Philippiens 3.19

Leur fin, c’est la perdition ; ils ont pour dieu leur ventre, ils mettent leur gloire dans ce qui fait leur honte, ils ne pensent qu’aux réalités de ce monde.
Ils courent à leur perte, car leur dieu c’est leur ventre, ils sont fiers de ce qui devrait leur faire honte et ils n’ont en tête que les choses de ce monde.

Quiconque n'a pas été affranchi du monde et du péché par la croix de Jésus-Christ, quiconque est ennemi de cette croix, a encore ses pensées et ses affections sur la terre et dans l'esclavage de ses intérêts périssables.

Que les convoitises soient alors élevées, spirituelles, et servent d'aliment à l'orgueil, ou qu'elles rampent sur les objets grossiers des passions charnelles (avoir son ventre pour Dieu désigne d'une manière énergique les plaisirs de la table), le résultat est le même, la perdition. (Comparer Galates 5.21 ; 6.8 ; notes.)
