World English Bible You shall do this to them, to cleanse them: sprinkle the water of cleansing on them, let them shave their whole bodies with a razor, and let them wash their clothes, and cleanse themselves.

D'eau qui purifie.... littéralement : d'eau pour le péché, comme on dit sacrifice pour le péché ; cette expression ne se retrouve pas ailleurs. Il a été question d'eau sainte (5.17) ; le chapitre 19 parlera de l'eau de purification ; nous ne savons ce qui faisait la spécialité de l'eau pour le péché. On a supposé que c'était de l'eau ou l'on avait jeté de la cendre provenant d'une victime pour le péché.

Le rasoir. Tous les poils du corps devront être coupés, mais non rasés, comme pour les lépreux (Lévitique 14.8).

Ils laveront leurs vêtements. Rien de pareil dans la consécration des sacrificateurs (Lévitique 8.6) ; la raison de cette différence est sans doute que les Lévites, n'ayant pas de costume spécial, doivent purifier leurs vêtements ordinaires avant d'entrer en fonctions.
