Philippiens 1.27

27 à 30 Conclusion.

L'apôtre a exprimé (versets 25,26) sa certitude de demeurer en cette vie et de revoir les Philippiens ; il indique maintenant, comme conclusion, la condition à laquelle (seulement) ce revoir pourra être une source de joie et la prolongation de son séjour ici-bas pourra contribuer au progrès du règne de Dieu : une conduite digne de l'Evangile, la fermeté dans l'unité.

- Par un même esprit, les uns entendent l'Esprit de Dieu, source de force et d'union ; les autres, l'esprit des chrétiens, une même tendance, les mêmes principes.

Ce dernier sens paraît plus probable à cause de sa liaison avec cette autre expression : combattant d'une même âme ; ainsi c'est tout l'homme, avec toutes ses facultés, que Paul désire voir engagé énergiquement dans ce combat. Et il souhaite de le voir uni avec ses frères non seulement dans ses principes et ses tendances (l'esprit), mais dans ses sentiments naturels et dans les manifestations de son caractère individuel (l'âme).

- Au lieu de pour la foi, on peut traduire par la foi de l'Evangile ; c'est alors le moyen, au lieu du but.

Ceux qui professent appartenir à Christ, doivent se conduire d’une manière digne des vérités de l'Évangile, se soumettre à Ses préceptes pour dépendre de Ses promesses.

Le terme original « politeuomai », traduit dans ce texte par « conduite », définit en fait l’attitude de citoyens à la recherchent de la bonne renommée, de la sécurité, de la paix et de la prospérité de leur ville.

La foi envers l'Évangile mérite que l'on lutte pour elle ; elle rencontre en fait beaucoup d'opposition, ce qui devrait nous motiver à lutter pour elle.

Un homme peut très bien rester indifférent au péché et aller en enfer ; mais celui qui veut se rendre au ciel, doit réagir contre son iniquité et s’appliquer à acquérir le salut.

On peut rencontrer l’unité de cœur et l’affection parmi les chrétiens, même s’il y a diversité d’opinions sur de nombreux sujets. La foi est un don de Dieu, par le biais de Christ ; la disposition de cœur pour croire provient de Dieu. Nous pouvons estimer que nos souffrances pour Christ, sont un véritable don : sachons leur donner toute leur valeur.

Le salut ne provient pas des épreuves matérielles, ni d’un sentiment de détresse : il vient uniquement de Dieu. La foi et la patience sont de véritables dons du ciel !
