L'orgueilleux, ébloui par sa fausse grandeur, croit pouvoir se passer de Dieu, mais l'Eternel n'a pas besoin de l'examiner de près, pour sonder son néant. Aussi le laisse-t-il de côté, pour s'approcher des humbles.

Bien que le Seigneur soit haut élevé dans les cieux, Il a de la compassion pour l'humble pécheur ; les hautains, quant à eux, seront bannis, loin de Sa merveilleuse présence.

Les consolations divines sont à même de nous fortifier, même si nous traversons l'épreuve. Et Dieu sauvera son peuple, en sorte que celui-ci soit régénéré par l'Esprit Saint, Celui qui donne la vie et la sainteté. Si nous rendons gloire à Dieu pour Sa Miséricorde, nous en tirerons du réconfort. Cette assurance ne sera pas vaine mais elle nous conduira à la prière. Quelle que soit la valeur de notre bonté, elle ne représente que le résultat de l'œuvre de Dieu en nous, en ce qui concerne le vouloir et le faire. Le Seigneur mènera chaque véritable croyant vers la perfection du salut, et il n'abandonnera jamais ceux qu'Il a créé, en nouveauté de vie, dans le Christ Jésus, en vue de l'accomplissement des bonnes œuvres.
