En effet, les Madianites avaient joué un rôle important dans l'histoire des malheurs d'Israël (Nombres 22.2,9 ; 24.17 ; Juges 3.12), et il serait étonnant qu'ils manquassent dans celle récapitulation. Cependant il faut remarquer que Moab, qu'on s'attendrait à trouver ici, d'après chapitre 3, n'est pas non plus mentionné.
