Réjouissez-vous ! telle était la formule de salutation chez les Grecs.

Mais l'apôtre, en exhortant les chrétiens à la joie, et en leur indiquant par ces mots : dans le Seigneur, la source intarissable de cette joie, donne à la salutation un sens tout nouveau.

Si l'on demande : Comment le fidèle peut-il être toujours joyeux dans un monde où il est entouré de tant de sujets de tristesse, toujours joyeux dans ses rudes combats contre le péché, dont la plus légère atteinte est si propre à le remplir d'une amère douleur ? il n'y a à ces questions qu'une réponse, mais elle est suffisante : Réjouissezvous dans le Seigneur.
