Deutéronome 31.16

Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Voici, tu t'en vas dormir avec tes pères, et ce peuple se lèvera, et paillardera après les dieux des étrangers qui sont au pays où il va, pour être parmi eux, et il m'abandonnera, et enfreindra mon alliance que j'ai traitée avec lui.

16 à 21 Pour prévenir chez Josué toute déception, Dieu annonce en ce moment à Moïse l'infidélité et les châtiments futurs du peuple et lui ordonne de composer un cantique qui ne permettra pas à Israël d'alléguer son ignorance du sort qui l'attendait. Mais si l'installation de Josué accompagne cet ordre, c'est la preuve que l'œuvre divine ne s'en accomplira pas moins par son moyen ; comparez Josué 24.19-20, ou nous voyons que les dernières paroles adressées au peuple par Josué furent comme un écho de la communication divine qu'il avait reçue au jour de son installation.
