La justice consiste à agir toujours avec désintéressement et équité ; la miséricorde, à éprouver de la sympathie pour nos frères et à rechercher toujours leur vrai bien. La répétition du mot justice dans la seconde clause est emphatique : l'homme qui la poursuit, la trouvera évidemment, mais il trouvera en outre la vie et la gloire qu'il ne recherchait pas (Matthieu 6.33).
