Depuis un instant. Quatre-vingts ans sont peu de chose dans la vie d'un peuple. Pas plus tôt Dieu nous a témoigné sa pitié, que nous provoquons de nouveau sa colère.

Un clou dans le lieu de sa sainteté. Le lieu de la sainteté divine, c'est Jérusalem. Le clou qui y est planté, c'est le peuple nouveau établi à Jérusalem, auquel peuvent se rattacher, comme à un point d'appui solide, tous les exilés qui reviendront encore du pays de leur dispersion. Voyez, à propos d'un individu qui est la force et la gloire de sa famille, la même image dans Esaïe 22.23-24. On a donné de cette expression figurée beaucoup d'autres explications.

Afin que notre Dieu éclairât nos yeux : tandis que pendant longtemps nous avons été plongés dans la nuit du malheur.
