Job 27.21

Le vent d’orient l’emporte et le fait disparaître, il l’arrache à son lieu.
le vent d'est le soulève et il s'en va, il est violemment arraché de l’endroit qu’il occupait.

Le vent d'Orient, auquel on donne aussi le nom de Simoun : vent empoisonné. La mort terrible et subite du méchant est comparée à celle dont on est frappé quand on a le malheur d'être atteint par ses redoutables rafales. L'effet du simoun, dit Niebuhr, Voyage en Arabie, II, page 340, est d'étouffer toute créature vivante qui se trouve dans la sphère de son action et de corrompre en peu de temps les cadavres des morts. L'unique moyen de se préserver de ses funestes effets, c'est de se jeter le visage en terre et de laisser passer ce tourbillon d'exhalaisons mortelles, qui se tient toujours à une certaine hauteur dans l'atmosphère.
