Car lui l'a fondée sur les mers, et l'a établie sur les fleuves.
Car c’est lui qui l’a fondée sur les mers Et affermie sur les fleuves.
C’est lui qui a fondé la terre sur les mers, qui l’a établie fermement au-dessus des cours d’eau.

Sur les mers. Le psalmiste trouve une preuve permanente de la toute-puissance de Dieu dans le fait que la terre peut subsister inébranlable sur un fondement mouvant. La science actuelle s'exprime autrement, mais le prodige qu'elle nous fait constater, en nous montrant le globe terrestre suspendu dans l'espace, n'est pas moins grand.

Les courants d'eau désignent les courants marins et non les fleuves terrestres.
