Ne te fatigue pas à acquérir la richesse, n'y applique pas ton intelligence.
Ne travaille point à t'enrichir ; et désiste-toi de la résolution que tu en as prise.

4 et 5 Double distique de deux et trois lignes sur la vanité de la poursuite de la fortune.

Ton intelligence doit porter sur des objets plus dignes d'elle.

Tu portes tes regards sur elle, littéralement : Ton œil volerait-il vers elle ? ce qui indique le regard rapide, furtif.

Car elle se fait des ailes plus rapides encore que tes yeux.
