronome 13:6-11)

Moïse avait précédemment prévenu les Israélites du danger qui pouvait émaner des Cananéens. Le patriarche averti maintenant le peuple du péril inhérent à l'idolâtrie.

En ce qui nous concerne, il est vital de bien connaître les vérités et les commandements de la Parole : nous pouvons, en effet, être confrontés à diverses tentations malsaines, qui peuvent nous induire en erreur, tout en nous faisant croire, que nous sommes dans la vérité. Mise à part la Parole de Dieu, rien ne peut nous prévenir du danger inhérent à l'idolâtrie.

Rejeter cette dernière, c'est prouver notre profonde et sincère affection envers Dieu. Toute tentative idolâtre ne peut que nous faire abandonner le Seigneur, et nous entraîner vers d'autres dieux.
