Proverbes 17.26

Punir un innocent n’est pas bien, frapper des gens respectables est injuste.
Il n'est pas bon de punir le juste, et de frapper les nobles à cause de leur droiture.

Aussi. Le juge, après avoir puni le coupable, ne doit pas, cédant à quelque intimidation, se laisser aller à frapper aussi d'une peine moindre, peut-être (amende ou verge, Deutéronome 25.1-3), le juste.

Les hommes nobles. Il s'agit de la noblesse des sentiments.

A cause de leur droiture : qui leur a inspiré des paroles franches, des témoignages courageux. On pourrait traduire aussi : Et de frapper les hommes nobles contre le droit.
