7 à 9 Pour être le seul que Dieu n'entende pas, il faut que le suppliant soit comme hors l'humanité, et c'est bien ainsi qu'il est envisagé par son peuple. C'est là le thème que développent les chapitres d'Esaïe qui dépeignent, soit la souffrance d'Israël, le vermisseau de Jacob (Esaïe 41.14), soit celle du serviteur de l'Eternel (Esaïe 52.14 ; 53.2-3). Job fait entendre des plaintes semblables (chapitre 30).

Un ver : l'être le plus misérable et le plus dépourvu de moyens de défense, fait, semble-t-il, pour être écrasé. Comparez Job 25.6.
