Jacques 4.17

εἰδότι οὖν καλὸν ποιεῖν καὶ μὴ ποιοῦντι, ἁμαρτία αὐτῷ ἐστιν.
Celui qui sait faire le bien et ne le fait pas, se rend coupable d’un péché.

On dirait que l'auteur veut prévenir par ces derniers mots une autre objection de l'orgueil : "Nous savons bien toutes ces choses !" Et en effet, ce sont là des vérités que l'expérience de la vie suffit à enseigner à tout homme.

Oui, répond Jacques, le savoir n'est pas difficile, mais ce savoir même vous rend d'autant plus coupables, constitue pour vous un péché de plus, si vous ne mettez pas ces vérités en pratique. (Comparer Luc 12.47,48)
