3 à 21 Les Israélites délivrés de l'oppression entonnent un chant pour célébrer la ruine de Babel. Le chant se compose de cinq strophes ; il décrit la joie universelle qui accueille la chute de l'oppresseur, puis l'état humiliant auquel il est réduit. Ce morceau, qui dans la bouche d'Israël est un chant triomphal, appartient en même temps (au point de vue de Babel) à la catégorie des chants de deuil ou complaintes (comparez en effet les versets 4 et 12 avec 2Samuel 1.19,25,27 ; Lamentations 1.4 ; Ezéchiel 26.17).
