Psaumes 4:1-5 Accepter la miséricorde divine est la meilleure des solutions pour notre salut. Celui qui ne demandera pas le bénéfice d'une telle bénédiction en tant que pardon, justification et vie éternelle, périra.

Hélas ! Il y en a tant qui optent pour cette dernière position. Le psalmiste apporte une mise en garde contre le péché. Vénérons la Gloire et la Sainteté divines. Vous avez beaucoup de choses à dire à votre cœur, ne le laissez pas s'endurcir dans le mutisme. Examinez-le vous-mêmes sérieusement ; laissez vos pensées choisir ce qui est bon et attachez-vous à cela.

Considérez vos voies, et avant d'aller vous coucher le soir, examinez en vos âmes et consciences, vos faits et gestes de la journée ; particulièrement ceux qui ont été voués au mal, ceux pour lesquels vous pouvez vous repentir. Quand vous êtes éveillés durant la nuit, méditez les choses de Dieu, et celles qui vous procurent la paix. Il y a des occasions, (par exemple sur un lit d'hôpital), où nous devrions reconsidérer nos voies.

Restez calmes. Quand vous vous êtes posé une question délicate, au sein de votre conscience, soyez sérieux, gardez le silence, attendez la réponse. N'ouvrez pas la bouche pour excuser le péché. Toute votre confiance doit être placée en la Grâce de Dieu qui justifie celui qui se convertit vraiment par la foi : donc, après nous avoir recommandé la recherche de la droiture, le psalmiste s'écrie : « placez votre confiance dans le Seigneur ».
