En offrande balancée. Voir le sens de ce rite Lévitique 7.29-30, note. Il signifie ici que les Lévites sont une offrande que le peuple présente à l'Eternel et que l'Eternel rend au peuple pour qu'ils soient au service de celui-ci dans les actes du culte (3.7). Nous ne savons comment ce balancement était exécuté quand il s'agissait d'une tribu, et non plus simplement d'une portion de victime. Peut-être le souverain sacrificateur s'est-il borné à faire de la main le signe du balancement sur les troupes des Lévites qui se présentaient successivement.

      39 All who were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron numbered at the commandment of Yahweh, by their families, all the males from a month old and upward, were twenty-two thousand.
      40 Yahweh said to Moses, "Number all the firstborn males of the children of Israel from a month old and upward, and take the number of their names.
      41 You shall take the Levites for me (I am Yahweh) instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel; and the livestock of the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the livestock of the children of Israel."
      42 Moses numbered, as Yahweh commanded him, all the firstborn among the children of Israel.
      43 All the firstborn males according to the number of names, from a month old and upward, of those who were numbered of them, were twenty-two thousand two hundred seventy-three.

      20 and the priest shall wave them for a wave offering before Yahweh. This is holy for the priest, together with the breast that is waved and the thigh that is offered. After that the Nazirite may drink wine.

      11 and Aaron shall offer the Levites before Yahweh for a wave offering, on the behalf of the children of Israel, that it may be theirs to do the service of Yahweh.
